I'm starting to feel hostile towards Islam

Its so wrong, but when I watch the news (albeit from a western perspective), and when I see the over reaction to Pope Benedicts words and obvious misunderstanding, I can’t help but look at these people as simply being nutcases.

I have never had anything against Muslims as I had always felt that the majority are nice people, and that the nutcases are simply minority fanatics. However, where are the level headed Muslims denouncing these clerics who are trying to incite violence? WHERE?

It makes me sick to my stomach, that these whacko’s use God as a reason to kill, and may God keep that poor nun in eternal happiness.

I’m just rambling, and the Muslims I know are all very nice people, so I will never look at them any differently. The stuff thats going on though, is actually proving the Byzantine Emporer right about the teachings of Islam, if this is how they react to someone’s words.

Remember brother, that if you do engage Muslims, to speak the truth in love. Also, your catechism states (825 I think) That Muslims are part of the plan of salvation. I agree that the religion is pretty much baseless, sort of the Mormonism of the 7th century, and that it is easily twisted to the causes of evil men. Nonetheless, it is the religion of a Billion people and so requires our careful study and interaction.

I couldn’t agree more, and it is apparent the vast bulk of Islamic public opinion has cast Pope Benedict squarely into the Bush/Blair camp as the third person in the newly coined so-called “Trinity of Evil”.

To me it appears the battle lines of Armageddon are drawing before our very eyes. Quite the Islamic world and communist remnants (North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and Bolivia), against the democratic Western world, Christianity, Judaism and all other non-Islamic faiths in general. So I wonder which side Russia and China will stand in this?

And when the West and non-Islamic religiosity is defeated, how will Islamic Sharia and Communism coexist on this planet?

Starting to get angry? I am very angry! I go to confession I take before our Lord in prayer and I am still very angry. Remember that the {Moderator removed banned terminology} are only about 10% that still makes up about 100 million wanting us dead. Yes, I agree. I have been struggling with similar sentiments, myself. The Moslems we know tend to be the ones who emigrated to the US in order to live the American Dream. The ones who actually work and live alongside us seem very reasonable. Now that I’m in the UK, I am more frequently exposed to a different sort of Moslem. It’s much harder for a Moslem to come to the US than the UK and so they’re a different sort of people. The ones I’d meet in the US tended to be doctors, engineers and scientists, often of Indian descent. European countries get more of the lower-class and uneducated (although still plenty of doctors, engineers, and scientists. Islamic culture has long been scientifically advanced, nurtering the sciences when we were obsessed with witchcraft and alchemy.)

Those photos are so disturbing. I find their face coverings somehow reminiscient of the KKK…

So let me guess…

Whether directly or indirectly, Moslems taught Galileo how to look to the stars, and Leonardo da Vinci how to compose complex schematics and and realistic paintings? In other words there would be no Renaissance or Enlightenment without the influence of Arabs or Moslem Turks and Moors? If that was the case, please give us a citation.

But there can be no doubt the West had surpassed the Islamic world scientifically and technically since at least the mid 1400s, when the printing press was invented by Europeans. And here is my citation .

Yes, at the time of the Rennaisance, Western Europe passed the Moslem culture. There were several centuries, however, before that where European sciences lagged behind.

Da Vinci and Gallileo wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what they had without the Indian mathmatical system brought into the West by Arabs.

Perhaps you didn’t read my post - the one s/he was responding to. The group with ambitions were those who come to the US to pursue the American Dream. They generally don’t seem interested in destroying the US government or anything like that. As I was saying, I know plenty of perfectly nice Moslems in the US and was contrasting their general social class with the Moslems who emigrate to Western Europe.

Most Islamic people in the US (at least that I have seen), are pretty relaxed. In other words they are backsliden from middle eastern extreme standards of devotion. They seem happy to abide under US constitutional law since they can without fear of death inside the US. We need to give every Islamic person the benefit of the doubt and not assume they are trying to errect an empire inside our country. Most just want to be left alone that come here.

As a Catholic parent when your child starts to go to Mass on Sunday and pray the rosary daily then you are happy and the child is likely to become a better person.

As a Muslim parent when your son begins to go to Mosque, prays daily, wears middle eastern clothing, denounces the infidel etc. then it’s time to become nervous. He isn’t becoming a better person. Notice how many of the terrorists became that way only after they embraced religion. We aren’t talking just a few whacko’s, but thousands that are on the streets now calling the Pope a “stupid pig”.

Funny how that is not the stance of CAIR whose leaders have publicly stated that their aim is to make the US into a sharia state. Omar Ahmad, co-founder of CAIR, said this:

“Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”

I find that highly offensive but I don’t burn mosques or effigies of Omar Ahmad or kill Muslimahs in protest.

You don’t want to feel hostile dont feed that. But one must be realistic when a Catholic. Catholicism incites violence by it’s nature. If the world is violent and comes in contact with peace it reacts violently. Which is why Christ was crucified. He brought God’s peace. And he got nailed to a cross. The Pope speaks of peace and the world threatens to assassinate him. Reminds me of the time a person during an audience went into a sudden rage and had to have an impromptu exorcism by the Pope right in front of the reporters. Happens. Part of being Catholic. Used to bother me. My husband has noticed that some people simply go into a rage as soon as Catholics walk into a room. Happens. If people are not reacting violently to words of peace then the Church is not properly speaking peace. Sorry. Just the way it is. The Church is called to be outrageous and scandalous. We are called to speak Christ’s peace and hold up a pathetic crucifix, something those who live by the sword hate and fear. I have always thought it was because those who live by the Crucifix hand over all control of their lives to God and those who live by the sword refuse to let God interfere. Maybe.

First of all the Catechism of the Catholic Church states quite clearly:
“The plan of salvation also includes those who aknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims, these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”
Furthermore, in regards to all religions the catechism says this"
“All nations form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth, and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city…”

But my most important point is that by hating Muslims you are perpetuating a neverending circle of hate. You think you are so persecuted and hated, well they are too! Jesus taught us to love one another, EVEN our enemies. Especially our enemies, because if you love only those who love you, what reward have you? Even a murderer has someone whom he loves.
I have had the privalege to meet many muslims and all have been very kind and understanding. It also helps if you read a book on their religion, not just the Koran. The Koran, like the bible can be interpreted anyway one wants to interpret it. And that is exactly what these Muslim extremists do. They misinterpret what the Koran says about defending their faith.
I also happen to remember from history class(does anyone else?) about many Christians killing in the name of God. Let’s see, what have they done? Hmmm…persecuted Muslims, forcibly converted people of various nations in order to trade better, slaughtered countless native americans, hung innocent women as witches. I think that’s enough.
Personally I don’t think this world needs anymore hate, distrust, animosity, and general ill feelings than it already has. Jesus never cursed his enemies. He said on the cross as he was dying “Forgive them father, for they know not what they do.”
