I just want to share something with all of you that happened to me the past couple of days. I was married before with two stepchildren and ten years ago I got divorced. My step son and I got along great and we kept in touch. I never really grasped how important I was in his life growing up and to my own fault I wasn’t trying to keep contact with him over the years. I have changed a lot since my conversion back to my Catholic roots in the past year. I recently contacted my ex wife to get his contact info, she told me he has been asking a lot about me and yesterday we talked on the phone. I have not seen him since 2006 just before my father died. We had a great conversation and he told me it was so great to hear from me and I was like his real Dad when he grew up and he thought of me in that way. My heart just melted hearing this and I told him I consider him like my son. I told him how sorry I was for being so neglectful. He is 25 now and such a great kid and has beaten addiction in his life and is doing great. He lives very far from me but we vowed to keep in touch and not let this happen again. I don’t have any children of my own but I’m proud to call this man my only son.

My step daughter and I had a rocky relationship at best and I’m sure she doesn’t hate me but probably feels a little indifferent towards me. I just put out the word that I would love to see her again and I want to try and develop a relationship with her. I want to take it slow with her but I hope to see her soon and pray for them both on my rosary. Their real dad pretty much ignores them still from what I hear. I just wanted to share this story with you all. I feel so good about my stepson and how lucky I am to have a great kid like this in my life. I feel real bad for not acting on this sonner but its never to late.

I think that’s an awesome story…nice way to start my day 😉

take it slow w/your stepdaugther…a lot of her anger and resentment probably has more to do w/ her biological father’s inactivity in her life. I had a step-father growing up and it was awkward many times, but I have always respected the fact that he raised 5 of his own b/f marrying my mom and raising my sibling and me. Step-parents have a verrry difficult role.
God bless you for reaching out and getting back in touch w/your step son. 🙂

This brought tears to my eyes reading it.From what you say your stepson loves you very much and looks on you as his father how humbled you must have felt when he told you how he felt about you being in his life when he was younger. Enjoy your future relationship with him you are very lucky to have a second chance and i can see from what you have written you feel blessed, as for your stepdaughter she probably feels she has been let down twice once by her real dad and then by you. You say you had a rocky relationship with her maybe she was testing you and in her mind you failed the test when you divorced her mum . I am sure when you meet up with her you will be able to make things right with her and you will go on to have a good relationship with her aswell. Good luck.👍

That’s awesome!!! 👍

Don’t get discouraged if your step daughter doesn’t come around immediately. Keep saying those rosaries and when you keep in touch with your step son after a while she might see things a wee bit differently.

Congratulations!

God Bless,
Snert:)

Congratulations and GOD bless! Men like you are hard to find and these children are very lucky to have you in their lives, like you are lucky to have them!

Thank you everybody with your great replies. I think a lot of my stepdaughters issues stem from her real dads lack of attention. She pretty much rejected me from the start and things really never got better. She got into a lot of trouble and it was tough sometimes but I still love her to pieces and feel she will come around soon. I might add that these two are young adults now my stepson is 25 and the stepdaughter is 27 with a baby too. Thanks one and all. I just wanted to share this with someone.

*Hi again, John;

I wanted to offer this story up to give you hope. I wasn’t raised by my bio parents. They died by the time I turned 10, and my sister and her husband raised me. My then BIL (they have since divorced) was not kind to me at all. Called me names, really, I felt like a burden to the man. Now, your situation is completely different, but I just want to share with you, that I have forgiven him, and he and I talk more now, than we ever did when I was growing up. Now, that solely comes from my faith. If I were not devoutly into my faith, I would totally have written him off, personally. He doesn’t add or subtract from my life, but we are taught to forgive as Christians, and so I did what Christ asked, and I’m glad I did. So, there is great hope for you and your step dd. I think she will come around, give her time and space. Maybe drop her little notes now and then, remember birthdays…etc…God has a way of making something great out of just about any situation.

I will pray for you both. God bless! :)*

Thanks for sharing that with me Whatevergirl. That does give me great hope. I used to think “so what” if she don’t talk to me but with my renewed faith I now care about her more than ever and I hope she does come around sometime. I think she will sooner or later. I’d love to help her out, she is a single mother.
