It depends on which particular Orthodox Church is involved. Basically, some do, some do not.The Orthodox re-baptize Catholics?

This is a good observation/question. I am not so much of a masochist as to :banghead: on more than one topic at a time so I left it alone. I agree that “initiation” is out of the question since he is already initiated. Some instruction would be good, or some method of establishing his intellectual formation in the Faith. Confession is always good. Then, just make sure the baptismal record is updated with his subsequent Sacraments. For example, WHY are you in RCIA? You have already been chrismated (Confirmed) in the Orthodox Church, which is a VALID sacrament. You are already fully initiated. RCIA is not for you. The only thing you need to do is go to Confession and maybe make a profession of faith.
…
I’d also follow up on why you have been placed in RCIA.
Rebaptize, no, just baptize. The Orthodox re-baptize Catholics?
Is it standard practice for Orthodox to rebaptize Catholics?I was baptized Catholic as a child, and Re-Baptized and chrismated and had our Marriage blessed in the Orthodox Church…
Huh?Rebaptize, no, just baptize.

These days, it can seem everyone gets funneled into the RCIA program…

Just another item to add to the list of Orthodox errors. There is no grace lacking in the Sacraments of the one true Church.See this post forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=8852439&postcount=52
Basil’s first canonical epistle, which was ratified at the synod of Trullo, prescribes that those outside of the Church, should be baptized. He also, however, allows for the possibility that those baptized outside of the Church may be received by Chrismation out of economy (that is to say that the grace of Chrismation makes up for whatever grace was lacking at baptism), if the bishops determine that this method is better. From the Orthodox perspective, there is no true baptism outside of the Orthodox Church, so Catholics may be received by baptism, although some, like the Russians (excluding ROCOR), generally will receive Catholics by Chrismation only. The policy on this varies from bishop to bishop and synod to synod.
A Catholic who marries in the Orthodox Church without a dispensation from form from their Catholic bishop is not in a valid marriage generally speaking.Generally, if you were married in an Orthodox Catholic Church with valid sacraments, your marriage is valid and sacramental. That means you cannot have a convalidation.
RCIA is a catch all for everyone entering the Catholic Church. It is not really practical for a parish volunteers/pastors to offer multiple classes varied on the levels of knowledge (and such) of those entering the Church fully.OMG, people, I seriously question the reading comprehension going on on this thread.

So he was never educated in the Catholic faith. Though he was “re-baptized” and chrismated in the Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church are not identical and there are differences that he must learn.Neither of us were married before, but I was baptized as an infant Catholic…but never attended after that.
What a shame that you find following the prescription of an Ecumenical Council to be an error. The Orthodox would obviously disagree with your assessment.Just another item to add to the list of Orthodox errors. There is no grace lacking in the Sacraments of the one true Church.

Well I suppose we have reached an impasse. The Catholic Church would obviously disagree with your assessment.
Some rebaptize, some don’t. None baptize unless the proselyte wasn’t a baptized Christian in the first place (or was a member of a quasi-Christian organization with invalid baptism, such as JW, LDS, Jesus Name Pentecostals, etc.).Rebaptize, no, just baptize.
Have you heard of Crescens matrimoniorum? This was published by the Sacred Congregation for the Eastern Churches on February 22, 1967 (A.A.S. 59 (1967), p. 166.), is an indult which allows a valid marriage between Catholics and Orthodox without the usual Catholic form of marriage.Hello, and I hope this is the correct forum! I am in the process of converting to Catholicism from Orthodoxy (Wife and kids are Orthodox still though). I was baptized Catholic as a child, and Re-Baptized and chrismated and had our Marriage blessed in the Orthodox Church…
My question is, the Priest at our parish wishes to Convalidate our marriage in the Catholic church after I am received in…I’m not sure though that it is necessary. What can I do in this situation and what should I now?
Any help would be huge for us! Thank you and God Bless![]()
Not true.A Catholic who marries in the Orthodox Church without a dispensation from form from their Catholic bishop is not in a valid marriage generally speaking.
A canonical question on that point:The only question that I have is: was your wife, at any time, Catholic?
