are we now created in the image and likeness of God.Surely our image and likeness is flawed by the Fal.Surely a flawed image and likeness is no longer an image and likeness. So now are we not created in the fallen and flawed image and likeness of Adam and as temples in ruins showing forth the glory that once was ours - twinc

IF that were true, why would the Gospel repeat that we are to see ourselves as in God’s image? It is through Christ’s power that the mirrors of our hearts are burnished to reflect Him more faithfully. But only those who avail themselves of that power will benefit from it.

1 Corinthians11:7 **For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: **

2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Hebrews 1:1-3 KJV God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom He hath appointed Heir of all things, by Whom also He made the worlds; Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express Image of His Person…

Colossians 1:15 Who is the Image of the invisible God, the Firstborn of every creature…

2 Corinthians 3:18 **But we all, with open face beholding, as in a glass, the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the LORD.

May your hearts become clear and pure like unto polished mirrors in which may be reflected the full glory of the Sun of Truth.** (Abdu’l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 95)

We were made in the Beginning, which is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. He is love, God’s love sent into the world.

Were were made in the image and likeness of God, again the Second Person of the Trinity, Col. 1: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:.

Jesus is the image of God and we were made in the image and likeness of God.

God is love. God is absolute beauty.

Our souls are made in, of and by love and beauty.🙂

perhaps one may care to see that we are made in the fallen image of Adam at Gen.5:3.To say or accept that we are, instead of were, made in the image and likeness of God whilst being great for our ego doesnt say much for God - we are as temples in ruins but still showing forth the glory that once was ours in Adam as man - btw the hope is this glory will once more be yours - twinc

twinc: Do you mean that we get sick and old and die, are subject to accident, injustice, selfishness etc? “Every soul shall taste of death” Everything composed will decompose. That is not our heart and soul. Dust to dust and spirit? …back to where it came from.
Right? Are you feeling pessimistic? 🙂

Yes - but in the beginning it was not so and shall not be so at the end"for there shall no more be tears,or aging or dying - so guess who threw a spanner into the works - twinc

Here is what I wrote in my commentary on Genesis

We are in the image of God by means of our souls, which are immortal and spirit. Tertullian [Against Maricon 5.7] expands this also of the relation to the Son and Holy Spirit: “the Son on the one hand, who was one day to put on human nature; and the Spirit on the other, who was to sanctify man.”

Man was created in the image and likeness of God. This means that man was created with an intellect to know truth and a will to choose to act in goodness. Adam’s sin weakened our intellect and our will, but it doesn’t change the fact that we were created with that image and likeness.

Glory is not for man but for God. All that we do is not for our glory as individuals or as humanity, but for God alone.

We are redeemed by Christ on the cross, and this gives us the hope of salvation. Follow Christ, receive the sacraments, pray for ever-growing holiness, and you will have strength to avoid temptation and the repentance to return to Christ when you do falter.

I like this jpjd! The polished mirror is selfless, reflecting the sun’s glory!

whoo, whoo slow down one stage at a time instead of jumping from presumption to presumption. So you do say and seem to agree that man was created not is created still in the image and likeness of God - We will come to the idea of freewill, ability to choose or chosen, unspoilt intellect etc bye and bye - meanwhile ponder “in Him we move and live and have our being”[Acts.17:28] - twinc

Was created, is created…same thing. The human race was created (was, as in, brought into existence by God beginning with Adam and Eve), and the human race has procreated ever since. All humans ever in existence in the past, currently in existence in the present, and who will be in existence in the future, exist the same: with a human nature, a human nature which has intellect and will.

That intellect and will is the image and likeness of God. We were made to know and to love like God knows and loves.

Original sin caused a weakness of our bodies where our minds are distracted from knowing the truth of God and our wills are distracted from choosing the love of God, but the powers to know and love are still there. It is how we were made. It is our human nature.

Some mysterious method and purpose of God rasied us up to know and love Him, to worship and serve Him.
I see plants and animals just obey God’s will; but He wants to see if we will, of our own volition. Not being able to perceive realities beyond their senses the animal has no ground for believing in the invisible Maker and His invisible worlds Hereafter, but we can!
