The term I couldn’t remember is “ephebophile” - attraction to a post-pubescent boy or girl. The distinction is important to understand the real concern of a priest with SSA. It has nothing , I repeat, nothing to do with pedophilia.

Honestly, people really do freak out too much over the “sex scandal.” There were like two priests who molested kids back in the 70’s and people are all freaking out.
There are more non-priest pedophiles than priest pedophiles.

How can one lead a flock if one will (with all caps) post such a personal thing in a forum with 20,000 members. I mean no disrespect to your dignity but this very post may be something to consider from the standpoint of potential leadership. Does this post indicate priest material or should these rantings have been kept private or confessed? I dont think your evil, and gay people do far less sins than a great many heterosexuals. But can you lead? I find this post troubling.

When I was 16, I had struggles in my life as well. Ryan’s frustration will calm down as he learns more about himself and what the Church teaches.
I suggest to EVERYONE to really look into The Theology Of the Body. It has helped me.

Many, many saints and holy priests have made known their sins and use those sins as an element of their ministry.

What has leadership to do with the public pronouncement of one’s trials? Psychologically speaking people give more credence to those who have experienced what they teach about. This argument is not a good one…

Your litmus test for priestly qualifications is very, very narrow if you hold that a single post can wreck it… no one would be a priest under such a crushing, unfair standard. You are getting many good responses on the this thread. I hope they are helpful to you. I, however, must take exception to the example that you gave. If ANYONE under the age of consent has sex with anyone OVER the age of consent, it is bad, wrong, illegal, etc. The older person should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Most heterosexuals are not initiated into sex by someone many years older than them.

I never said this was a litmus test, my comment was in regards to this single post as food for thought. As in this post only not ones whole ability to both improve or grow. I see no issue with my taking issue with the fact that the whole post was in caps followed by the I want to be a priest comment.
The main point here is that I was saying that if you want to be a priest you can start by not doing ‘this’. I did not realize that the poster was sixteen so there is plenty of time for him to grow in Christ. I certainly hope he does. I also hope he can overcome this SSA he is dealing with in a public forum.
I must however stand behind my position that this is not the place to pronounce ones personal sexual hang-ups in life. I feel this sort of thing is better left for private council be it gay or straight. I dont feel that this is a dignified environment for one to post about such seriously personal issues as anyone can read it and anyone can post. Would anyone here encourage a 16 year old to post this thread and include there sexual hangups with regards to future vocation in the priesthood? Maybe I’m wrong but I would not.

I never called Ryan evil, my comment was to assure him that he was not being judged and that heterosexuals can do far worse. You might do well to remember that typed text intentions are better questioned then assumed.
I never said he was not able to be a leader, I asked him if he could lead. That is an important quality in a priest and may be something to think over as one explores vocation in prayer.
I think you did read it quite wrong. I have stated in other threads that I have even employed gay people and that they make fine employees. I can assure you that if a heterosexual had done a huge rant in all caps followed by saying I want to be a priest I would have questioned it as well.

Your focus on your “affliction” is just what the evil one wants. I also have had homosexual desires since the age of about 9 or 10, but to dwell on the temptation or say “I suffer from” is giving the evil one too much credit.
Jesus said resist the devil & he will flee from you.
Is it really that hard? If it is then you need to increase your prayer life.
What the world refuses to realize is that homosexaulity (whether in thought or in action) is a SPIRITUAL DISEASE (sin basically) & is not biological. If it were biological then God would not have said it is a sin. It’s desires of the flesh, the flesh lusting against the Spirit as St. Paul has said.
Any person that claims to be homosexual (whether living the life of one or not) is under the influence of the evil one & is not living the life of the Gospel. You can not serve God & your own desires, you must serve one or the other.
If it is Gods’ Holy Will that you would enter into the priesthood then you would need to “deny your very self” as Christ said. If the temptaions are so severe that your fall into despair then you need to seek spiritual guidance from a person that is truly walkng with The Lord.
“Gay” priest are evil because they seek to make a liar out of God by claiming to be “gay” & yet still attempt to serve God & His Church. YOU CAN NOT SERVE BOTH GOD & YOUR OWN DESIRES.

- The dopamine that is fired off in the brain is so addictive that during this act the subject becomes addicted to the dopamine and therefore the act(s) that drive(s) its firing. This is a very, very real biological function and one that is in the addiction category, which as any Catholic who can read the CCC knows that addiction mitigates the sin.
- There is evidence that a not insignificant number of subjects who suffer from SSA have a genetic predisposition to SSA and its acts. This is also a very real biological connection.
