I had been feeling nauseated, lumpy and sick for a couple of weeks. I thought maybe it had to do with my ovarian cyst but yesterday, I took a pregnancy test just to be safe… and it was positive. I just took another one now and it’s also positive. I will be going to get a blood test to be 100% sure but they were both very strong positives. Although I am happy because God apparently thinks this is a good time for us to have a baby, I am terrified because I’m not so sure anyone else will agree. Just yesterday, my mom was telling me to be careful and not get pregnant because my husband and I have been married for just four months, the economy is bad and I am having trouble getting hired. All I can think of is, are we ready? Will we be GOOD parents? Will the baby be healthy? Can we afford it? What will happen?

I am so freaked out right now. I am almost 22 and my husband will be 24 in a few days. I wanted to wait three years to have a baby. I’m just really scared right now and I know that our parents, family and older friends will not support us at first but probably be angry. I think this is the worst part for me: anticipating their reaction. The last thing I want is people to look down on us when we need so much support and counsel.

I don’t know what to do. Please, anyone have some pearls of wisdom to share with a freaked-out pregnant newlywed?

Congratulations! You have a baby growing inside of you and this is a blessing from God.

The economy will always go up and down and families will always have their opinions on what you should do…that will never change even when your baby is a teenager 🙂

You will be fine. You are married and you sound happy. Enjoy your pregnancy. It’s an amazing experience and don’t let anyone take that away from you. When you feel your baby’s first kick and see him/her on an ultrasound for the first time, you will fall completely head over heals in-love. This is a special time for you and your husband.

Enjoy your pregnancy…take prenatal vitamins and omega 3 oil so your baby will be nice and healthy 👍

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You just wait 'til you feel that little one start to move in your womb. It’ll positively blow you away! ❤️ ❤️

Thank You Jesus for this new little life growing inside your child Blessourhome! ❤️ ❤️

Congratulations! I also was pregnant with my first four months after the wedding. My mother and father were NOT happy, they both said I should have waited three years to have a baby like they did–then I reminded them that that three year gap was due to Dad being drafted into Vietnam for three years, and they said, “Oh…yeah. That’s right.” If everyone waited until they ‘felt ready’ to have a baby, the human race would have dwindled down to nothing by now!

I felt like you do—can I do this, am i ready? I thought we would have a year of being newlyweds before being pregnant and dealing with impending parenthood. Luckily, God gave me the grace and the strength to be a mom. Within a few weeks, I was excited and thrilled. It brought my new DH and myself closer, too.

Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called! Take your prenatal vitamins, make sure to take omega 3 oil (I took flax oil and it really did help with the postpartum period, and i think my babies were better off for it as well).

😃 CONGRATULATIONS! You are already on your way to being an exceptional parent by placing the concerns of your baby at the top of your worry list. You’re also showing that you’re practical by looking at the struggles you will face without brushing them off as, “Eh, no big thing.”

Already, you are two steps ahead. You’re going to make a fine mother.

As for family and friends supporting you, you are not them, and they cannot control what happens in God’s time. If they are angry, point out that everything happens in God’s time and not your or theirs. If they’re still unhappy, respectfully acknowledge their feelings, let them know that you will be happy to share your baby’s progress with them if they wish, and then, let it go.

Hugging a grandbaby for the first time brings most new gandparents around.

Anyway, I admire you for being thoughtful, not juvinel. Peace of Christ with you and your new baby! God won’t ever look down on you. He likes humans and will be happy to see you providing more for Him to love and shower with graces.

Congratulations!!!

Will you be good parents?

Let me ask you something in return. Do you want to be good parents?

It’s not hard, but it’s not easy. I’m not trying to be wishy washy here, I’m telling you that the parts you are afraid of messing up are likely to be the ones that you ace. The hard parts are the part you don’t know exist, yet. And, you get a few years before you really have to worry about it. And you are going to do fine. The first law of parenting is the law of love. You take the love that made them and you apply that throughout their lives.

Just love your child(ren). This gift that God has given you is without measure and your whole outlook on life is about to change. In five years you’ll look back and wonder who you were or what you used to think about/pray about/take pride in.

One of the most wonderful things about being a parent is the catechism you are about to receive. As a parent you can learn about who God is and what his relationship is to you. Your children can teach you if you let them. You will see mirrored in their day-to-day actions, your own actions toward our Father. You are about to understand what it means to want the best for someone, even when they think they know what is best for themselves.

When your heart is filled with joy and your heart feels like it is going to burst for the love you feel toward your son or daughter, even as you are irritated with something they have done, it will suddenly occur to you that this is how our Father must feel about us. You will understand forgiveness and yet the need to chasten. You will understand how discomfort and even pain can serve the Good.

It’s been a long time since I had a baby. The truth is that I miss it. All of mine are teens and beyond now. I remember being 22 and having a child and another on the way. Your nervousness is normal. I’d wonder what kind of person you were, if you weren’t.

God has blessed you and given you a wonderful gift. Look what love has wrought!

Thank you so much, everyone! You’re going to make me cry!

I completely agree with the fact that God decides when and why things happen. The hard part will be explaining this to parents who usually forget God when difficult things happen; they just care about THEIR opinions, like they’re God themselves, or something. I’ve often wondered, though, what my dad would be like seeing a grandchild for the first time. He’s a very emotionally distant person, so seeing him melt would be a gift to me. Yesterday, I was thinking that there must be a good reason why this baby is happening now. My dad is 70 in March and always thinks death is around the corner. Maybe this baby has to come soon so he can see him/her? I don’t know. All I know is I’m a nauseous mess of hormones right now. 😛

Congratulations, blessourhome! Your home has been blessed 😉 !

We were in a similar situation when we found out in Nov. I was expecting. I was unemployed, DH’s salary was nowhere near enough for us to survive on, and we’d only gotten married in May (we are 24 and 25). If our circumstances were better we would have planned on trying by then, but we’d just decided it would be best to wait 2 years after both our job situations were hopefully more stable. Well rather unexpectedly the stick turned blue ( I’d been told I had PCOS and thought we’d have trouble conceiving). I was really sick for about 8 or 9 straight weeks, and PANICKED.

But you know- it is really is true that God will take care of you if you put your trust in Him. DH had planned on leaving his job to start a new career, which would take 2-3 years before the pay was sufficient. When he told his supervisor he was leaving, his supervisor basically said, I can’t lose you, how much of an increase do you need and I will try and get it. So he got enough of a raise that we can manage on one income with careful planning. And in the meantime I got a part time job. Not much but it’s something in these tough times. And almost all of the big items we need for the baby we are able to borrow from family. So if we are smart, there will not be much difference in our expenses.

We waited until Christmas to spread the word, and by then we knew we had our plan. I had also anticipated mixed reaction because we were much younger and poorer than the rest of my siblings when they got married and had kids. But everyone is very happy and full of offers to hand over their maternity clothes and baby gear 🙂 You may be pleasantly surprised. I had decided ahead of time if someone gave us trouble, I would say, “We are happy to have this baby so there is no reason for you not to share our joy”.

That was a bit long but I just wanted to share our situation because it was so like ours. You have 9 months to figure things out. Take care if you’re feeling sick, and pray with your DH about the situation. Last of all, feel free to join us in the Pregnant Mommies thread :o

Congrats! Remember God doesn’t give us anything that he knows we can’t handle.

Freaking out is understandable. You are on the right path and you understand it is not about you and DH, there is new life coming into the world.

I can understand your parents misgivings as they are “your” mom and dad, you are their child and yes, even though you all grow up and get married, we still “worry” about you. I believe this is what your parents are feeling.

My daughter is adopting her fiancee’s 4 yr old when they get married in April and she wants to have a baby right away. They don’t have the best of jobs and income, but you know what, it’s not up to me, now is it?

As a parent of a daughter, I do worry, “how are they going to make it?” Then God answers, “that is why I chose you to be her mother.”

I don’t mean that parents should drop everything and run in such circumstances…what I mean is “support”, “love”, non-monetary support.

My daughter placed a child for adoption 3 yrs ago (bio dad jumped ship) and is very pro-life as is her fiancee. He is not Catholic but he is in total acceptance of what God brings to their lives.

Yes, the economy is awful. I have often thought of how families coped during the Depression Era. Families worked “together” and did the best with what they are given.

I wish the best to you and your DH. Nothing to freak out about…just pure joy! The morning sickness will give way…just wait until you see that first ultrasound! You will cry I guarantee.

All the best!
Juli

I am certain that once your parents make the connection that they will be grandparents, they will be happy. I think even if people are against you getting pregnant in theory, they jump onboard once it’s a reality. Babies are just too irresistable!

Will you be good parents? Yes, you will. Love each other… that is the very best thing you can do for your child.

God bless you! You’re in for the best ride of your life! 👍

I just did an online pregnancy due date calculator, from the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” website. If my last period is when I think it was and not that weird spotting that I thought was my period last month (thought it was because of my cyst), then apparently, I’m 10 weeks along! Omigosh!!! All I can think of was that I’ve been having alcohol lately. Not a lot, of course, just a drink or two here and there. Can it be a problem this early???

My baby is probably due in August. 🙂 That’s a good month: summer baby, like me!

All I can say, if you’ve made it 10 weeks without knowing from being sick you are lucky! 🙂 Now of course I stopped drinking once I knew I was pregnant (like you, not very frequently) but I wouldn’t worry yourself over an occasional drink. You can’t take it back anyway- just take care of yourself and the babe now that you do know.

I am so freaked out right now. I am almost 22 and my husband will be 24 in a few days. I wanted to wait three years to have a baby.
Once you hold that baby, you’ll wonder why you bothered waiting 4 months, much less 3 years 😉 .

Truer words never spoken!

And to the OP ~ don’t worry about the occasional drinks you’ve already had - you’re baby is fine.

Oh blessed, that’s great news…really! I also am happy to see that you and your hubby have grown in intimacy, I remember you writing a while back that you had some concerns there. I’m happy for you both!

I know that it can be a scary time, but with God, all things really are possible. All things being–Him giving you both the resources and method to take care of your baby. Trust in Him, and don’t get preoccupied with what your parents or anyone else thinks. You are a grown woman capable of making your own decisions. Your mom and dad should have no say in when you both decide to have a child. Oh, this brings back memories. I got pregnant shortly into my marriage as well…I think 9 months in, and my family had something to say about it. I was like, if you want to be a part of my life…you will keep your opinions to yourselves. They did. 😃 I will pray that everything goes well in your pregnancy, and that you will have the courage to not allow your parents to impact this happy time for you! It might seem scary now, but the joy of a baby growing inside of you will bring such a warmth and peace, you will forget about the economy and people’s opinons, before long. God bless, and good luck to you!

Dear BlessOurHome,

well, your home has been blessed!

take care of your body and you’ll be taking care of your baby. stay close to God and your baby will be closer to God inside of you. love your husband and be close to him and your baby will get to know him and love him long before s/he is born.

people wanted you to wait? well… that’s because lots of folks forget the real meaning of marriage.

CCC says,

2366 conjugal love naturally tends to be fruitful. A child does not come from outside as something added on to the mutual love of the spouses, but springs from the very heart of that mutual giving, as its fruit and fulfillment.

2398** Fecundity is a good, a gift and an end of marriage. By giving life, spouses participate in God’s fatherhood**.

CCC 2387 **The “supreme gift of marriage” is a human person. **

supreme, BlessOurHome. supreme. the best thing that could happen to you and your husband just did.

Just wanted to offer some encouragement. I’m 22 and DH is 24 also. We just got married in July after more than 5 years of dating. I got pregnant in September. We were planning to atleast wait awhile so that he would be in a stable job once the baby is born, but God had different plans. Baby is due beginning of June, he is done with Pharmacy school end of April and will hopefully be starting a job. I graduated in August and have been job searching with no luck. I had a great interview and second interview for a place and just waiting to see if they want to hire me. In about a month there will be no hiding the pregnancy at all, so I can kiss a job goodbye if this one doesnt hire me. I’m in a similar boat, in fact, DH and I don’t even have a house yet. I just have faith that God will provide.

Hey there. I was terrified about telling my family and relatives when I found out I was pregnant too. At the time I was unmarried and my fiance was unemployed. I was 22, too! My parents had spent years telling me what a horrible thing it would be if I got pregnant unexpectedly. I was sure they would dismember me and bury me in the backyard. I waited 11 weeks to tell them and agonized over it every step of the way.
I told my Mom over email (!) because I was too scared to tell her in person and nearly threw up I was so scared of her response. Well, she called me and told me how much she loved me and how much she supported me. Two days later she was reminding me to take my vitamins and trying to decide whether to be ‘Grammy’ or ‘Grandmama’ (she went with Grammy :D)
My Dad took it poorly, as I’d expected but came around over time. Now he is an amazing ‘Papa’ to his little grandson and loves him to bits.
All my other relatives were either supportive right away or came around in short term. There’s something about the reality of a sweet little baby joining the family that most people, even those with practical concerns find completely irresistable.
Tell them, I bet they’ll surprize you! And if not, be sure that everyone will melt once they lay eyes on that sweet little baby’s face.

Congratulations!

First, congratulations! God has chosen you to be a parent!

My wife and I were 22 and 24 when we were first expecting as well. Like you, we were going to wait a few years before starting a family. Of course God’s plans are not our own and are always the best for us. Now 7 years, 3 kids, and a dog later, we couldn’t be happier.

Our philosophy is “why wait?” There are so many people that wait for the “right moment” to marry, have children, make a career move, etc. They have to have the good job, house, and savings. The problem is, there is never the “right moment” for anything.

Be happy that God chose this moment for you. God Bless!

Congratulations. Now stop drinking. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is terrible.

As to your parents and friends, when the baby is in the relative when people will tell you to wait and that it is too soon. But once your pregnancy is real and in the positive now everyone will come around.
Baby’s make everyone feel young again and the parent that said that you cannot it will use those feelings to justify THEIR buying you baby stuff and showering your baby with gifts.

Just remember, once the baby is born it has the ability to make you invisible for a few months.😃
