Anyways, as the maxim goes (first spoken by either Confucius or the famous American philosopher … 50 cent), bring it. I know Christians have a large apologetics warehouse (full of all sorts of illogical arguments you guys think are nifty).

It’s Friday night and while a quarter of Americans in my age group are out getting drunk (and preparing to break the law by driving while intoxicated) I’m at home babbling about nonsense on the internet. I was planning on going to the gym, but got lazy. Maybe tomorrow I’ll do something fun?

Actually, it is the atheist who is full of silly arguments. The funniest thing is this: Atheists seem to devote a lot of energy to protesting something they say doesn’t exist! And they call us irrational!

Well I wouldn’t waste my time saying “God doesn’t exist” and argue it till I’m blue in the face, but I guess the intent of some atheists would be to demolish the faith of others or rather religion altogether (many consider religion a major hindrance to progress, others want a complete restructuring of society, others just want freedom to do whatever they want).

We are the natural checks and balances system that contains religion (and prevents it from dominating society with its mindless #$%^). Imagine a theocratic society full of Jesus-bots:eek:

I see your problem!! You are completely unaware of the contributions of the Church. I am not talking about works of charity that protect the dignity of life, but in terms of science and education.
–The university system of education was an invention of the Church
–Many fields of science were advanced due to religious orders (genetics for one, astronomy for another)
–The Church educates more people than any other institution in the world

How arrogant of you to think that you are more powerful than God. That you with your mindless, irrational drivel think you can bring about an end to the Church? Smarter men than you have tried. I by no means consider myself a philosopher, but your utter lack of knowledge of classical philosophy is staggering. My guess is that for some reason you are mad at God, and your only recourse is to insult those who find joy in serving Him.

ahh yes, the last straw of the Christian argument. I’m abnormal and irrational because I don’t believe in little angels who will come to my rescue, men who acted as a conduit for our all powerful invisible friend and divided oceans, turned rivers into blood, rose from the dead, a woman who conceived a god-man (impregnated by a spirit, and visited by a celestial angel) … bla bla bla.

Sigh. I must use specific examples. Ptolemy was a faithful catholic and was praised by the Church. He suffered no ill repurcussions when he posited the idea of a heliocentric model for the solar system.
The Galileo ordeal has been misrepresented for centuries. There were issues beyond heliocentrism which got him in trouble.
Gregor Mendel (you know, the father of modern genetics) was an Augustinian Monk.
The Church being against science is a myth that has been propegated for centuries, and if you would look closely, has no basis in fact. I hope you are bright enough to recognize Dan Brown’s work as just silliness.

no one denies there were a few notable Catholics in history. But your gross exaggerations are typical of Catholic apologists. Moreover, where the heck did the Dan Brown comment come from? Did I ever mention the guys name once. Of course not, you’re attemp to connect me to his fictional work is a classic straw man.

Oh btw, Ptolemy essentially agreed with geocentrism (with minor modifications) & Galileo was persecuted for advocating heliocentrism; and how do you figure Ptolemy (the astronomer) was Catholic? Can you provide sources (because as far as I can tell little is known about this man’s life).
