Hello all - Catholics and Non-Catholics;

I’ve spent the last few months away from the CA forums, because I decided it was time to foray into hostile territory to discuss Catholic issues with our separated brothers and sisters in Christ. I spent most of my on-line apologetics time at a certain Calvinist board (with a name that rhymes with “harm”) discussing various issues with some rather virulent anti-Catholics that haunt the site. My experience was not a positive one, although I have to say that I am stronger in my faith for having spent the time there enduring the personal attacks and low-level apologetic arguments put forth against the teachings of the Catholic faith.

That site is simply TOXIC (not this one - the calvinist one I mentioned above). Not much is accomplished there at all. I would certainly not recommend it to the thin-skinned. Most discussions end in a personal attack of some form or another. And on occasion I was baited into name-calling that I later regretted.

There are a few genuine non-Catholics at the site who are genuine in their efforts to learn the Catholic faith from the Catholic perspective. But, by in large, their few reasonable queries are drowned out by the neanderthal anti-Catholics who still refer to us as “Romanists” and “Papists.” There’s never any real chance to get a dialogue going. So sad.

Anyway, after several months posting at this toxic “harm” site, I’ve decided that, for my own personal well-being, I am going to quit participating at the nominally christian site. It is simply not conducive to real apologetic debate, nor does it foster charitable discussion. So, I’m back at the CAF forum and look forward to engaging in the sort of charitable debates and discussions that were simply lacking at the other site.

So, what are the new hot topics at the CAF non-Catholics forum? 🙂

Peace,
Robert

No topic hot enough to stand out as far as I can tell. Your experience at that site is typical of many sites. I’ve had it happen to me. It isn’t worth the effort.

One issue that is reoccuring to me is our apparent helplessness in confronting on the one hand secularism in North America and Europe and Islam nearly every place else. I would like to read of some victories in Sub Sahara Africa, surely there are some, and in Asia.

My impression is that there have been multiple threadis started just recently on the following three topics:
  • Is the Catholic Church pagan?
  • Why do Catholics worship Mary
  • There is no God.
Pretty typical after-Christmas fare, if you’ve been on these forums for a while. There’s something about Christmas that makes the anti-Catholics come out from under their collective rocks.

Welcome back!

I dont know if you have missed much, but its good that you are here since from time to time there is the occasional poster that pops in to mock the sacred like Mary, and well, come to think of it, just about everything really.

😦

Stay here. Help people here.

🙂

I’ve also noticed several threads relating to:
  1. Catholic Tradition/Early Church Fathers
  2. Purgatory
  3. John MacArthur
  4. Sola Scriptura

Wow, I’m surprised they let you post on that forum (rhymes with “harm”). They booted me off without ever letting me post just because I said I was a Catholic.

Hello Robert:
I’ve had the same experiences at anti-Catholic sites. After three years (!) of beating my head against the wall with them, I’ve also decided that it’s not good for my spiritual welfare. I just got so darn frustrated. When they run out of good arguments, they resort to ad hominem attacks.

I’d rather spend time with my Lord in prayer.

gotta be the story about the JWs coming to the door on NY day and hawking Al Gore’s movie because it confirms all their recent prophesies.

runner up for most entertaining thread, started by a non-Catholic, I don’t know what forum, is Fatima is Satanic.

HI Robert,
I have been in the same situation. I have to tell this kind of experience really makes you look at your own intent of heart as well as being able to call out others intent of heart. The word of Jesus to me does not however, call other folks names. Debate is one thing but total self righteousness is not of God. Anyway welcome back and God bless,
Jon

Hey, welcome back! I’d say the hot topics have been Catholics worship Mary ~ The JW religion is false which have included posts from current JW’s who beg to differ ~ The Christmas Tree is Evil! ~ along with a variety of mass is boring/I don’t want to be Catholic anymore threads.

Jump back in! 🙂

I noticed him on another thread for calling Mary a “work of Satan”

Go figure. …

He is playing the same song, different dance.

The flying spaghetti monster thread seems to be a popular Non-Catholic thread recently although its morphed into a discussion beyond my attention span.

Welcome back! During your absence, we’ve concluded that Jesus was not an only child, that “all have sinned” means “all have sinned”, that the Bishop of Rome is first among equals in the College of Bishops, that Luther and Cranmer have been canonized, that the Canon does not include the Apocrypha and that we are all saved by Grace through Faith unto Good Works. Oh, btw, all of the Catholic posters have been converted to the Anglican Church and this website is now known far and wide as the best in Protestant apologetics. 😉

Oh, and the usual RSV-CE needs corrections, Mass is too “happy-clappy”, get rid of altar girls, etc.

Yes and we are starting a new church called the American Episco-Catholic Church.🙂
I don’t know about those canonizations though, I would think that King Henry VIII would be further up the list than Luther or Cranmer. I object to your canonizations!

Welcome back Robert,
How about Rapture Ready have you been there? I had to take a bit of time off the non-catholic boards as it is tiresome. And it takes quite a bit of time to try and properly respond.

Glad to see you back,
Scylla

Welcome back Robert.
I for one have missed your knowledgeable and thorough defense of the doctrines and teachings of the holy Catholic Church. 🙂

:bigyikes: Thanks for the chuckle. Nice to be back. 🙂

:o Thanks for the compliment.

It sounds like things are still jumpin’ around here. I’m looking forward to jumping back in. Now… to pick a topic. Hmm?
