I was wondering - I am in my 40’s and was baptized Catholic as a baby. I am not confirmed. Can I go to confession?

if you have had your first confession then the answer is yes. we usually do this at about age 7. have you ever had your first confession? if not, why not talk to a priest? i’d talk to one regardless.

Yes! Definitely. In fact, the way it is for most Catholics is that you have your first confession and first Communion at a youngish age (when are they doing it these days, age 8 or so?), and then confirmation a couple of years later. So there is no requirement of confirmation to go to confession. Canon law makes clear that confession is open to any “member of the Christian faithful,” which you are by virtue of your baptism into the Catholic Church.
Sounds like you may have been away from the Church for, oh, a little while? Well, you and tons of other people. Don’t sweat it – priests have seen it all.

I’m going off my own experience. I was baptized Catholic, had 1st communion but never confirmed. Yes…I can go to confession as a sacrament.
My husband…baptized Catholic but no 1st communion. He was told he could go in and pray with Father but not have it as a sacrament.
So…have you had 1st communion?

The only requirement is Baptism. Confirmation for Cradle Catholics comes after Penace / Holy Communion and the purpose of which is to make us soldiers for Christ. First communion usually occurs after age 7 the age in which the Church considers one to have developed sufficient reason. Confirmation usually is given in the teen years once a young person has reached Adolecence. And of course for a convert they can be given at any time.
