Are you involved in your parish or any groups that meet there?

I’m sorry “Ep”. :console: Lonliness is a sad part of the human experience, which even Our dear Lord endured. 😦 Just remember… He is always with you.

I think “LIA” had a good suggestion. Have you gotten involved in any of your parish groups, ministries or activities? What about social groups… for singles in your age range? Try ALL of the parishes near your home. God willing, you’ll find a wonderful girl thatta way. 😉

You’re in my prayers. I understand lonliness. It’s very lonely, being sole caregiver to someone with whom you can not communicate. I seldom have anyone to talk to. So, Jesus gets a lot of my “grief” :o. He’s an awesome and patient Friend, though. The BEST.

God bless you, dear soul.

I see that you are recognizing the feeling of loneliness affecting your relationship with God. That is important, but in my humble opinion, you may also want to look at what else it might affect. It also affects your relationship with those around you, not just with God.

It is good to have a spiritual director that you can trust and discuss with your struggling with. You properly cannot express enough with those people online although there are so many good advices and help.

In my personal experiences, I’ve found that by interacting and working with more people, God is helping my relationship with Him better - through having good relationship with others. Some posters mentioned about joining different ministries at your parish. This is a very good way to start.

You mustn’t give into the feeling of loneliness, you have to fight it and overcome it. 👍 🙂

Loneliness is a self-defeating emotion, because God is always there, and are the angels and saints. The emotion itself prevents you from feeling as you should, God consoling you, and you responding to the Lord’s presence in your life.

Do your best!

…and it’s seriously affecting my relationship with God. 😦 😦 😦
My priest says loneliness is a call to a closer relationship with God, and an indication I should spend time working on my prayer life. He says loneliness and suffering are God’s way of drawing us closer to Himself because it makes us more like His Son.

Hey Epistemes, sorry to hear things are going rough again! You are never totally alone. God is there with you. Jesus said He is always with us and He is!

What can we do to help? I am praying for you and hope you are still praying too!

God Bless!

ps: You have all of us too!

Well, I’m part of a Bible Study (with mostly older ladies), and RCIA (which is infrequent).

I just contacted the local prison ministries to see if there is anything I can do.

I hope this might be one of the very good ministries for you. Talking about loneliness, the men and women in prisons can say a lot about that.

I like the advice puzzleannie gives regularly, the gist of which is to get out and do things for others in need, and you won’t focus so much on yourself and your own problems.

I used to feel a bit lonely, but then I was like “Well, I have all this free time… let’s pray!”

And it’s helped a bit.

Maybe you could organize coffee and doughnuts after Mass once a month?

Prison ministry sounds like a way to help others.

Maybe you could look for young adult groups? Check with your diocese.

This makes sense to me, though it’s a tough thing to accept sometimes. 😊 I’ve been pretty lonely myself lately…

I agree, getting “out there” and involved with other people, groups, etc. would be good.

Praying for you. :crossrc: :hug1:

Pray this prayer:

O my Jesus, You are the Friend of my heart, and You are present in the Tabernacle. You are as lonely as I am. Give me the graces to visit You, or, if not possible, to be wth You in spirit, and may You rest in my heart as I rest in Your Heart.

Hi Epistemes & anyone else who is feeling lonely. You are not alone,we are never alone God is with us always.
I know its hard I have been there. There was a time in my life I felt destitute and desperate I was so unhappy.
Of course pray but God will be answering you too will you hear Him?He could be answering your prayers by giving you the chances of meeting other like minded people via some activity/group Doing something practical is a good idea.Join a young adult group of some sort. Do you like music?
Helping visiting prisoners is good but are you going to meet a nice young lady there?Possibly/possibly not.Start a new class cooking class/new language.Maybe learn to play a new sport?Reading books in a book club?
Keep praying my friend you are in my thoughts and prayers

I know this feeling well. Growing up I was an only child and I tended to be shy by nature.
I’ve worked hard at overcoming the shyness and am much better in this area now. I’ve been experiencing a very specific type of loneliness these days which I won’t get into here. While I don’t think it has affected my prayer life, it definitely does affect me at Mass.

Church groups and even various secular groups can be helpful, especially with people in your age range and/or state in life. However, even with people whose circumstances are vastly different than our, the company is often helpful.

I can definitely relate to how you feel, and I hope some of this helps.

Hi Epistemes have you felt any less lonely?Joined any new group activity/done something different in your routine etc?
I have been thinking about you and praying for you hope you have had some improvement.
May Almighty God come down upon you this day and always to be with you in your times of need and comfort you Amen

Loneliness comes in bouts – frequent bouts…but bouts nonetheless. There are moments of reprieve.

Some of you have said “get involved,” some have some “help others,” and some say that I need to develop my prayer life…and I fully agree. I try – seriously, I do – but the loneliness I feel can be so overwhelming at times. I try to offer up my sufferings, I try to reflect on the loneliness experienced by our Lord, I try reflecting on the even more severe loneliness of others, but sometimes it’s to little avail.

In all honesty, it’s selfish for me to constantly come here and complain about my loneliness because there’s little you all can do for me but type words of encouragement. It’s the people I live with, the people I work with, the people who I call “friend” that I feel isolated from. Maybe I even feel isolated from God and myself…I don’t know.

I don’t know that I’ll ever not feel lonely. If I had a girlfriend, I’m not sure she’d ever completely understand me nor would I ever completely understand her. If I had a “best friend,” that doesn’t necessarily mean that I can simply unload my existential dilemmas with no confrontation or unwanted advice. It would be nice, though, to at least know that someone cared.

Maybe if I believed that someone cared and loved me I would stop giving in to fantasies where I am loved and appreciated by my complete opposite.
