I'm sure this has happened to others as well

You commit to doing something, like making a novena, saying the rosary more often, going to daily Mass and the devil tries to do everything to stop you on your path. For instance, this month will begin at my parish the 9 first fridays devotion and the 5 first saturdays devotion in honor of our Blessed Mother and I really want to participate; it would be the first time. And I thought to myself that if I can’t complete for whatever reason the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, at least I can do the first 5 saturdays. And later this day I got a phone call from one of my friends that I was supposed to meet tuesday or wednesday and she told me she changed plans and wants get together this satuday evening, when I was supposed to go to church…and I can’t ask her to change plans again because it’s not just about me…it’s so annoying and I haven’t even started my novenas yet  I can just hope I will be able to make it in time and do both or go at the other Mass very early in the morning…

For either 9 first Fridays or 5 first Saturdays, you can always do it on your own. It will be nice to join a group and do them all together, but if you cannot, you can do them on your own.

But one is required to receive communion on the actual day.

Tell your friend you’re sorry, but you can’t make it because it’s First Saturday and you have to be at church.

Or change the time that you two had decided to get together.

It took my grandma decades - no I’m not talking about the Rosary - to finally make the Nine First Fridays; things just kept coming up. So don’t be discouraged. Go to Mass if and when you can, knowing that if you are obedient to God’s will and trust blindly in His Providence, everything will work out for the best.
