Okay so not to get into my story too much but I was Catholic growing up then became Mormon then catholic then mormon then back to being Catholic.

Anyway I met the Duggar Family (the one that has 17 almost 18 kids) and well I don’t know why but I feel like may be I am not ‘saved’ being Catholic.

I mean they have sooo many blessings and I feel like God is missing out on me. I sound sooo weird typing this but I don’t know I feel very very lost…

I am glad that you are Home! Your returning Home is one of the most blessings you have got in your spiritual life. What kinds of blessing would you consider to be a blessing?

Being granted with many “blessings” or not much of “blessings” are not necessary the indicator of one being “saved”.

Don’t forget to work out your work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

Are we to measure the blessings we receive in this life or the next? Contemplate that question.

This isn’t to say that the Duggar family is receiving their blessings in this life as a bad thing. But what it does mean is that those that suffer in this life and have been faithful servants of God despite the trials will also be blest in heaven.

Does being Catholic prohibit you, or anyone, from having the same blessings that you see the Duggar Family having?

Leftovers.

Sometimes I call them hauntings, old beliefs and ideas that come around and mess up my thinking. Usually, mine are of the atheist kind. Though, Mormon leftovers would be why I was an atheist.

It’s ok, and normal, really. It is desiring something, though, are you really jonesing for 18 children? OK, if you are but wow!

The health and wealth gospel of Mormonism isn’t where Truth is found. The flip side is, believing God has abandoned you and not blessing you with children because you aren’t “worthy”. Do you really want to go there? Or maybe, that is where you have gone.

I’m sure someone like zerinus could come around and confirm this for you.

Don’t believe it. God loves you.

There is no Peter, there is no Paul, only Christ.

If you have been seeking Christ, who is it that keeps shutting doors in your face, saying “Nope, he isn’t here - keep looking.”?

If you seek him you will find him, be it in an empty lot or up a tree.
The one who wishes you dead and rotting in the earth will give you many things if you follow him. He will slowly take them back before he kills you.
I could give you money, a nice home (and let you keep them), and deal with your problems for you, but I am not your savior. Would you think I am if I did these things? My blessings?

Who is it that whispers in your ear “you are not saved”?

You will only be saved if you wish it - if you do then he will come where you are - you won’t have to go elsewhere seeking him.

Do you truly want to be saved? What holds you back?

God bless you.

Well, you’re right, you are NOT SAVED BEING CATHOLIC, rather, Catholics ARE BEING SAVED. It’s a process. I can introduce you to large Catholic families who also have MANY BLESSINGS…my own for example.

I think it goes beyond that with the Duggars they are debt free, have children, lots of love and talk about God’s blessings all the time

I guess they are the ghosts in my life that will never leave- those thoughts I thought would go away. But sometimes I sit in mass and go may be i’m not supposed to be HERE may be I should be in a mormon church or a baptist church. Everyone talks of being saved and I don’t know… Where is the line of being saved.

Then I think I’m not a good enough Catholic. Did I say my prayers enough, rosiaries etc…

It is horrible how my brain works

I’m trying to get out of debt and well the duggars swear that the finanical freedom seminar from Bill Gothards IBLP is the best. The book is 100 dollars. I got a catholic type finacial book and now I feel like it was wrong to get the cheaper book.

Okay now I’m not making sense.

I guess all in all i’m worried

remember what Jesus tells us he told me all the rich people that did not lead a good life and did not help others I say to you that you have already received your reward here on earth. don’t worry about what blessings others they appear to have just lead a good Christian life following the commandments to the best of your ability.

Oh my word - are you talking the salvation of a Benny Hinn?

Oh Lord, give me wealth.

Do you want financial freedom, or unity with Christ? If it is the former, then I understand why you feel conflicted.

God isn’t a banker.

God bless you

Debt sucks. I just consolidated a bunch myself and hope to be debt free in a couple of years. Barring any catastrophes! yikes.

Financial planner is what you need. Are you participating in a workplace 401(k)? If so, they usually offer financial planning for free. If you are in college, you can usually get free financial planning there as well.

And yes, I suck at being a disciple of Christ myself. Someone told me recently they did too, and aren’t we glad that we have a kind a forgiving Master?

Scrupulosity isn’t good. The opposite is believing that there is no sin at all. That’s usually where I go.

I have to work at finding the middle way. 🙂 Praying for help with that…that is what I recommend. And I’ll pray for you too.

“Financial freedom” Christianity is false, and if you follow it you are definitely not saved.
I watched one of these fellows tell me that if I sent him a thousand dollars, I would be blessed with a ten fold increase.
I tried him out, but marked the check “for orphan relief”.

He sent me a letter affirming I would get my “seed” gift.
Man was he right!

I got an email from Nigeria telling me I was going to get 25 million dollars!

If it ever turns out that fellow used my money for other than orphan relief I hope the IRS gets him - before the devil does.
Yes Benny Hinn, I mean you.

God bless you all

Look kiddo, I appreciate where you’re coming from but you’re looking at this wrong. One doesn’t acheive salvation by praying enough or saying rosaries. In fact, you can be a very good Catholic and NEVER recite the rosary…neither Peter nor Paul ever recited the rosary and they were amongst the best Catholics. Salvation is about surrender to Christ and then witnessing that in your daily life. Sometimes God has great blessings in store for us, sometimes great trials…none of our great saints in the Church had easy lifes even when they were most obedient.

I myself attempt to follow the Dave Ramsey version of get out of debt.

Being a good Christian doesn’t mean we don’t sometimes make boneheaded mistakes like buying more home than we can afford or switching jobs at the wrong time…and suffering because of the mistakes we make doesn’t mean that God isn’t blessing us…but sometimes God wants us to go through these trials to grow.

Being “saved” in the Protestant understanding is having accepted Jesus as your personal savior and having assurance that if you die today you will go to heaven. The Catholic equivalent is that if you receive the Sacraments, avoid serious (mortal) sin, and die in a state of grace (not in mortal sin), you will go to heaven. )Keep in mind the three conditons of mortal sin, which essentially means you are choosing to reject God’s love.) Neither of those concepts have anything to do with blessings in this life. In fact, what we see as “blessings” are somewhat biased by our perspective. Having the gift of God’s love operating in our life, whether it be through great joys or great suffering is all blessing. We can’t judge God’s love by the measure of what we perceive to be blessings in this life. God gives each of us exactly what we need to reach heaven.

If someone said to me “you have sinned and your sin has separated you from God and if your sin isn’t forgiven you will be eternally separated from God but I know a person who can forgive your sin and give you eternal life”. Do you think I would want to find out who this person is and ask him to forgive me my sin and give me eternal life?

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23

Only the Lord Jesus can “save” sinners from eternal separation from God in hell, only the Lord Jesus can give sinners eternal life.

Peoples “good works” or “religion” can never give them eternal life or save them from eternal separation from God in hell.

Knowing you are sick doesn’t cure you of your sickness. Its the same with knowing you are a sinner, this won’t save you from eternal separation from God. Only faith in the Lord Jesus Christ can save you from eternal separation from God in hell and only He can give you eternal life.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Eph 2:8-9

Reality check: you didn’t get into debt without some kind of collateral, so you’re already richer than 90% of the rest of the people in the world, and at least one third of them believe in Jesus. So, congratulations - you’re rich. 🙂

Getting back out of debt is a math problem and a resources problem; not (primarily) a faith problem. You can talk to Jesus about the wise use of the resources you have, but you should also talk to a banker about these things.

You probably have a financial advisor at your bank; find out who it is, and get a meeting with him or her to discuss your situation. He or she will be able to give you some ideas about how to manage your current debt, and how to put together a plan for getting out of debt.

Have you read the book of Job? He loses everything but keeps his faith. It is a great story about trusting in God and persevering.

I recommend the book, “At Sea with God”. by Margaret Silf.

(I wish someone would call me “kiddo”.)
