I want to first say I consider myself a Catholic, but I have not been a practicing Catholic for quite some time. I have lost my way, gone down the wrong path. I am now in a major bind and I am not sure what to do. I want to find my way back to God and the church, but after this and the options I have to choose, I am not sure it is possible and I need some guidance and help. Recently I comitted adultry. I was very weak. My husband is a great man and I gave into temptation and fell in love with another man and comitted this horrible sin. As a result of this I have recentely discovered I am pregnant. My husband and I have 5 beautiful children together. I am now faced with this major dilemma. If I tell my husband about the pregnancy he will instantly file for divorce. The only other option is an abortion which as a Catholic and a mom and a human being I am not sure I can do, but for my family I need to consider it as an option. I need to find my way back to God. I need to do what is right and repent my sins. I have been praying for advice, and I can not bring myslef to have an abortion. At the same time I can’t bring myself to tell my husband. I need advice and guidance.

Dear friend,

It is never too late to turn back to the Lord. I suggest that you begin spending time before the tabernacle and reflecting on Good Friday. On that day the Lord answered every basic question and gave Himself as the solution to every serious problem. Put your life in His hands and He will show you the way.

What we do know in your current situation is that abortion certainly is not an option. If you think you feel bad now, it is nothing compared to having the killing of your own child on your conscience. No one—not even your other children, would benefit from such a choice. No one ever benefits from abortion—no one!

What we do NOT know is how your husband would ultimately react to such news. Certainly, his first reaction could very well be to want a divorce. But we really don’t know how he would see the situation after giving it some thought. The good of the family must be weighed. It is possible that giving the baby away for adoption could be acceptable to him. Perhaps you could stay with a relative or friend in a distant city until you gave birth. There ARE ways of handling the situation in which your children would not have to know.

But the important thing is that you go to Confession and begin seeing a priest for direction on a regular basis. Start spending time before the Blessed Sacrament as I suggested. I know that there doesn’t seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel, but I assure you that there IS. He is the light and HE will see you through this. I will send you a refection on his passion to help you to focus. I ask all who read this to pray for you. Feel free to contact me privately. Just click on my name.
