On June 1 the state government will begin forcing agencies taking money from the state to give children to homosexual couples. The article linked below shows that Catholic Charities has so far done all it can to follow such state laws, but now it is drawing the line and may go out of the adoption service, though they provide a service that cannot be replaced in a cash-short state. A portent no doubt of things to come. I used to say do not get angry -get prayerful regarding such issues. Still good words perhaps. However it must be fortified with action. As one involved periodically with Pro life I am not unaware of this nescessity. We must give loud voice :okpeople:to our principles via voting, lobbying and public debate. Ahh. I am preaching to the choir -yes? Still… I am sure there is a lot of us who may be a tad lazy in our thinking on these issues. Not unlike those that say with all sincerity that they are ‘pro- choice’ Catholics. That is until -hopefully- they are informed of the ramifications of the perspective. All very astounding and really frustrating. Deeeeeep sigh…

Could Catholic Charoties continue to operate morally if they didn’t take any state money? I’m just wondering…

Its a good question. I would think forgoing government funding would eliminate the moral issue. The difficult question is how to replace the government money.

In several diocese of the US, Catholic Charities decided simply to close their adoption/foster care services. However, for many years Bethany Christian Services was allowed to deny adoption to Catholic couples in Mississippi because the organization did not take government money. Granted, Bethany changed its policy in 2006, but they did so voluntarily and not because they were forced to do so by government requirements.

Good question. Here is another question - ‘Why should we have to operate without state money and still keep our rules/principles?’ The seperation of church and state is being misinterpreted here methinks. Remember the Faith Based Initiative presented by Pres. Bush. Note also: I am inclined to think that we would be better served if ultimately Catholics made the transition to no state contributions. This would allow Catholics to operate in a manner pleasing to God and man. I suspect that Catholic hospitals would attract the talented and dedicated (the very nature of Catholics-yes?) staff. Such a hospital described would attract a clientle that would pay for excelllent services. Ultimately the said type of hospital could eventually finance it’s own charities perhaps.

The state will always try to control the institution that it gives money to. I also dare say that there are those that would use ‘political correctness’ to force any public service offered by a Catholic medical institution (even without any state funds) to provide abortion, birth control etc. This is currently happening already in regard to the ‘good conscience’ issues care providers are facing today. Let us not fool ourselves. It is a type of … war… in which we are involved.

Bold Italics mine.

This type of dynamic you have presented should send chills up a Catholic’s spine. Mostly it should be a call to legal arms.

from article:
If Catholic Charities was to get out of foster care and adoption, ideally, DCFS would transfer the foster child, foster family and the caseworker to a new agency, such as Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, a faith-based agency that will work with same-sex or co-habitating couples.
This is troubling to me. Where’s the Christian unity on this issue?

Yes indeed. As well it should be. This situation, and others like it, IMHO, is not unlike Gandalf the Grey discovering that Saruman the White had turned to Mordor.

If the Romans could be converted via 12 apostles … What can we do?

I think that in order to keep Cstholic principles (which include opposition to same-sex couple households and providing adoption services) they should defnitely stop taking government funding; and appeals for private contributions should go out worldwide to Catholics and to any other faith traditions which support the Catholic position.

Continue to do what you are doing and make them sue you.

Catholics are folding without a fight in these cases. They need to force the hand of the government by quietly not complying.

The problem with the ‘state money’ starts on the fact the the Federal, State and Local governments collect close to 50% of the income of the people. This money can be used to support atheist ideology, homosexual ideology, the ideologies of relatively small minorities, but may not support the ideologies of large majorities, just because those ideologies are called religion. This is serious abuse against the rights of the religious people.

I concur with all the above. I am especially alarmed at how Catholics do in deed ‘cave’ on fighting issues to an unacceptable extent. Let me say that I am appreciative of those that do carry the fight to govt. (pro life workers etc.) Our adversary never sleeps.

I would like to suggest that minimally we all pray at least the three Hail Mary’s for anathema legal issues in terms of our country on a daily basis.

I would like to see at this and other forums a 'one clik button.’ To clarify - there are some issues that all Catholics that are theologically correct agree on -such as abortion issues, same sex marriage and others. I would like to see a dept. at this forum and other like minded forums, that monitors miscellaneous propsed anathema bills and those that we should support. The said dept. would then post at the forum. Also would be included would be the ‘one clik button’ that would then generate a form letter which would echo the support of said Bills/laws of the forum member. After the member submits what personal information is needed to validate the form, the said form would then be sent to the requisite politician/organization. That way for those that do not have time to fight for all issues due to raising children or some such, could easily voice their concerns.

We need to organize somehow and we need to do it quickly and we need to do it in volume. Yes I know I am saying what is already known.
