I am too, but I no longer go there. I’m interested to hear why he chooses to stick with SSPX even though their relations with Rome are somewhat unusual at the moment

What makes you want to be an SSPXer rather than an FSSPer etc?
Here we go…
Whenever someone talks about the SSPX there’s always one or two that will bring the FSSP to the story, or pose some repetitive questions, like:
Why don’t you go to FSSP, or ICKSP, or diocesan mass, or something else?

I’m sorry that this is an issue for you, but the OP did specify we can ask him “anything”.

I don’t want to derail the thread, but in short, I came to realisation some of its teaching came into conflicts with the Church’s.

Do you know anything about the saints of the Church since the SSPX separation? If so, who are some of your favorites? Would you ever venerate their relics/ask for their intercession/etc.? Or do you not consider them to be true saints?

Also, thank you for this post and for offering to answer questions!!

Actually I believe a lot of the diferences and conflict betwen SSPX and the rest of the Church is happening somewhere in Vatican back offices with scholars and canon lawyers, both of whom would do well to get out more, squabbling over nebulous academic questions that nobody besides themselves really understand. Actually down on the ground and locally I see no signs of there being any conflict or differences. Especially now that Pope Bendeict has said that the Tridentine Mass is a legitimate form of Mass.

As as I can see, there may well once have been a serious problem but it is now 99% resolved.

It’s not just the Mass, from what I believe. They also strongly dispute V2’s statements regarding ecumenism, religious freedom, and other subjects. (afaik)

The SSPX (without a flamewar) Traditional Catholicism
What’s the SSPX’s current canonical status? If that current status is one of separation, what’s holding them back from full communion? Why won’t they join the FSSP or a similar order? (Please, be civil. I’d like to see this thread stay alive for a bit.)
Additionally, if the OP doesent reply promptly, this was a good, informative (relatively) civil thread

Being that you are of a dissident group, I kind of figured you were not a Canon Lawyer. That being said, I would like to ask what the purpose of this thread is? Perhaps an agenda to “convert” Catholics away from the Magesterium? The whole “Novus Ordo” Catholics thing is rather off-putting. I believe those who attend that form of the Mass are correctly referred to as “Catholics who attend a Mass that is in good standing with Rome”…
Let me rephrase my answer, after all the last one was simply removed.
I think that some people who tend to dislike the SSPX and their followers have just arrived.

Yes, the SSPX recognizes the validity of the post-conciliar popes and rejects the sedevacantist thesis.
secondly, I was wondering if the line of apostolic succession has been broken in relation to the Priestly Fraternity of the SSPX.
No, their episcopal ordinations are valid, as Rome recognizes. In addition, Archbishop Lefebvre consecrated them only for the use of the power of orders and not the power of jurisdiction (c. 129), so there is no rival hierarchy.

Is this true also for SSPX priests - that they are ordained for sacraments, but not as pastors? Thus maybe they oversee chapels, not parishes?

The poster offers to answer questions, and gets accused of an “agenda”? That’s rude. And, by the way, the Extraordinary Form of the Mass is also “in good standing with Rome.”

Do you feel discriminated in an unfair way now that this thread is filled with personal offenses to you that would have never stayed unflagged at any other “Ask me anything…” thread?

You don’t know that they are unflagged. I’ve flagged. It looks like some problem posts were removed.

With the expection of one (yet to be processed), do you still see something here needing to be flagged?

I couldn’t think of a better name. I’m affiliated with the Society of St.Pius X.

Have you been to any Ordinary Form masses since finding out they exist ( 😟 )?
Once, yes.
Do you feel like you must maintain a strict separation from the Roman Catholic Church or do you feel free to read, study, and attend if and when you desire to?
Every one acknowledges that we’re part of The RCC, even the conciliar guys!
Since you don’t proclaim to be bitter, I’d imagine there isn’t much stopping you from exploring the source of the separation.
I’ve studied it. I agree with Marcel!

At my Church, It’s about 50/50. It really depends on the area tho.

Not particularly, I just think a lot of people suffer from SSPX-ophobia!
