Well, i don’t know how to start this, but here goes…
I get scared very easily, and some of us were talking today about the “ghosts” we’ve experienced, so it may just be that I’m bothered by that.
However, lately I keep ‘seeing’ things behind me or in a corner. Just dark spots or areas. I’m afraid of certain places and to go to sleep, but at the same time I’m tired and I want to sleep.
I’m constantly scared and worried about something ((such as a demon)) appearing. I’m worried my angel isn’t going to protect me or isn’t allowed too.
I’m literally sick to my stomach, worried, paranoid…
Any advise or prayers would be much appreciated! :]
GOD bless~!

((sorry if this is hard to understand, just ask and i’ll try clarify what’s needed))

Sounds like you are having an occasional anxiety attack. First of all, take a deep breath. You are not going crazy…

Secondly…turn a light on, dispel those shadows.

Thirdly, make yourself some warm milk or whatever calms you
and then begin to say a mantra prayer…

Like the Rosary…
or the Divine Mercy Chaplet…
The constant rhythm and placing yourself in the trustful hands of the one who loves you…Jesus and His loving Mother…should lull you to peaceful rest.

An occasional anxiety can happen…and you are not alone at all. Trust that you are in the good hands of a Loving Father and He will send a army of angels to protect you…all you need to do is ask. Also tomorrow, if you can, go to confession, speak with the confessor…talking to mine is like talking directly to the Holy Spirit. You can do it.

I was you about five years ago…now I rest peacefully, knowing that whatever problem I could not handle today…I am giving it to God, after all, He’ll be up all night anyway.

Peace be with you, Cranberi

Use holy water around your home.

Pray this:
Prayer to St. Michael Archangel

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us on the day of battle; protect us against the snares, wickedness and temptations of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O! Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God thrust down into hell satan and all evil spirits that prowl this world seeking the ruination of souls."

and this:

The Chaplet of St. Michael the Archangel

O God, come to my assistance.
O Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, etc.

[Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys after each of the following nine salutations in honor of the nine Choirs of Angels]
  1. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Seraphim may the Lord make us worthy to burn with the fire of perfect charity. Amen.
  2. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Cherubim may the Lord grant us the grace to leave the ways of sin and run in the paths of Christian perfection. Amen.
  3. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Thrones may the Lord infuse into our hearts a true and sincere spirit of humility. Amen.
  4. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Dominions may the Lord give us grace to govern our senses and overcome any unruly passions. Amen.
  5. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Powers may the Lord protect our souls against the snares and temptations of the devil. Amen.
  6. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Virtues may the Lord preserve us from evil and falling into temptation. Amen.
  7. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Principalities may God fill our souls with a true spirit of obedience. Amen.
  8. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Archangels may the Lord give us perseverance in faith and in all good works in order that we may attain the glory of Heaven. Amen.
  9. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Angels may the Lord grant us to be protected by them in this mortal life and conducted in the life to come to Heaven. Amen.
Say one Our Father in honor of each of the following leading Angels:
St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael and our Guardian Angel.

Concluding prayers:

O glorious prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor, you who shine with excellence and superhuman virtue deliver us from all evil, who turn to you with confidence and enable us by your gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of His promises.

Almighty and Everlasting God, Who, by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, has appointed the most glorious Archangel St. Michael Prince of Your Church, make us worthy, we ask You, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into Your Presence. This we ask through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.

I’m praying them for you. I also recommend the use of Blessed Salt.
newadvent.org/cathen/13403b.htm

I was looking for the article on blessed salt when I found this:
spiritdaily.org/Quickhive%20articles/thurstonpoltergeist.htm
Your Guardian Angel has the power of God behind him. Do not doubt that he will come to your aid and defend you from evil. Also, demons and spirits really hate the name of Michael Archangel, it fills them with fear, especially when you call on him to help you.
Above all, call on the Name of Jesus, whose victory over death banished satan and remind yourself that you are covered in the Precious Blood. Even a baby Christian can put the devil to flight.

Lastly, I suggest that you go to confession and discuss this problem with your priest.

If the devil himself should manifest before you you have nothing to fear. You are in Jesus.

Fear is of the devil, he likes to stir up fear in men’s hearts because if they fear then he can make a little chink in their armour and once evil cuts a chink in our armour by using fear it then attempts to slowly chip away at our relationship with God.

You have nothing to fear at all. Fear is not of God.

If there is one thing I have learnt it is this, direct the mind from the evil imp even if he comes to you in some way pay him no attention he is severely bound by God and cannot harm you unless you allow him to. God will sometimes allow evil to manifest but that is extremely rare as in the case of St Padre Pio and God did not leave St Padre Pio alone to work against this evil, God was with St Padre Pio every step of the Way.

When a person like you is striving to be close to Jesus and that means growing in holiness evil will attempt to tamper with your course and God allows this to deepen your trust in God.

You trust in Jesus, nothing is going to happen.

Go and see a Priest and explain to him everything and ask him to come and bless your home. Don’t allow your imagination to run riot, check yourself and do not be afraid.

Mighty is the power of the Cross, Jesus did not suffer, die and rise again for men to be afraid of that evil old imp. Wear a Crucifix and make the Sign of the Cross often. Don’t have conversations about evil and don’t watch silly films about evil, keep the mind on good things, dwell on goodness and don’t dwell on evil.

You have nothing to worry about and nothing to fear. You are not insane. Go to sleep Jesus is with you at all times and your Guardian Angel keeps watch over you even as you sleep. Sleep you will feel much better. Pray constantly and don’t be afraid.🙂

Jesus is always with you.

Praying is great. Besides that, don’t exclude medical reason - see a doctor (sorry I can’t advice this much because it might violate the forums’ rules)

I was in the same position just a couple of years ago. What worked for me was to say a prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, and to repeat the Hail Mary. I also would keep my blessed rosary with me all the time. I don’t think it magically made the “shadows” disappear, but it did help me to feel less frightened by them.

It’s easy to say “don’t be scared” when you’re not in the moment, but I know it’s not that easy. Just do your best to know that you are not alone when you face these things and it will get easier. :crossrc:

Please consider seeking help from a mental health professional. As a therapist, I see many people who suffer from an anxiety disorder and experience what you are describing. I’m not saying that you have a mental illness, only that you might want to check it out.

God bless.

Linda

I concur with Linda, as well as the prayerful approaches mentioned by others. Most of us think of our physical illnesses at something we would both pray over and consult a doctor about, and something we would even think brought us to new growth and development, spiritually. This is exactly the same. Your mind is part of your body. I’m not jumping to any conclusions, nor do I want you to, but my son, who is very devout, has anxiety problems that have been helped both by prayer and the skillful use of therapy and medication. God avails himself of all His Creation to bring us help. God bless you. I will certainly remember you in my prayers.

Thanks so much for everyone’s help!!! :]

I’ve prayed the chaplet to St. Michael a few times before, I really like that prayer~! The only problem with praying for me is that my mind wanders a lot and it can end up thinking about things such as demons. However, I will try to pray more often ((usually I just pray before bed/meals)).

Actually, I just finished with a psychology class! :]
I never even thought this could be an anxiety attack, thanks for pointing that out! Even so, I don’t think I’ll seek medical help…
I think I also suffer from depression, but it’s gotten better on its own, and I’m already taking about 10 pills a day for physical problems and I think money would definitly be an issuse if i went to a therapist.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!! You’re in my prayers~! :]

I wish you well. Yes, keep praying as your daily dose. 🙂
God bless.

If you have trouble with distractions whilst you pray keep persevering it doesn’t matter what comes to your mind whilst you pray, just keep returning your thoughts to Jesus and please don’t worry about the thoughts that come to mind when you are trying to pray.

One thing I’d like to suggest to you is to make your life a beautiful prayer to Jesus. This way you are always mindful of His Presence (recollection) and in being mindful of Him you will grow in virtue and merit. If you pray with the making of your bed or with an evening with friends for example and offer such actions and words to Him God will sanctify all you do and you will grow in holiness in Him. All the things you do throughout the day no matter how small will become a prayer and you don’t have to say to Jesus, ‘Now look I am cleaning the house here is the cleaning prayer for you.’ as Jesus is with you and knows what you are doing at every moment. When you get up in the morning offer your entire day to Jesus for His Will and when you go to bed at night talk to Jesus about things as you would with your most treasured friend and also to God the Father as you would to the best of Fathers and to the Holy Spirit as one who loves and imparts love to you, then say an Our Father and then say an Act of Contrition and offer everything in your day to Jesus and thank Him for everything in your day. Do this every day and your life will be a prayer and you will grow closer and closer to Jesus and it will enrich your prayer life too as in the day you may quickly offer little words of love to Jesus ‘I love you Jesus’ and ‘Thank you Jesus my love and my life’ and you may also say a quick prayer for people ‘Bless this man’ or ‘Bless this woman’. You will find that Jesus will use you more and more in your daily life as an instrument of His Love because you are available and mindful that your every minute of every day is a prayer before Jesus.

You know our Blessed Mother prayed this way in all she did.

This kind of prayer is a Gospel Prayer, it is the living Gospel of your life and is Apostolic in nature. Give it a try, it may suit you.🙂

I will keep you in the Living Prayer of my life.

Thanks so much blessedstar!!! 😃
That’s a very good approach, I’ll do my best! :]

I thought of this after I posted last time. Even though I have been plagued by spirits off and on for the last 40 odd years, I used to watch ‘Most Haunted’, usually late at night and would subsequently start at every noise afterwards and jump to the conclusion that it was supernatural in origin. (yes, stupid, I know and just asking for trouble) Then they had a ‘Most Haunted’ Marathon over the weekend. It was a cold rainy day and all my chores were done so I watched it all afternoon.

After seeing the medium go through his speil over and over, including ‘channeling’ spirits, and watching the cast jump at every noise, I came to the conclusion that these people were just scaring themselves and that the medium was a very good fraud. Then I chastised myself for falling for it and for letting myself be ‘spooked’. Spirits no longer scare me, although I will admit to being annoyed with them when they show up. They can do nothing to me because I trust in Jesus.

It is very easy to psych yourself into thinking that what is going on is supernatural which it may or may not be. If you are anxious to begin with, it will make it worse as you enter a downward spiral and each new sound, new shadowy movement augments what went before and you are left as a quivering fearful wreck. It doesn’t matter if it is supernatural or psychological. The fear and anxiety are quite overpowering.

This is not what Jesus wants for us.

Trusting in God is the remedy for Fear. That is what I was trying to get you to do, relying on the powerful St. Michael prayers to give you the confidence to trust. It doesn’t matter the source of the fears, the remedy is the same.

I recommend the book “Antidotes and Stepping Stones” by Fr. George Kosicki. C.S.B. described as 'powerful prescriptions for spiritual health based on the spirituality of St Faustina"

“The greatest obstacle of our human condition is fear. Fear paralyses us and keeps us in bondage. The list of the fears and anxieties that plague us would fill a book! Yet Our Lord said in the gospel; ‘Fear is useless, what is needed is trust.’ (Mk 5:36)
How do we trust in the midst of fears? How do we use trust as an antidote to our fears and as a stepping stone to sanctity? What can you and I do?
We can repeat over and over again, from the heart, “Jesus, I trust in You!” That says it all. It is our way of living as Christians; it is our response to Jesus who is Mercy Itself, who stands at the door of our hearts waiting for us to open them even a little bit (see Rev 3:20 and Diary, 1486, 1507).

Place all of your fears into His Merciful Heart and trust.”

Ya, I can understand about watching tv=problems…! 😛
Unfortunatly scary movies are one of my favorite and i’ve had a hard time giving them up… :
But now i try to watch other things, so hopefully I can get rid of them.

I really love St.Faustina~! I’m actually almost finished reading her diary…Sadly, I havnt really ‘talked’ to many of the saints recently, and i havnt really kept up the strong relationship i used to have with GOD… :
It’s going to take some great effort to get out of this, especially sence I stay up late…and get afraid of the dark. ((i sleep with my lights/Christian radio on~ :] ))

Cranberi,

I don’t know what your room is like, but maybe some of these suggestions will help (together if you have everything needed).
  1. Close your door - then you can view everything in your room and not have to worry about the hallway outside or whatever.
  2. Turn on the television to EWTN. This’ll distract your mind - and alot of people fall alseep infront of it. 🙂
  3. Make sure your room is well lit. Put a night light in the corner behind the door, or whatever parts are dark.
  4. Get a holy water font for your door if you can - although this won’t help you tonight. Then you can bless yourself upon entering and leaving your room.
Hope this helps,
Catholig

Hm, that seems very good!
I don’t have a TV in my room, but there’s one in another room?
I like the EWTN suggestion a lot though~! :]
I’ve tried watching Mother Angelica one time and I really did fall asleep~ 😃
In any case, I think this will really help, I’ll try this tonight~! :]
Thanks so much!!!
You’re in my prayers!

P.S.
I can watch EWTN on my laptop, though!!
So maybe I shouldn’t even need a TV!! :]
