Dear @Timba15 -

You e already raised essentially the same question a couple of days ago. The answers aren’t much different; you’ll have to consult local groups of women religious. Meanwhile, we can pray for you here.

Convent life for permanent residency

Dear Timba,

My heart goes out to you, in your desire to be near the Lord as you continue to age and going to be in need of care in the future. I would recommend you look into the Little Sisters of the Poor HERE

I recommend this Order of nuns because I had personal experience with them when my dear Mother became in need of care, and none of us were in a position to give her all the care she needed. She was on a waiting list for a few months but that was truly God’s provision, because when the Sisters finally had an opening, my mother could appreciate even more the big difference between being in a place run by the nuns rather than being in a “secular” residence . The Nuns lived at the same Residence but in a different wing of the same building.

Mom had daily Mass and Rosary and a chapel she could visit. She also had a library stocked with good books; Mom loved to read. When I visited her I learned that the woman who managed the Library also lived there. So I hope if you contact them and explain your situation, they may be willing to help you and may have a place near your present location. If you are able to work in some capacity, cleaning or in the kitchen perhaps, as this lady worked in the Library, that may give you the peace you are seeking. They are an international Order of Religious and it is one I certainly would recommend you contact to find out what might be possible for you.

My experience was many years ago but looking at their website, I was happy to see they looked the same as they did years ago when I first met them. I am very grateful to the Lord for guiding our family to the “Queen of Peace” Home for my Mom run by the Little Sisters. I will keep you in my prayers that the Lord will provide what you need to remain close to Him. Praying to Our Lady will surely help. My mother prayed the Rosary and had great devotion to Our Lady. 🙂

As others have suggested you may also want to call the Diocesan Office in your area to see if they can help. If you are interested in actually joining a religious order to live in a convent, I’m not sure they would accept one who is too elderly, but they may make exceptions. It is worth investigating.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. Jesus we trust in You!
