I’m going to start reading the bible its been a while. I read it before but that was a long time ago.

Good for you! 🙂 I pray that God may inspire you and that you may do good things for Him!

I need to do the same. It seems like every time I try, I eventually get distracted and quit. 😊

Good for you. There are lot’s of good resources out there to help you. Please visit my humble website (linked below).

Last year I decided to start reading the bible on a regular basis. So far I have finished it twice and I have started on it for the third time

Years ago I came across a one-year plan for reading the Bible. It takes 15 minutes a day to read 3 chapters a day plus 5 on Sunday. I started at the beginning and read several different translations this way. Other people find it easier to start with the New Testament. Under Spiritual Direction, I was given Romans to start with for Lectio Divina, using the single scripture passage as the first line in my daily journal. I have a copy of The Christian Almanac that belonged to my brother. It is set up for basically 2 chapters of the OT plus 1 of the NT for reading the Bible in one year. Whichever method you choose, may you be blessed.

You’ve actually read the bible twice through in a year? Did you get anything else done? I went green with envy when I read that. But I also find it a bit hard to believe.😊

Well it was kinda easy for me because I was laid off for 6 months from my job, so basically I had nothing better to do than read for hours at a time. Yes I have also read other literature. I read the book “The Rhythm of Life” by Matthew Kelly, “Faith and Fraternalism”, and I read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. With my 15 month Bible plan I devised. 1 Psalm a day and 5 chapters from another book. After the Psalms are finished double up on your readings for 2 days the begin the Proverbs and 5 chapters of another book. When the Proverbs are over double on your readings again and start back with Psalm 1 and another 5 chapters from another book. In a little less than 15 months. You should have read all books twice and the book of Psalms 2.5 times as you will finish the Apocolypse the day you read Psalm 75. Then to keep on that same plan you just pick up with Psalm 76 and 5 Chapters from another book and cycle your way through. After the 2nd time you should finish Psalm 150 and Apocolypse 21-22. I used the Douay-Rheims as by Bible of choice for this reading schedule Then again accomplishing this task is easier for me for the fact I was laid off, I am single and have no children, plus I go to Bible study too

The Jews have a fixed schedule were the whole Tanak is broken down to fit a 52 weeks. RIght now Im using a Jehova Witness bible. I find the text to be much easier, Dont worry though If I come across anything that appears to be JW indoctrination I’ll cross refrence it with other bibles. My Mom still has the Vulgate but its all torn up. 😦 I read the bible before but this time I’m highlighting passages I might want to go back to latter.

Please get rid of the JWBible.! It’s translation is horrible, dishonest non scholarly and strictly worded to back up their view of the world the flesh and the devil. Buy yourself a new one-even second hand one. If you want I got spare bibles that I pick up at book sales and I can send you one if you really are short of money! But I beg you to dump the crud!😦

What are y’all getting out of reading the whole bible?

I read the OT for the first time essentially straight through from the beginning, except that I read Job after Genesis.

My big impression is how much God loves his people.

Jeff Cavins seems to be having a new series on EWTN about an overview of scripture --starts in Sept 6 at 2 p.m. eastern.

Aside from how much God loves his people, it was pretty miserable reading, how the Jews apostasized so much, if that’s the correct word for it, worshipping idols. That’s what I don’t understand, is why they fell off the wagon so easily? Why didn’t they listen to the prophets? It didn’t come across to me why they were such as they were.

Look at today. How many Christians, Catholic and non-Catholic, fall away? We have the Bible, fellow believers, Catholics have the Church…we have so much, and yet so many still fall away. The Israelites were much the same. Following God isn’t easy. Worshiping other gods is - especially when there’s peer pressure to do so.

Well I already got a good start on it but what I can do is to compare this bible to other bibles. I have underline a fairly large portion of Genesis when i finish this entire version i will go to different bibles and compare the underlying text. Dont worry I got into a discussion the other day with this guy who was absolutely adament about JWs. He told me their founder is a false prophet, no Greek Scholars agree with their bibles, and that none of the “prophecies” their founder made ever came true.

Sometimes I think that being a Christian is too easy in some countries, especially here in America where we are fat and happy. Usually the most persecution that we face is some unbeliever rolling their eyes. We don’t think that have to depend on God because we have so much stuff that destracts us. If we could only realize that many of us and other Church goers have the greatest opportunity to flourish in our Faith, unlike any other point in Christian history! But that is how it usually works, it did for the Jews. When they were flourishing they eventually got lazy and careless about God, and even rebellous, then when they were exiled and persecuted they would get pious again. There is something about persecution that seems to bring out the saints in us. Oh how we need God’s mercy!
