Lost Sheep,
I am very sorry you had to hit such a painful bottom two moths ago. But, I am very happy to read you have made some serious improvements in your life. I have two favorite prayers that might be of help:
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me…
The Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The Courage to change the things I can, and
The Wisdom to know the difference.
Your consideration of possibly retiring seems to follow that prayer.
My other favorite:
LET GO AND LET GOD!
As children bring their broken toys
with tears for us to mend,
I brought my broken dreams to God,
because He was my friend.
But then, instead of leaving Him,
in peace, to work alone;
I hung around and tried to help,
with ways that were my own.
At last, I snatched them back and cried,
“How can you be so slow?”
“My child,” He said,
“What could I do?
You never did let go.”

To anyone doubting God’s purpose,
God created all of us in His image & likeness…He has a purpose for each of us to fulfill on earth before we earn our way to Heaven. God’s plan & purpose for our lives are perfect. He gave us the gift of free will, which means He must trust us enough to return back to Him for the good of strengthened souls. To know & love God by striving to do whatever He asks of us…His will will happen/be done (above our selfish wants & desires) which is not based on feeling, but rather through selfless acts of love & kindness in more ways than one…such as serving others in our community (learning to care for others is so simple, yet to most is so hard to do). When we focus less of ourselves (our struggles, fears, material wants, pleasing others, etc) & focus more on Him who created us, we find contentment in knowing that whatever happens, He will take care of us.
I can say this, because it happened to me…used to doubt ‘God’s will be done’ & couldn’t bring myself to say it in prayer, afraid of Him making me do things I didn’t want to do…when I did this, I turned into selfishness & became distant with God far than I planned. How did I change?..went to reconciliation, got involved in a new church, found great catholic friends, serve others through service (non-profit organizations: St. Vincent de Paul, interpret for a Deaf man, give food to the homeless, etc). None of this was my plan, but His. I didn’t wait for God to fit into my schedule, I made time for Him by doing good ideas that I thought would help me be a better person (His spirit guided me, they weren’t my ideas), which in turn steered me closer to Him. I don’t regret having made the choice to live only for Him, it erases the fears I used to live by. Nowadays, I pray to God for His will be done…He knows us more than we know ourselves. Let Him take care of you the way you deserve to be cherished & loved. Give Him the pen to your life with an open heart & I promise you, you won’t regret it. Since He created us in His image & likeness, what makes you think He created fear for you to not let Him love you?.
