I think at the beginning wenn a young men receive a vocation, he follows the Christ with idealism and great energy! Years later as Priest this love becomes lesser, so as our love eachanother also don’t stay the same ! If a priest does not work on his relationship to the Christ by fasten and praying a lot, and also by forgotten to put his vocation below the protection of his mother the Virgin Maria, he becomes an easy victim from Satan who looks as a lion to all the undecided Souls to kill them ! The Priest who sin in the general sexual form and specially the pedophilic priests azre, this is my opinion, not enough understained from the people which had more and more must pray for him, also before he failed, ansd so we are partielly responsible that they failed ! Because also when they are vocated by Christ, they are not automatically protected against the intelligence of Satan! We have tio pray so much as possible for all the priests and not to juge …this would be to easy . The first who never sin take the first stone to kill them 🤷

Being a cradle Catholic; I’ve been taught that the priesthood is a calling from God. Why then are there so many pedophile priests? I don’t believe God would call a pedophile to the priesthood. Please enlighten me.
Judas too was part of the original twelve apostles. And, to be honest, there aren’t “so many” pedophile priests. According to the report by the John Jay Institute, the problem is not pedophilia in the priesthood but homosexuality. The vast majority of victims were post-pubescent adolescents.

Why did the priest scandals happen?
We all have heard stories about policemen, doctors, teachers, counselors, and priests that have betrayed a sacred trust. These individuals represent vocations we look to for guidance, hope, and help. We want to be able to trust them. But, when one of these people violates our trust, it seems much worse and even harder to comprehend, than when other people in society fail. Never-the-less, it doesn’t mean that we should abandon all respect for law enforcement, health care, education, or the church because people who work in those professions and vocations fail to live as Christ calls them to live. After all, the vast majority of people in those vocations, serve in a heroic and exemplary manner.

In Matthew 13:24-30 Jesus Christ described His Church, the Kingdom of Heaven, as being a “field of wheat and weeds,” showing that there would be good and bad, saints and sinners, and everyone in between, in the Church until the day when He returned to judge the nations. This means that, sadly, there will be members of His Church — including priests and bishops — who are notorious sinners. We can see this sad reality even at the very beginning of the Church in the person of the Apostle Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Christ to His enemies (Matthew 26:16-23 ; Luke 22:47-49), and Simon Peter, who denied the Lord three times (Matthew 26:34, 75).

Notice that even Christ’s own hand-picked followers committed scandalous wickedness! Even so, this did not negate or disprove the truth that Christ transmitted to the world through His Apostles (Mark 16:15). As Christ promised, in spite of the weakness and sinfulness — indeed, the scandal — caused by priest and other Catholics, “the gates of hell will not prevail against” the Church.

Also there are also scandals among noncatholics as well Please visit the web reformation.com/.

Priests are held to a different standard, especially when they use the very mechanisms of their (Church’s) own rules, such as using the seal of confession or threatening their victims with sin if they were to tell anyone, to quiet their prey. That’s not just sex abuse but a clear abuse of moral and spiritual direction. And then to have their superiors/bishops cover it up and let the wrongful deed go unpunished when discovered, really compounds the problems for the Church. Where is the Magisterium of the Church in all this and how are they obedient to Christ? Hiding behind the laws of the sovereignty of the Vatican? Is this what Christ asked them to do to spread the word of God?

I admit that I was not unaware that Our Lord specifically selected a pedophile to be part of his personal entourage. But what do I know?
i always believe that the Lord will find good even in the sins that are committed. perhaps this scandal is a wakeup call for the Catholic Church as a whole to realize a growing problem. i’m sure in the end there is some good that will come out of this and will help us strengthen the Church

don’t think that only the Apostles are called. all who receive Holy Orders are called. i wasn’t referring to one of the Apostles being a pedophile, but the priests today who are called and yet fall into the temptation of pedophilia
Jesus knew that among his twelve hand-picked apostles was a devil, who would betray him. At the Last Supper, Our Lord reveals that Judas will be the one who betrays him. Judas did not lure Jesus into the Garden and then ambush him there. Jesus expects the betrayal and arrest, does not personally resist, and instructed his security detail to stand down.

If Judas had lost his nerve for betrayal - and instead, initiated the attack on the Sanhedrin’s forces - would Christ have been grateful for Judas’ loyalty or angered that he derailed the salvation of mankind?

Certainly, Judas had no duty to betray Christ. Or did he? Was he called to play this role? If so, by whom? The Sanhedrin? Satan? Pilate? Freemasons? SSPX? Christ?

Just askin’.
i was thinking that too. but the role of Judas makes a lot of people think of predetermination, which the Church teaches against. i’m thinking that all the Apostles have flaws, its possible that any one of them could betray Jesus. i’m thinking of Thomas, who doubted the resurrection even after all the other Apostles testified to it. Matthew was a tax collector and could have been lured by the money. and so on. its just that, looking back at history, it was Judas who acted on his lack of faith.

That might depend on which report you read; the most recent one I have seen has a few of the people behind the report trying to double speak and spin their way out of that position.

The statistics I hav seen put the number of sexual abuser priests at somewhere between 1+% and 3%. Any are far too many, but at least statistically one can have some perspective.

The better question might be, why do we have priests who have a clear homosexual orientation, and what is the Church doing aobut the priests (and bishops) who have been sexually active with same sex adult partners? At least one bishop ahs resigned when he was outed, and others have been at least implicated. I lost one pastor to AIDS and that didn’t come from a needle.

I kind of have my doubts that ordaining homosexually oriented priests is something that started, oh, say about 50 years ago.

If a young man is unsure of his sexual identity - or is sure, and it is homosexual in orientation, where better to hide his orientation than in the priesthood? He is no longer subject to quetions about why he has not married, why he doesn’t have a girl friend; he is now in an organization that has him publicly wearing lace; he has the organization that has lead the way in many points of history in art - painting, sculpture, music etc. - he is in an organization that encourages intellectualism; and he is put on a pedestal by scads of people. What is there not to like about such a sheltering position? Why would one not seek it out? homosexual orientation does not mean that one can have no faith. Nor does it mean that one is going to be sexually active.

I have never seen any study that indicates how manhy priests have a homosexual orientation. I have seen estimates from 20% to 80%, none substantiated.

Jesus called Judas.

How do you deal with that reality?
It’s the same thing. People have free will.
Jesus calling Judas was part of “God’s Plan”.
It wasn’t a mistake or something that shouldn’t have been done.
The One Who Knows it All, Knows what He’s doing…

With all due respect, I don’t agree with this example.

God Bless,
Marcus.
