I went away from these boards for a while,because some people here are mean and tiresome.But now I came back,because in spite of them,the boards are an excellent resource and you can learn a lot from them.But I am going to say this-

1.I will ignore anyone who says something prejudiced or biased against Prodestants or other faiths,because that is a stupid,unfair thing to do.

2.I will ignore anyone who says anything that is unfair.

3.I will ignore anyone who tries to argue with me just because they don’t like me or because they are biased.

4.I will ignore anyone who is rude.

Hello I know what you mean man. Some people here (I will give no names) remind me of self-rightoues pharisees of Christ’s time. While I believe Catholicism speaks the complete truth, I have respect for other faiths. In fact, I have yet to be in a Church as “Godly” as my old Protestant Church. I will not return there cause of their denial of the Eucharis, BUT they were so kind hearted and very family-like. NO Catholic Church I’ve been to has had that.

Not to put our Holy Church down, I love Her Truths. I would just like to find a humble, God-spirited parish like my old one.

Anyway welcome back.

I also recognize this. Parishes are interesting micro-societies and some can be pretty trying. Have faith my friend and remember that your parish needs you to help them become a “humble, God-spirited parish”

… my old Protestant Church … they were so kind hearted and very family-like. NO Catholic Church I’ve been to has had that.

Not to put our Holy Church down, I love Her Truths. I would just like to find a humble, God-spirited parish like my old one.

Protestant Church does have a different atmosphere. People are usually more friendly to each other, lot of them have lunch fellowship after the Sunday service. For many years I felt very lonely in my Catholic Parish. Nobody talked to me or even said “Hi”. Our family attended Mass and went home. I felt like an island.

For long time I did not know how to make the situation better. I was frustrated.
Then I thought, “Instead of waiting for people come to me, why don’t I go to them?”
I started to volunteer and joined different groups. I took the initiative to introduce myself and got to know people. I made efforts to remember their names. Now I am even elected as a Parish Council member.

I believe as the followers of Jesus, we all should take initiative of doing the right thing.
We can make the difference.

Catholics mainly go to Church to worship God hence don’t emphasize the fellowship afterwards. But you and I can change that, little by little.

A journey of thousand miles starts with a single step.

I hear ya about cranks. Not that I don’t lose my grip now and then with anti-Catholics around here who just keep regurgitating the same old worn-out complaints.

As for Catholic parishes being less “fellowshippy” – I think that is because most Protestant churches are not geographically based. People are attracted to them for the preaching, for the activities AND (not least) for the fellowship. So you have a self-selected crew – even with all the vagaries of human foibles in play.

Catholic parishes are assembled largely by geography. So, while a neighborhood might be somewhat homogeneous sociologically, you don’t have people who “find” a parish, but people who are “in” a parish.

Factor in the fact that most Catholic parishes (in the U.S., at least) are much larger (MUCH!) than most Protestant churches – except for the mega-churches, of course. It’s harder to create the kind of fellowship we are accustomed to in our Protestant life.

Where I live they’re combing the four Churches into one main Church. It’s because the attendance has dropped dramatically. Kind of sad.
