Imagine that you are now the pope. What are the top three things that you would change about the Church?

it is obvious you see the poor and the orphans all over the world and you close your eyes as you pass by,and wont listen to them , what would make you stop to listen to me?
Exactly how is it obvious?

Please provide your evidence.

see, the problem we have here is i am willing to take care of the poor by any means, and you are not.
I don’t think ST is saying that we shouldn’t do everything we can to take of the poor. The problem is that the poor have needs beyond the physical. That is, we should be ministering to them and bringing the Gospel into their lives with every act of charity that we do for them. Man does not live on bread alone. They need the Word of God, which is living bread, and which sustains them when other bread fails to satisfy. Art is needed to spread the Gospel – it is a means by which the Life and Passion of Christ can be communicated to people. It reminds them of the beauty and majesty of Heaven…

I have another question: should we abolish all government funding of the arts and use that money to take care of the poor?

In Christ,

Back on topic

1 - all masses, throughout the world, regardless, to be celebrated in latin only.

2 - compulsory fasting on Fridays and holy days

3 - liturgy of the hours to be prayed by all families together - with a little attitude on the timings 😃

Why should we listen to you? I believe Christ had something to say about splinters and beams.

Moreover, if the Church were to try to sell all these things, accumulated over 1000 years or more, would it not require people to buy them… and divert money away from the helping of the poor?
moses got the same arguement from the israelites in the desert. jesus turned to his disciples and said do want to leave me as well?you will have to answer this for yourselves.

You ain’t Jesus nor are you Moses. Get real.

Should we maybe start a new thread to discuss the issue of wealth (inlcuding ‘institutional wealth’) and the poor and such so we are not hijacking this one?

You know what, I’ve been keeping a bit of an eye on what you keep saying with regards to this but now I’m a little irked.

With all due respect, I find your proposals ludicrously sappy.

Following your reasoning, the President of the United States shouldn’t be living in the extravagant White House, nor should he have his own private jet. For is it not the duty of a nation’s leader to sacrifice all for his people?

Yet why is it you choose to focus only on the Vatican and its collection?

Double standard anybody?
the thread is if you were imaginary pope, not president, what 3 things would you change. keep your eye on the ball. the presidency is a whole new ball game.but you can start a thread if its okay with these guys. dont get mad over words, be strong in the lord and the power of his might…for we do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but against pricipalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places…iron sharpens iron…but if the words convict you, you will have to make a choice on whether heed to them( not me), or choose not to follow them. easy as that.

the presidency is a whole new ball game.
Wrong. The papacy and the presidency are only different in terms of their area (the former religious, the latter political). They both share the same concepts in that they are positions of extremely high authority and leadership. That anyone in either position has extreme responsibilities geared towards the welfare and guidance of the people under their care.

The fact that you would probably not have this same crazy notion had this been an “imagine you are now the president” thread proves that you have a double standard against the Church.

nether is you attitude, so turn and go back to egypt
Gimme a break, you’re putting yourself on the same level as two of the most influential religious figures in history. That’s plain, downright arrogance.

This thread is going off topic and becoming uncharitable. Please stay on topic. Take side discussions to the appropriate fora. And if there is any more sniping at one another, I will close the thread.

That’s Ontario for you. 😉

Here in Calgary, everyone hugs and kisses their friends (including people they have just been introduced to, five minutes ago), and shakes hands with people they have not been properly introduced to. 🤷
Are you sure everyone in a Calgary Catholic church likes to shake hands??
You see here in Toronto, I attend two churches, one during the week and one on Sundays, and the result is the same , no-one does like to shake hands, they do it reluctantly. Down in Florida there are two churches in the same town I attend while down there. In one they act like Ontarions, or Torontonians, while at the other they hug sometimes kiss shake hands and generally go all mushy with strangers on Sunday mornings. It is sickening:D

Change, no. Things I would do…

I would institute an immediate year of prayer, penitence, abstention and extraordinary acts of charity for myself, all clergy and the faithful in reparation for our sins and those of the world outside the Church. This would be repeated as needed.

I would convene Vatican III to evaluate and correct as needed the changes brought on by misunderstandings of Vatican II.

I would strongly encourage catechesis that the faithful might truly know the gift of our faith.

But I am just a mother and grandmother and God probably has better ideas.

Well, probably not everyone - after all, we have a lot of imports from Ontario. But it’s what you see most often, around here. 🙂

As to the OP, since some bishops have failed to take decisive action against “Catholics” who are politically active against everything the Catholic Church stands for, except the love part, I would have an independent Office of Inquisition for the purpose of excommunicating those that are a cancer to the Church.
