Hi everyone. I’m 18 years old and I’m trying to overcome masturbation. Even though I’m aware it’s immoral, I do it anyway. I always try to convince myself that it is not because God has no problem with it, but nothing could be further from the truth. I cannot get past a week every time I go to confession. I’m tired of asking forgiveness for the same sin and I blame myself. If only I never learned it! I need your help.

God always gives one the grace needed to overcome any temptation. This means that one can overcome the temptation to masturbate. The best way to do this is by prayer, fasting, and mortification. When one is tempted to masturbate, immediately call on the Mother of God for help - I recommend the Rosary (at least 5 decades per day). One should also avoid the occasions of this sin. I also recommend cold showers as a way to mortify oneself.

You need to get rid of whatever media device you’re using to aid you committing this act. Stop making access to aid you so easy. Everyone here has been guilty of this act just like you. You absolutely can live life free of masterbation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can stop. Don’t listen to any thoughts that have to do this.
Be free.

I’ll just add make sure you get plenty of exercise, walking or running etc…spend more time outdoors and also be in the company of people you might be living with .
Praying for your intentions OP.

I battled this. I prayed the novena of Mary, untier of knots. I have not had a problem since. I also pray a rosary every night and a Divine Mercy before work. Pray endlessly. It is hard.

Here are some tips that helped me overcome this sin:
  1. Praying constantly (every time you feel/think of it say a rosary or read scripture).
  2. Always be aware of what your watching so that you can avoid triggering any thoughts or feelings.
  3. Focusing on God. (for me, the more I seek holiness and do what he wants the less I want to offend him.
I hope this helps, I’m praying for you.

These devotions helped you, that is wonderful!

I would not want our poster to feel that something is wrong with him/her should they not have the same results from exercising these devotions. They are not a guarantee of ending sinful habits.

You are young ,you can overcome this early and stop it from affecting your future life as it can impact marriage ,keep you distant from Gods grace.
God bless and all the best.
