Wow, OSUbride0708! I hope things get better for you quickly. Thanks for the support, everyone! It’s great to know that so many have been in the same position I am. The most important part is that you made it and are happy!

I went to the doctor’s today and they took some blood. I’ll know the results in a couple of days but she’s convinced I’m pregnant since the tests I took were so positive. I’m now on prenatal vitamins (does anyone know if Centrum is good? I’ve heard some things about that company…) and Folic Acid. I’m kind of relieved just because now my baby and I are under not just God’s care but doctors as well. Apparently, I’m probably 9 weeks and 3 days along. 🙂

I actually just got a call for a job interview Wednesday. I really hope they don’t ask me if I’m pregnant, or if they do, that they won’t have a problem with it. We really need a second income more than ever. We haven’t told our parents yet. I think we’re going to wait until my husband’s birthday dinner this week when we’re all together. My mom keeps asking me whenever we talk if I’ve gotten my period yet. It’s annoying now, especially because of the reaction I’m anticipating. I’m off to lie down now; I’m nauseous yet again. :S I’ll be sure to update when I have some more news. 🙂

Other than friendly banter during an interview, a potential employer cannot ask if you have kids or are pregnant, as part of the interview. Let me rephrase…they can, but it’s illegal, as used in the interview process. Good luck on it!!!

Glad you’re feeling better! Good luck with the blood test.

Make sure you are also taking Omega 3 capsules. I took flaxseed oil capsules during my last pregnancy. It helps with the baby’s brain development. Centrum is a great brand for the prenatal vitamins. Also take some Vitamin C for your immune system. Getting a cold while pregnant can really suck b/c you can’t take anything for it.

First of all - BIG Congratulations! 👍

Secondly there are a lot of couples who are married for years and put off having children only to realize that they end up having difficulty getting pregnant and struggle for years! You guys have been blessed early, that is truly wonderful!

Thirdly, you won’t show for a few months and employers can’t ask that question. Don’t be concerned about it effecting a job.

Finally, pray - without ceasing and thank God for this wonderful Gift. If you put your faith in Him and love your child you will be fine 🙂

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so happy for you! A baby is truly the most precious gift that God could send you and your husband. I am 22 and my husband is almost 23 and our first is due in 5 weeks. The feeling of the first kick is soooo amazing!!! And you will be amazed at how much your heart wells with love for your husband and baby as the baby develops! I am constantly amazed by how adorable (don’t tell on me for thinking that) my husband is when he talks to the baby and feels him kick!

As for your parents… I can understand where you a coming from. His parents reaction when we told them was, “well, you’ll have to make a lot more money now.” Since then they have grown in their support of us, especially as the due date gets closer. Remember that the baby is a gift and that most often, grandparents come around as that gift grows and develops. If they do have a problem with it, it IS THEIR PROBLEM, not yours. Just be happy and let time and the charm of your baby do their work!

Being a good parent!!! I know what you mean. I’m reaching the point of extreme nervousness. However, I have learned more and more to lean on God and rest in Him. I will do my best to be a saint which is my calling, and to help my children develop into saints as well. Some great books that my Mom gave me are by James Stenson. I am presently reading *Lifeline The Religious Upringing of Your Children * It is beautiful and challenging. I would definitely recommend it to all parents!!!

You are in my prayers!!! Remember, have Mary’s Joy and ask for her help. After all, I often wonder if she was afraid to tell her parents that she was pregnant! God bless you!!!

I had been feeling nauseated, lumpy and sick for a couple of weeks. I thought maybe it had to do with my ovarian cyst but yesterday, I took a pregnancy test just to be safe… and it was positive. I just took another one now and it’s also positive. I will be going to get a blood test to be 100% sure but they were both very strong positives. Although I am happy because God apparently thinks this is a good time for us to have a baby, I am terrified because I’m not so sure anyone else will agree. Just yesterday, my mom was telling me to be careful and not get pregnant because my husband and I have been married for just four months, the economy is bad and I am having trouble getting hired. All I can think of is, are we ready? Will we be GOOD parents? Will the baby be healthy? Can we afford it? What will happen?

I am so freaked out right now. I am almost 22 and my husband will be 24 in a few days. I wanted to wait three years to have a baby. I’m just really scared right now and I know that our parents, family and older friends will not support us at first but probably be angry. I think this is the worst part for me: anticipating their reaction. The last thing I want is people to look down on us when we need so much support and counsel.

I don’t know what to do. Please, anyone have some pearls of wisdom to share with a freaked-out pregnant newlywed?
WOW!!! I just read this and thought to myself-- did I write this post?!

I am having the same problem. I got married in august and I am due in may. I have been scared to death to tell my parents, they don’t know yet! I know they’ll think we were irresponsable even though (sorry TMI) it HAD to have happened on the wedding night… because I kept trying to track myself for NFP and finally realized I wasn’t cycling! Oh %#@!!! :o

I am so scared about money, being out of work, and being a good parent, I am not ready not one bit! I’m not sure I’m mature enough to even want to give up my kidless lifestyle yet! It’s all hit me like a ton of bricks this past month or so… Apparently God thinks I am ready for this(and you too) though. that’s the only thing that gives me hope.

I mean, we are supposed to be excited about this blessing! It’s why we got married after all, right?! I’m not excited, I’m terrified! I’m stessed and upset and borderline crazy over the whole thing!

so I may not be able to advise you much here, but I’ll sure lend you an ear or a shoulder from someone who’s in your boat with you! maybe we can put our heads together and figure out how this mom stuff is supposed to work… :hug1:

Hi!

blueskiesrgs, you’re so close! Just a few more weeks. I’m so happy to hear that you’ve been doing well with the baby and with your husband. I can’t wait to feel the baby inside me. 🙂

just_me, wow! I can’t believe you have the same story. Wedding night baby, eh? 🙂 I heard that happens more often than you think. I know what you mean about our parents thinking we are irresponsible. We told our parents two days ago and the reactions were nearly all the same. His parents and my mother were shocked at first but as the minutes went on, they became more excited about the idea of being grandparents and being able to see their first and only grandchild. My father, on the other hand, claims (to my mom) to be happy but just today he asked me why I didn’t “use my head.” That really hurt. What if my child asks me down the line what grandpa said when he found out I was expecting? Do I lie? Do I sugarcoat it? All I know is that right now, I do think of Mary and what a blessing a child is. I think of all of the comments posted here offering support and maintaining that a child is a gift not bestowed upon just everyone. It has really made a difference and calmed me down. We’re lucky to be chosen, even if it’s right now, when we’re so young, to be parents. Obviously, we have something to offer to our child(ren).

Yes, I’m still scared and more so when I think of labour… but I just want my child to feel loved and protected. I want to celebrate! 🙂

What wonderful news. Now, your first act as a parent, as you are one now, is to defend your baby against all foes, both foreign and domestic. That means, stand up to your parents. You’ve done nothing wrong, don’t act like it. It is quite alright to tell them there are two acceptable response: joyful and silent. Then, enforce that. If they try and “parent” you, smile, tell them, “We’re thrilled and I know you will be too eventually.” Then, change the subject. Everytime.

You’re an adult now. They are adults too, you’re on a level playing field. You’re also both parents now, something you did not share with them before. Your relationship should be moving to one of mutual respect and less of a dependent daughter.

I was 19 and my wife was 18 when the first of our children came along. We had to become grown-ups while we were still children. You’re older than we were and have a leg up. Believe in yourselves, cleave together as husband and wife. Support and defend each other. Now is the time to begin building your family unity and move away from your parent’s influence as much.

Remember, you’re setting the tone for how your parents treat your child. It’s not about you anymore. Welcome to parenthood.

Hooray. What great news. I’m glad you are relating your joy to that of Mary when she received her glad tidings of being the mother of baby Jesus. Thank You God for this blessed new life to love.

I got the results of my blood test today. I’m definitely pregnant! To my surprise, I said yay when my doctor confirmed it. 🙂 I have another blood test/pregnancy screen on Monday to check my levels of minerals and such. I’m actually also starting my new job after! I got the call today that I’m hired! My only worry is what if they notice I’m starting to show in the next few weeks? How do I handle that?

Hooray!
I would just let them guess. I started a job when I was 15 weeks pregnant and no one really guessed until I was 24 weeks along. Most people won’t say a thing unless they’re absolutely certain you are pregnant so you can keep em guessing for a while. After you’re done your probationary period (if there is one) you should tell your boss and arrange for mat leave.

This. I’m basically 5 months and you can’t tell I’m pregnant. Maybe if I wear something form fitting but then it’d still be a guess. You probably don’t have to worry about that for awhile. Wait a little while then when you’re comfortable, tell your boss. However, don’t tell ANY coworkers before telling your boss. Then it might seem like you were hiding it.
If you can, try to look up the maternity laws in your state. My state has to give you at least 12 weeks unpaid AND guarantees your job when you come back. This is regardless of how long you’ve been working there. Some states say you must work x amount of time first.

Congratulations!!
This post is great because my husband and I got pregnant in our first week of marriage, I am 22 and he is 24 and i am attending grad school in a new state so my husband didn’t have a job until now, so that was four months we lived off my student loans. I am now 25 weeks along and when the baby kicks it feels like getting punched from the inside =) But it is great. Our families really supprised us be being wonderfully supportive even though I thought my mom would be judgmental.
Yes look up employment laws in your state, most have pretty good laws regarding maternity leave and about discriminating based on gender (ie pregnancy). If you are having financial difficulties from not working, try applying for WIC (women infant child program) which helps suppliment the food bill.
All in all God will provide. Thats what we have learned and it has brought us so close. Praying for you.

peace
