Is it wrong or a sin to ignore people who u feel don’t care or want the best for you? I became friends with this girl who has a lot of issues and complained a lot to where I felt bad and would listen and give her advice. But, overall she is just kind of weird, the way she talks and thinks. I think she’s nice, but does not get happy for people when good things happen to them or if they are happy. I feel bad because i think she just is unhappy, and also because she has seizures, she’s not close with her family, and does not have a job (she has been looking for one for a long time).

I feel like she wants things to not go good for me, because she will say things like “oh that sucks” when i didn’t even tell her anything that I was upset or annoyed about. When i inform her that everything is good, she seems to get annoyed. Also, when I text her to see how she’s doing she will start complaining about an issue she has, and I give her my honest advice and tell her that I am there if she needs to talk. She never says thank you or anything. I don’t take it personal, because maybe that’s just how she is.

A lot of times i don’t feel like texting or talking to her but i do because i feel bad, but is it wrong if i just ignored her? What is the best way to deal with people if you feel they don’t care about you or just use you? I never like ignoring people, but it’s getting to a point where I don’t want to deal with these kind of friends/people at all.

We are not obliged to get close to every person, (the obligation would be to pray for her) and some people we do come in contact with can drag us down, and if you’ve tried your reasonable best to no good effect, then make yourself scarce.

If a person is chronically depressed, there really is nothing much you can do to make it better. You can be kind and patient, and do your best to be positive around them, to give them warmth, to be understanding, but it doesn’t fix anything, it just wears you out but you do it anyway. But why should you if you’re not married to the person or they aren’t family. You’re not, and why would you tie yourself to a girl who is so resolutely negative? Believe me, it’s not something you can fix.

It can be a different matter if the person is family, but that doesn’t make it healthier for one when around someone who tends to see the negative and the bad side, and never feels happy more than for a brief moment. Any single good thing can be torn down and it can make inroads into your own ability to enjoy anything, or to see any positives.
I’m married to a very-long-term depressed person who never finds much happiness in anything for very long, and not very often. It makes life so hard on so many levels. Why tie yourself to such a relationship if not bound to. Pray for her and be pleasant about drifting out of her life, but break the chains that bind you to her, since as you say, she only drags you down.
