I'm considering gambling

Now, now, before you raise the bankruptcy alarm (be it moral or financial), I’m not really considering gambling (as in going to casinos and wasting my cash on roulettes and slot machines). 😛

You see I was thinking of betting on this upcoming boxing match. I believe it’s been put off for now but some people (myself included) are still hoping for it. The thing is, my classmate made a pretty penny betting on this one fighter and he’s going to be in this upcoming fight. Needless to say, I wanted to have a shot at it. I’m not even planning on betting big (probably just PHP 50.00).

Now I don’t even consider this to be a tradtional type of gambling since the outcomes in boxing are based on skill, not chance. Still, I’m interested in what other people think. Am I sinning? Are the odds against me? Am I even betting on the wrong fighter? Let me know.

Right now, this should be the least of your worries. Take care of your other probs. first.
 
chance comes into play too,all it takes is one lucky punch…
my concern would be promoter corruption/fixed fight
 
Go for it, but don’t bet more than you can comfortably afford to loose. Good Luck!!
 
I love to gamble but I hate to lose. Like any other vice, do not let it control your life or have an impact on your life that you may regret.

IF it affects your finances to where you can not meet your obligations or it makes it difficult or harder to meet your obligations then you should not be gambling.

This includes being about to feed or support your family AND to give to the poor and the Church.

IF you can not afford to lose it all then you can not afford to gamble it.
 
There is nothing wrong with gambling, I LOVE going 2 the slots when I have some extra money. Just make sure u take a responsible amount of money, try not 2 play back all of ur winnings, and have fun. It should b something u do 4 fun, not a lifestyle. If u r betting on a game, I would say 2 make sure u know the ppl u r betting with, that way u r sure 2 get ur money, and will be free of violent confrontations.
 
Gambling is not inherently wrong, unless, like drinking, it is abused.

Ask any Catholic pastor who runs Wednesday night Bingo parties at his church hall.
 
I’ve done the lottery once myself. I swore to never do it agian because while some people find it fun, I found it to be a complete waste of my 2 dollars (it was a scratch off game).

Dude, I love boxing. Not into the MMA or UFC, but straight old school boxing is a great sport.

I wouldn’t gamble if I were you. If you really want to waist money, turn it into origami or something.

🤷 ok, I don’t do humor well…give me a break!

The degree of skill or lack of it does not determine if something is gambling or not.
Betting on anything is gambling. Buying a lottery ticket is gambling.

However, gambling per se is not a sin and remember to put your money on Manny Pacquiao!
 
As long as you don’t develop a Michael Jordan or Bill Bennett type of habit, a small wager here or there should be fine.

I cannot speak to Michael Jordan, but IIRC, Bill Bennett did nothing objectively wrong. (If I am mistaken in my recollection, I’ll happily retract) Yes, he lost piles of money. *He could afford to lose piles of money. *Neither he nor his family suffered on account of his losses, except insofar as he allowed himself to be railroaded when this fact came to light.

Here is a book about a guy who use mathematics to figure out how to win consistently at parimutuel betting (which is the type of betting you are contemplating, if you don’t know the lingo).
