I never went to confession
You have never been to cpnfession at all?
It is a very important sacrament.
As Catholics we are required to go at least once a year (I am not sure from which age on, amybe somebody else here knows that?)

It does not only give you God’s wonderful forgiveness, but it is also a chance to put your mind at ease about things you are not sure about… the priest might give you advice on how to behave in certain situations in the future… and you will feel God’s great love and forgiveness, can so to say spill out all that lies on your conscience and be free. Isn’t that wonderful?

I just called sony and they said theres no way to check your bitrthday on ps3 so i guess they cant even see my birthday even so im not liyng to no one I guess
I think that’s kind of funny - to me, this seems like their way of putting their fingers in their ears and saying ‘we choose not to heeeeearrrrr you…’
Personally, I think that anything that makes them more money will make their CEO’s happy. And I’m sure that they’re aware of all the teenagers registering underage accounts. Just like bars that are aware of teenagers with fake ID’s.

Anyways, ask yourself if the games you’re playing are something your parents will get upset over. If not, why go behind their back? But if so, like I said earlier…

Lastly, as a parent who was once a kid, I did plenty of things that I was sure would tick off my parents but didn’t bother them at all, and there were times they got upset but the anger was short-lived. There’s been plenty of times as a parent when I’ve acted angry because I had to set an example, but inside I was almost laughing. Not that this necessarily be any or all of the above, but hopefully it lends some perspective to your issue. Do the right thing…

my parents don’t care what i play but care if i talk to creepos, tell them my personal info, or talk smack to people but i dont do that and i have permission to play online.

Now i feel guilty about using that account i don’t want to make a new one because i put so much time and effort into that account and i bought things i that account too. My mom is telling me it is not a sin and don’t worry about than i think what you guys say than i get guilty again no offense to you guys

Steve, you asked on a Catholic website, you have gotten Catholic opinions. Now go and talk to your priest. I think you are old enough to have already made your first confession, but maybe not, I came to the Catholic Church in my old age and my daughter was over 21, so what do I know?

Yes, talk to a priest, he is a man specially blessed by God and you can trust his advice with good conscience. 🙂

You could call your local parish and say you need to talk to a priest because you are very worried about a moral question.
🙂 🙂 🙂
And at the same time you can also ask him about confession.

I cant go to a confessor to talk about this my mom wont take me because this is a dumb reason so that’s why i keep asking questions here.

You could try to write in the Ask An Apologist Forum.
Be sure to include
  • what you wroter about lying
  • how much work you put into the account
  • that you wrote the company
  • that you haven’t been to confession (never, right? if that is the case)
Sometimes a priest will answer it then, or an apologist/somebody who knows moral theology very well

You should go to Confession because all Catholics are required to go to Confession at least once a year. This doesn’t have to be your reason for going. But it would offer you the opportunity to get clarity on this issue if it is still weighing on you.

Confession is a good thing for all Catholics to do regularly. You don’t have to have committed terrible, unspeakable sins to go to Confession. Even the holiest of saints go to Confession at least once a week in many cases. If they can think of things to confess once a week, surely it should be no problem for the rest of us to come up with things to confess once a year (or preferably more often than that).

Think of it this way, do you only take a bath/shower when you are completely filthy, dirty and smelly? Do you only bathe once a year? No. You bathe often to maintain basic standards of cleanliness. How much more so do we need to do this with our soul! We don’t need to wait until we are completely bogged down by mortal sin. We ought to get a spiritual cleansing regularly to make sure we don’t get into that filthy, dirty, smelly spiritual state to begin with.

Does anybody here know from what age on one has to go at least once a year?

Does anybody here know from what age on one has to go at least once a year?
From the Code of Canon Law:

Can. 989 After having reached the age of discretion, each member of the faithful is ob-liged to confess faithfully his or her grave sins at least once a year.

I suppose that technically one might be off the hook if one does not commit any grave sins in over a year.

I wonder if I have ever reached the age of discretion at 38 ;)) Just kidding… But seriously, does that differ from person to person then, or what exactly does that mean?

Good question. Around 7 or thereabouts in Catholic terms.

and you and I aren’t in the USA, so who knows for us?

I used to have a t-shirt with the slogan: Old enough to know better. Young enough to do it anyway. 😉

So im 13 have a ps3 and online on it n i made a account in 2009 but the only way i could play online is to put my age 18 or my parents have to make a other account to make mine ( parents speak spanish) so my brother put i was 18. I still use the account now but im i sinnig because im lieing about my age . My parents let me play online too so. My brother now is 18 years old too.
I don’t see there is any sin if the only reason you created this account was to play games and you have your parents permission.

My kids have online accounts for different things you need to be 18 for. It’s the only way they can have their own account. Like you say, the only other way they access the sites they want to go on would be if I created an account and then they used it, which is just silly if they are the one playing on it or using it. I know what sites they are on and communication from these sites comes through to my email as the accounts are registered to my email. My kids are 11 and 9 and they would buy games labelled ‘15’ and some films may be labelled ‘18.’ They can do so if I am with them. In my country the film ‘Gremlins’ got an ‘18’ rating.

The reason stones sites have this ‘over 18’ thing is not for your safety, it’s to cover their own backs. Computers are also stupid and sometimes you have to ‘lie’ to them or they won’t do what you want. 😃

This is beside the topic, but I saw that the first article says at he age of reason also begins the obligation to abstain from meat on certain days. But I thought in the US that starts at 14? Right now where I am though, in Croatia (was my first Good Friday and Easter here 🙂 ), more than one person (not priests) told me that that would usually tbe thought to start after first communion.
More confusion, but maybe this really also depends on the place.

Canon law says age 14:

Can. 1252 The law of abstinence binds those who have completed their fourteenth year. The law of fasting binds those who have attained their majority, until the beginning of their sixtieth year. Pastors of souls and parents are to ensure that even those who by reason of their age are not bound by the law of fasting and abstinence, are taught the true meaning of penance.

Perhaps other local episcopal conferences have approved modifications to this canon. I don’t know enough about Canon Law to say.

Tell your parents about the situation and ask for their permission to continue using the account.

As far as I have understood it, he already did that. The parents say it’s ok, right? It is the fact that he had to lie about his age to create the accoutn that is the problem. Or your brother created the account? In whose name is it, anyway?

I just saw on the Croatian site “katolici na internetu” (catholics on the Internet) that here too abstinence is obligatory from 14 years of age.
