Actually, the economy would do a lot better if people lived within their means and only bought the things that they really needed.

As I understand it, your current American recession was brought about by people who took out mortgages that they couldn’t afford, and went bankrupt because they couldn’t pay their debts.

IMO it’s the kind of answers we’ve read here that “put people off” on 'organized religion"…rude, sarcastic, often spiteful…not much that would entice anyone to look into “organized religion” for the most part.

In the Meeting I attend we get our share of “Seekers” who often use the same phrase of “being spiritual” but “not religious”…“not religious” usually carries a connotation very close to the responses we’ve made in this thread…not much in the way of displaying the “Spirit of Christ” or “love of God” toward others.

The writer of one of the letters of John said something about “How can we say we love God whom we have not seen, yet hate our brother whom we have seen?” IMO, this is the difference those who use that phrase “spiritual vs religious” is really trying to make…perhaps we should listen to them a bit more closely…we may learn more about ourselves than we want to…the “spiritual” vs the “religious” phrase is often a mirror not too many of really want to look into…IMO.

Thank you for your response, but it appears to have no effect since the sarcasm and cynical remarks continues on this thread unabated.

It appears that some at least can be religious without being spiritual, mere rule followers but no spirit of love in observance of the rules.

Actually, it’s the “spiritual but not religious” who are all talk and no action. To be “religious” is to be someone who acts on (religio) his or her spirituality.
