I’m boycotting two of my favorite beers. Why, you ask? Well, because apparently they’re boycotting St. Patrick’s Day parades, because gays are not allowed to march in the parade. Do they even realize that St. Patrick’s Day is Catholic? No more Heineken and Sam Adams for me. Done.

Here’s the news story:

Heineken and Sam Adams boycott St. Patty’s Day parades

EDIT: This thread is not about my taste in beer.
Fortuitous that this comes during Lent!

Unless you drink a ponderous lot … they probably won’t feel the pinch … but I will join you in your boycott (that’s how they work).

Whether now or AFTER Lent … maybe go with a company with pro-life values (in more than one sense). One nominee might be ***this company ***… which will probably do all right in sales during St. Patrick’s Day. Anyway I like THIS ad and its values. Surprising!

I’m looking for some pro-life groups to support through my product choices too. But haven’t found THAT list yet. 😦

Some local pubs stopped carrying the beer, at least for a time. As for the radio DJs (Opie & Anthony), they were kept under contract, just not allowed to broadcast. When the contract expired in 2004, they moved to satellite radio, where they have their own channel.

The appalling stunt made national news when it happened (12 years ago) but it is largely forgotten today.
I’d never even heard of it before today. Appalling.

I’m with you, AllSeasons.

I can’t boycott everything, and I’m certain most companies won’t miss the money I may have spent on their products.

But it’s a matter of conscience to me that as much as I am able, I am a good steward of the money God has provided to me. Because of certain businesses’ financial support of abortion rights, I don’t bank at certain banks, I don’t eat at certain restaurants, I don’t purchase certain products.

I have placed these beers in the same category; I have other choices and will spend my money elsewhere. It’s a very small thing, but to me it’s worth doing.
