Ignorant TLM question

I’ve seen pictures and I’ve seen it on TV. Many times when the priest is at the altar, an acolyte or altar boy will lift the edge of the priest’s “fiddleback” chasuble.

What’s the purpose of this? What’s it supposed to represent? :confused:

If it’s the back of the chasuble, that’s for the consecration, so the Priest can lift his arms high at the elevation.

If it’s the sides, it’s generally because the Priest is doing something with his arms (e.g. using a thurible). I don’t know much more about it, though.
