So recently I have been thinking about leaving the Catholic church. I am a cradle Catholic and never thought about leaving up until the last few years. My wife is not Catholic but we did have our two children ages 2 and 4 baptized Catholic.

I must admit my faith has been pretty and I have not been the greatest Catholic since my teen years probably due to a lot of tough situations in my life.

My cousin attends a southern baptist church with a non-denominational feel. The pastor’s speech was very good and he put it in a real life perspective. They also have daycare for our young children so they can socialize and learn about Jesus. When we go to a Catholic church we usually don’t get to hear anything because we are constantly taking the kids out because they can’t sit still.

Sadly I feel a little bored with Catholicism compared the church i recently visited. Other things that are pushing me away is the sexual abuse by the priest and more so the cover up that took place. I’ve also attend some masses recently where the priest put their political views in their homily which really didn’t set well with me.

How well do you know your Catholic faith? It seems to me that before you leave your faith you should know exactly what you are leaving and why you are leaving it.

Before you decide, perhaps you should do some studying and reading about the faith.

I agree. Look into what the Church teaches and why.

For me, one of the biggest reasons to remain Catholic is the Eucharist. The Eucharist either really is the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity of Jesus, or it is just a piece of bread that Catholics idolatrously worship.

If the Eucharist really is Jesus, then I can put up with lackluster homilies and squirmy children. I can’t literally receive Jesus into my body at some other Christian church down the road.

I totally agree. This can happen anywhere when a person abuses their power over a vulnerable group of people.

Does your parish offer a subscription to “Formed.org”??? If not, they do give a free trial and then it is about like Netflix or any other monthly subscription service.

Learning your faith is vital.

Imagine how boring a (insert your favorite sporting event or game) would be if you did not understand it. Now, apply that to something as important as your Faith!

Every parish in my town has a nursery for babies/toddlers. If your parish needs one, speak up! Do you want more opportunities for fellowship at your parish? Speak up! Attend what is offered now, even if it is a monthly pancake breakfast.

Want inspiring speakers? Watch CatholicTV.com or the above mentioned Formed.org.

One should never be bored at Mass.Jesus was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected many years ago. But is Jesus still physically present on earth? YES! He is at the mass in the Real Presence of the Eucharist, and you can find him nowhere else except the Catholic Church. Dont apostatize this One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church! Learn more about the Church and the Mass!

Just remember that worship is more than a good 45 minute sermon.
When we go to a Catholic church we usually don’t get to hear anything because we are constantly taking the kids out because they can’t sit still.
Liturgy is the worship of the community. I know that many Protestant churches have “children’s church” but it is best that they are part of the community during worship.
Sadly I feel a little bored with Catholicism compared the church i recently visited.
Again, I know some good contemporary Christian music and a good sermon can be attractive but is that real worship of God?
Other things that are pushing me away is the sexual abuse by the priest and more so the cover up that took place.
I get this, but this is a human problem, not a “Catholic” problem.

Do you have any Byzantine Catholic Churxhes in your area? There is much more to the Byzantine Catholic Church than just the liturgy (difference in theology, lectionary, spiritual and prayer life) but maybe that’s what your family needs. Message me if you have any questions. I’m Byzantine Catholic.

Let’s say you loved baseball and loved going to games. Then you heard on the news that despicable men came in as coaches to gain access to young boys, would you quit going to baseball games?

Predator men saw an opportunity to hide in the priesthood and enjoy a trusted leadership role to gain access to vulnerable young men. It was in their interest to keep things hidden so they could continue on without penalty. This happens everywhere there are young boys.

As a Catholic, I am going to receive the Bread of Life. I am still on this journey and it’s hard. What would I do without Jesus in the Eucharist? It would be like being lost at sea holding on to a floating board, tossed about by the waves.

A Catholic who is plugged into the Mass, who brings all their joys and sorrows of the week, and offers prayers for the conversion of sinners and peace in this world as our Blessed Mother asked at Fatima, that person is impacting the world. We need you to be plugged in. We need you in the game.
God bless you.

You can find many sermons from the saints over a variety of topics.

True!

I’m sorry to hear you are feeling that way. But I beg you not to go. Get involved and see what happens. If you don’t like the parish you are at, try a different one.

I don’t think leaving is the right thing to do…you are using your emotions to make this decision (going somewhere where you hear what you want to hear and what makes you happy vs hearing the truth and the mass as God established)

You problem is all too familar. But I find that the people that leave the Catholic church were never properly catechized AND evangelized.

Let me end by asking you a few questions…if you go to your wife’s church, when did it originate? How far back can you trace it? And are you ready to break the oath to God that you took on the day you baptized your children? How is your prayer life and your relationship with Jesus? Will you miss the Eucharist?

Yes! I was just about to mention formed. Message me BinTN if you need login info. I would recommend watching the 3 part series called “Presence”

Please do not leave. Eventually your children will get older and learn to behave better at Mass.
I believe that kids are better served to be with their parent at Mass, not in a church run daycare.
Also, the Catholic Church is a great church. Catholicism is anything, but boring.
Mass is where we go to give glory and praise to God through prayer and song. We are not there to be entertained by a pastor’s speech.
Please stick with the Catholic Church. I will pray for you. 🙏🙏🙏

Please speak to a priest. The Catholic Church is the one true Church Jesus founded. Don’t let evil people stray you away from God, because that’s Satan’s work. Satan tries to make you leave the Church. Stick with the Catholic Church!

Very good way to put it. I agree, I’d probably still watch baseball if that was the case if I loved the sport.

If you think Catholicism is boring, then you need to read up more about it.

Some parishes do a children’s Liturgy of the Word where they leave to discuss the reading separately during the regular Liturgy of the Word. I suggest looking around at other parishes in the area to see what they offer.

It’s difficult to tell what you mean by the priest inserting their political views into a homily. Some people consider priests insisting on voting pro-life to be “too political for Mass.” But, if he is regularly inserting inappropriate things into the homily, I’d say write to the bishop or find another parish.

EDIT: also, Bishop Robert Barron puts out homilies online you can listen to every week on his Word on Fire website. He is a very smart man and excellent speaker.

Well my wife was raised non-demo national but when we married she was totally on board with going to Catholic church and raising the kids Catholic. The church we went to was just a suggestion by my cousin who is also a Catholic and went to Catholic school his whole life. His wife is Baptist so he went down her path.

Here’s a question: If Jesus appeared to you undoubtably so and said “The Catholic Church is my Church that I built upon Peter. The baptist one isn’t.”

Would you still feel a draw to the baptist Church?

What I’m asking is do you want the truth? Regardless if it means joining the baptist church or continuing in Catholicism.
