I’ve always liked these shelves and am finally thinking of actually getting some. Does anyone here have them? Do you like them or not? They have been around forever so I am assuming they are a good seller…I just want to be sure…so where better than my CAF friends, lol… oh the topics we create…😃

I think a lot of stuff at Ikea is junk. But, these shelves seem pretty solid and nice. They are on par with most shelves you would find in Target, Bed/Bath/Beyond, Home Decorator’s Collection, etc, and they are a little lower priced.

I think they look nice, too, not cheap.

I don’t own them, but I do own a Billy bookcase that I’ve drug around in two moves and it’s still kicking.

If you like a modern look I’d say get them! I would not get them. I was at my sister’s flat for about 6 weeks. She has all Ikea furniture. So I am pooped out with modern looking stuff! 😃

We have them!

I got them when I first moved to Atlanta in May 2006.

They work nice. I really like them. IKEA’s quality has definitely gotten better. All of my furniture except for a few pieces came from there. It has held up MUCH better than my kitchen table from Target.

We’re actually going to IKEA this weekend to buy the kitchen table I really want!

We have them and I like them. My only recommendation is to make sure you either locate the wall studs to attach them to because that will be the strongest way to attach them to the wall OR use wall anchors appropriate for the weight you plan to put on the shelves. If you don’t do this, and then put too much weight on them, they will pull out of the wall, then you will have to spackle and repaint the newly finished wall and endure the taunting of your dh about loading shelves. :o ask me how I know…😛

I don’t have the IKEA versions of these but we have a lot of similar shelves. I don’t know how these particular ones hang, can’t tell from the picture, but sometimes it is HARD to get them to be stable and level. And I wouldn’t put anything really heavy/breakable on them. But they are great for pictures and knickknacks. I live like 10 min from IKEA, it is very dangerous :o

Thanks everyone:)… I have purchased quite a few things from IKEA over the years so know how vastly the quality/construction can vary from item to item. So thanks for the opinions! I just wanted to make sure they weren’t one of the “OMGoodness I would never buy those again and wouldn’t give them to my worst enemy” types of IKEA merchadise, lol.

Basically, you install the metal “frame” (which is a metal bar across the back with metal arms sticking out) securely to the wall (see above 😃 ) you then slip the wooden “shell” over the “frame”. They have a rating on how much it will hold (18-44 lbs) but will depend on how you fasten the silly things to the wall. For the application we were using it for, I should have used different shelves. But they work okay (don’t hold enough weight for me:D ) and look nice (match the other Ikea pieces we have). I’ll post pictures if we can get the play room cleaned up (hahahahahaha!)

Billy’s are great!!! I have a few too:D I was nicely surprised when we bought some doors for the lower half and they actually look nice, not cheap or flimsy.👍

Excellent - because that is what I liked about them - the doors! We don’t have a whole lot to “display” here, just junk that needs to be shut behind a door!

Wow, yeah, I bought LACK shelves in 2001 and still have them 7 moves later (out of 11 different places since 1995). I installed them myself a few times. Don’t recommend that. They are heavy and those drywall screws really tear up your walls. So make sure they’re somewhere you really want them to be!

Don’t know if you can get West Elm up in Canada, but their stuff is comparable, and maybe slightly better construction (ever so slightly).
