I'm having meat withdrawal symptoms

Sorry to get off topic.

Go eat some eggs. I’m not a vegetarian but I rarely eat meat just because I don’t like it too much. When I start feeling funny from going too many days without meat, I eat some eggs and always feel better they have a lot of the nutrients and amino acids you need.
Well, see, that could be a problem. I haven’t washed my frying pan in almost a year, because my roommate hadn’t done the dishes in that same amount of time, until this weekend. The bottom of the pan is all blackened with burnt stuff, and hence is no longer non-stick. Eggs tend to stick to things, no matter which way you have it.

Then boil them. I am thinking you just like to complain 'cause ya tend to find excuses for everything.

Ewwww!!! Throw that pan in the trash!!
Seriously, if the non-stick coating is gone, throw it away. It is now a health hazard.

As for not eating meat, you really need to substitute other protein sources for sustained energy and nutrients. Go to the store and buy a couple of boxes of high quality protein bars (NOT the ones loaded with sugar!). Eat eggs, cereal or oatmeal for breakfast, have a protein bar at lunch and again mid-afternoon if you get hungry again.
Those protein bars are great at holding hunger at bay!

No no, that’s what I did, too! I’ve gone over 3 weeks without meat now. It’s torture, I tell ya!

Just bought some smoked salmon. At least it will taste like meat!
Goodness. You can eat eggs, right? Those will give you plenty of protein and B vitamins. Cheese? You’re good to go. Failing that, find a B-complex vitamin supplement.

Y’all are wimps. Try being Byzantine Catholic and giving up meat, eggs, and cheese for all of Lent…while feeding your kids meat and eggs because they’re not bound to the Lenten fasting rules yet. TRY it, I say!

Hard boil them. And stop complaining. Heavens to Murgatroyd, remember that Jesus told us to not be like the guy standing on the corner praying so everyone could hear…fast with a smile on your face. It’s hard. But try it. And quit yer whining. 😃

Oh ICK. :bigyikes: Go buy a new non-stick pan! Please! Toss that old, icky one before you get roaches! :tsktsk:

MEN! :ehh: 😃 lol.

My advice (as a vegetarian who used to eat meat)…

if you’re craving meat, you need one of the following:
protein… eat grains and legumes together in a meal. Beans + Rice = Extra Protein.
B-12… get a B-12 supplement from the drug store. You can’t get this from a “vegan” diet, and the processing of dairy lowers the quantitiy of it in dairy products. Also, it’s water-soluable so it’s safe to take without consulting a doctor.
iron … eat some dark greens and other iron rich food (iron pills are hard on the stomach)

You know we CAN indulge in our Lenten ‘fast’ items on Sundays - which are always mini-Easters. So consider allowing yourself a meaty breakout on the Lord’s day.

Remember though breaking a fast can make it hard to restart – and gluttony is not allowed. 😃

I know the temptation to leap for the kill is there. . . 😛

Oh I’m a carnivore through and through - I’d probably go to my nearest steakhouse and ask for a quarter of a cow, just knock the horns off and wipe its bottom and put it on that plate for me! 😃

But seriously, when I give up things like sugar or chocolate, I am less able to tolerate them when I go back. Your body has ways of forcing moderation at such times.

Now you’re talking! 👍

Yes, Lily, my mother gave up chocolate, so I keep a Cubby of it on her counter thinking I am safe for the season, it was gone for except two yesterday, and she brought up the actual 46 days of the season and told be we are allowed to break it on Sunday. Seeing practically the whole thing gome, I came back with, but can we indulge it? I forgot last Sunday, too. I gave up cheese so…, that means no tiramisu, no pizza, no grated parmesano reggiano, no Eli’s, HELP, I’m in withdrawl! Tomorrow, I’m buying more truffles.

Interesting! I did not know this! On second thought, though, I think I’m just gonna abstain on Sundays, too. One day per week is not going to make it that much harder. I still wonder how I made it through Lent last year, when I did the same thing. Oh wait, I did break it once last year, but it was in fact on a Sunday, at church, no less. I totally forgot, and only after having had a ham sandwich did I realize what I had done. I was like, doh!

Man, this vegetarian diet is hard to swallow, literally! Darn squash thing I’m having for lunch today. Worst food, ever. I suppose I shouldn’t complain, but man oh man, is it bad! I think I need to give my “dis-compliments” to the chef. Sorry, just needed to vent.

Lethargy, salivation, stomach grumblings, extreme aversion to vegetarian stuff, picturing my roommate as a cheeseburger, etc. What can I do?!
You’re not my husband, are you?😉 OK–in all honesty, are you trying to go without meat for the entire Lenten season…or just having issues on Friday?

Try cheese.

I’m in my office, and there’re no snacks, well, except for some dried-up doughnuts that have been sitting there for a month. Oh yea, plus some moldy cereals. I think I would seriously die of starvation if TV dinners and takeout didn’t exist.
.
On the day before abstaining from meat, plan ahead and eat meat for dinner.
That should hold you over for 36 hrs. On your abstaining or fasting days, eat nuts or cheese for protein. A hearty tuna sandwich on a whole grain bread is really filling and satisfying in my experience.

The last thing I would want to touch during the fasting days of Lent would be dry cereal or donuts, those kind of simple carbs would do nothing for me except make me crave garbage all the more.

Just use this time to plan ahead and be diligent. Those are spiritual values too.

And if you don’t like da “fishies”… a peanut butter and honey (or jelly) sandwich is also very filling! And nutritious. So far, this Lent… I’ve gone through almost 2 new jars of “Jiff”. 😃
