I have a question.

According to the Catholic Church, God kept Mary free from sin in her mothers womb by His intervention. Could not God have done this for all of us so He would not have to send Jesus to die for our sins? since all of this was by His grace?

No matter what Jesus would of still had to come to die for Adam and Eve’s sin.

He could have done anything he wanted. But he didn’t. He decided to make it the way that it is. Probably for reasons we will only know when we go to meet Him.

But it is the sacrifice of Christ by which Our Lady was preserved free from the stain of original sin! God is not limited by time. Christ is, after all, the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. His sacrifice was necessary for her purity.

(I dearly love Our Lady, by the way. She is always so kind to me, helping me along as I try to learn more about Christ. 🙂 )

We know God is not limited by time, however could He have not done the same with us as with Mary?🙂

No, because he had to die for the fall of man. Adam and Eve made a choice to sin…if God would of preserved the rest of humanity from the stain of original sin than how would Adam and Eve be saved?

I think that in order to answer how/why Mary was spared from the stain of original sin at her conception, we have to explain how/why we are conceived with original sin in the first place. It is one thing to know that an event takes place, it’s another thing entirely to know how and why it takes place.

I’ve tried to understand the why and how and end up with a big headache. Therefore, I will place this question in the mystery column along with “Who tempted Lucifer to rebel against God?” and “What precisely does π equal to?”

Why do you assume that being immaculately conceived means never sinning?

After all, the very first humans, who had no original sin, both sinned anyway.

The Immaculate Conception is not a matter of necessity. It is a matter of “fittingness.” The Blessed Virgin was so graced by God because it was fitting for his mother to be so graced. The same is not true of the rest of us.

Also, bear in mind that all of humanity was first tested by two representatives – Adam and Eve. It is fitting, therefore, that we be retested by two new representatives – Jesus and Mary.

Sorrow and forgiveness?

Yes! For God knows everyone of us even before we were born.

Sorrow and forgiveness?
Yes but to the OP first question as to why doesn’t God just keeps us all free from the stain of original sin as he did with Mary?.., so that way we wouldn’t need Jesus to die for our sins.

First and foremost being preserved from Original Sin is dependant upon the Sacrifice of Christ. Secondly he had to restore us from the Fall of Man.

Why did God not give Adam and Eve the option for repentence and forgiveness. He could have obliderated original sin at that point.

Why would he** not **have to send Jesus to die for our sins? Most of us would still sin. Mary is unique in that she has no stain from sin, original sin or actual sin. All of us who have achieved the age of reason have actual sin on our souls and so we need Jesus to die for our actual sins in addition to the original sins of Adam and Eve.

And Adam and Eve had already fallen. Even if they repented, their descendants (us) would still have the stain.

Also, Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception was an enormous grace and gift; it was not something that even She deserved.

Are we going to argue because God is generous? He was not obliged to give that grace to Our Lady, any more than He was obliged to save us. Who are we to argue with how it was done?

He did give them the option for repentence and forgiveness, but sin has consequences attached to it. These were the consequences. This is straight Catholic Theology all the way here, and you can see it right from the Beginning in Genesis. Man separated himself from God’s Grace that Christ restored back on the Cross. Christ did so in his perfect Humanity that man lost in the garden…once you make a mistake you are no longer perfect.

Christ did not have the stain of original sin because he is the Son of God. Original sin is imputed through the male line with Adam as the federal head. Since Christ was not of the line of Adam on the male side Adam is not His federal head. The only way Christ could die was willingly, by taking on our sins like he did on the cross. He was blameless and would have lived on earth forever otherwise, because he didn’t have the curse of Adam on him.

He sacrificed His life in atonement for sins. So, he is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

I have a theory for this “fittingness”, and I don’t know if the Catholic Church agrees with this but here goes…

I believe Mary is the spouse of the Holy Spirit.
The Church was the spouse of Christ from the moment of her creation.
Eve was the spouse of Adam from the moment of her creation.
And so, I think it is fitting that Mary was the spouse of the Holy Spirit from the moment of her creation.

Just my thoughts… I don’t know what the Catholic Church thinks about these thoughts… :twocents:

You could be on to something. My take – and this my take, not Church teaching – is that the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption have more to do with the Fourth Commandment. Jesus honored his mother and his Father. He honored his Father by being obedient unto death. He honored his mother by preserving her from sin and from the corruption of the grave.

Who wouldn’t preserve his mother from those things if he had the power?
