I'm starting to feel hostile towards Islam

Funny how that is not the stance of CAIR whose leaders have publicly stated that their aim is to make the US into a sharia state. Omar Ahmad, co-founder of CAIR, said this:

“Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”

I find that highly offensive but I don’t burn mosques or effigies of Omar Ahmad or kill Muslimahs in protest.
Thanks, Rodrigo, for proving my point!

You don’t want to feel hostile dont feed that. But one must be realistic when a Catholic. Catholicism incites violence by it’s nature. If the world is violent and comes in contact with peace it reacts violently. Which is why Christ was crucified. He brought God’s peace. And he got nailed to a cross. The Pope speaks of peace and the world threatens to assassinate him. Reminds me of the time a person during an audience went into a sudden rage and had to have an impromptu exorcism by the Pope right in front of the reporters. Happens. Part of being Catholic. Used to bother me. My husband has noticed that some people simply go into a rage as soon as Catholics walk into a room. Happens. If people are not reacting violently to words of peace then the Church is not properly speaking peace. Sorry. Just the way it is. The Church is called to be outrageous and scandalous. We are called to speak Christ’s peace and hold up a pathetic crucifix, something those who live by the sword hate and fear. I have always thought it was because those who live by the Crucifix hand over all control of their lives to God and those who live by the sword refuse to let God interfere. Maybe.
That was quite grounding. I think I needed that.

True,

And I know a guy from Pakistan who would never hurt a fly. Plenty of Islamic imigrants have no militant islamic agenda at all. Those that do won’t get very far. (Serious) terrorists will pose as liberal Islamics and won’t tip there hand. So all that is left to do is give people the benefit of the doubt and proper respect. If you see something suspicious then call it in. In strictly mathematical terms, the vast majority of muslims in the country are harmless and would call in a terrorist themselves. Downtown Tehran is a different story.

Jesus’ teachings on this are very clear “Love thy neighbour as thy self”.

He made it very clear that our neighbour includes people of other beliefs. By all means condem the actions of some individuals or governments, but do not make the mistake of condemning individuals or attacking their faith, this is not an act of love.

Hostility creates hatred, love allows understanding and opportunities for change. Do not let your fear blind you to God’s message of Love

What was very funny to me was the incident about the Regensburg address. Some Muslims got mad that their religion was being ‘labeled’ as violent, then they burn effigies of the Pope and stuff, a nun got murdered. How can people NOT think they are violent? 🤷

If i call you an uncooth, uneducated, uncivilised buffoon and you hit me with a bat, I guess that you have proven me wrong. 👍

I do not feel hostility as much as disappointment. They seem to be a very dedicated people who refuse to defend their fatih from within. Put your money where your mouth is. You say youa re peaceful, get rid of the violent ones. Otherwise, sell it somewhere else.

We aren’t talking just a few whacko’s, but thousands that are on the streets now calling the Pope a “stupid pig”.
Come now, look at the picture there’s about twenty people there. Not thousands.

Muslims are about as helpless as Catholics or any other Christian in being able to get rid of their undesirables. Do you think a lot of the TV preachers and healers asking for money all the time represent good Christianity? How do you get rid of them, assassinate them?

I have read the Koran and all the hate and instructions to convert or destroy are in there.
Hi

It is good that you have read Quran. Now, just tell us did you find any hate word about Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Mary and the Apostles?

Not a single word of hate.

The rest should be read and understood with the context, not with the preconceived mindset.

Kindly study Quran once more, and make up your notes accordingly afresh.

Thanks

First of all the Catechism of the Catholic Church states quite clearly:
“The plan of salvation also includes those who aknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims, these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”
Furthermore, in regards to all religions the catechism says this"
“All nations form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth, and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city…”

But my most important point is that by hating Muslims you are perpetuating a neverending circle of hate. You think you are so persecuted and hated, well they are too! Jesus taught us to love one another, EVEN our enemies. Especially our enemies, because if you love only those who love you, what reward have you? Even a murderer has someone whom he loves.
I have had the privalege to meet many muslims and all have been very kind and understanding. It also helps if you read a book on their religion, not just the Koran. The Koran, like the bible can be interpreted anyway one wants to interpret it. And that is exactly what these Muslim extremists do. They misinterpret what the Koran says about defending their faith.
I also happen to remember from history class(does anyone else?) about many Christians killing in the name of God. Let’s see, what have they done? Hmmm…persecuted Muslims, forcibly converted people of various nations in order to trade better, slaughtered countless native americans, hung innocent women as witches. I think that’s enough.
Personally I don’t think this world needs anymore hate, distrust, animosity, and general ill feelings than it already has. Jesus never cursed his enemies. He said on the cross as he was dying “Forgive them father, for they know not what they do.”
Hi

I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim.

I agree with you and appreciate your post. You have a true religious and peaceful mindset. This world needs religious people like you; live and let live. Love for all , hatred for none.

Thanks

I would agree with you 100% were the situation 100% similar. I would even agree if it was 75% the same. If these people were from secular nations where the venom they spew wasn’t protected by corrupt governments, then yes, there would really no good way of getting rid of them until they broke the law. However, the majority of the hate-mongers are in governments that will KILL a person for leaving Islam and imprison (if not kill) those who teach differently. If you are going to be the thought police anyway, and I am not encouraging it, why not police what is being proclaimed as your faith? The Saudi Royal family has been shown to having financial ties to terrorist groups. Then they claim to be on our side. Who should be believe?

Another poster on a different thread has pointed out, more than once, that the problem is added to by a lack of education of Muslim clerics. And who is to blame for that? I know that Islam has no true heirarchy, but there could still be controls set up for who gets to be in charge. Muslims who hear violent talk in Mosques should turn the guilty over to authorities if they are truly against the killing of innocent people. The terrorist factions are too large and well organized not to go unnoticed in the communities forever.

Many of the governements in Muslim nations are corrupt, yet we see no real force for change. I know that these people tend to be brutal when dealing with opposition. That does not mean that the folks under them should just take it as the way it has to be. History is full of stories of those who overthrew a corrupt government. I know that the graves are full of those who have tried, but isn’t the ability to live your life without fear of a corrupt government or fear of terrorism worth the chance?

All to often, Muslims seem to play the victom card. It is the corrupt governments. It is because of colonialism. It is the poverty of the areas. It is the lack of schools. It is the bigotted West that does not see the truth. Why not take responsibility and try to change it? Is it inherent in Islam because of the Slave/Master understnading of God that they feel that they just sit and take it? Is it inherent in Islam that they feel that they have no responsibility in the failures of their countries or their lives?

Like you say those governments are probably on the side of terrorism themselves. Moderate Muslims can’t do anything about all that except condemn it. The USA should be doing more and not play all sides until they are done using people, like with funding Osama to fight Soviets, Saddam with Iran, or Saudis with oil. So a lot of times the government here creates situations like that, they put those guys in power, then scratch their heads when those attack dogs turn on them. Americans can do more to demand change in foreign policy than Muslims alone.

I agree 100% with you on this. I think that the answer is both parties have more to do. I just get tired of all the excuses. Yes, from both sides.

I have struggled in a similar way.

My personal life has given me ample opportunities to make friends with Muslims and others from the Middle East. I love the language and the deep, richness of the culture.

Yet, it is too simple to reach your hand into the vast violence, hate and oppression. It takes no effort and you are soon drowning in fact after fact of atrocities.

One of my (hopefully soon converting) friends said this to me after I talked to him about my troubles regarding this subject:

“Just remember that people were conquered and forced to live a certain way, and that way was handed down generation after generation. It was not our choice and even today is rarely anyone’s choice.”

You don’t have to hate Islamic believers. When you think “Islamic terrorist” you can the the Christian equivalent “Ku Klux Klan” in order to retain some sort of perspective.
The Islamic terrorist is just as representative of Islam as the Ku Klux Klan is of Christianity.

By the way, the basic problem which will never be solved by us poor humans is the fact that Judaism, Christianity and Islam, while coming from the same religious root or background, all define the other two co-religions as heretical. “We all worship the same God, but you two have it all wrong.” As long as this is the case, living peacefully alongside one another is going to be a great challenge.

Matthew

PS Ironic that “Islam” is “the way” in Arabic, n’est ce pas?

True, but the Klan is not supported by any governments. Further, non-Klan Christians have no issue interfering with Klan activities.

There is logic here. Although, I know many Christian groups that do not consider Judaism to be heretical.

I thought “Islam” means “submission.”
