The Immaculate Conception is a doctrine of the Church. It says that Mary was conceived without Original sin, by a singular grace from God.

Where might we find support for this in the Bible? Luke 1:28, in the original Greek, for starters.

When the angel appeared to Mary, he addressed her as “full of grace” in the English translation. But this translation doesn’t do full justice to the full meaning of the text. In the ancient Greek (Koine Greek), the word used was “kecharitomene.” This word, used in the sentence in the manner in which it was, means that Mary was “full of grace” from the first moment of her existence (conception) and permanently thereafter. This means that she could not have had Original sin on her soul, because one cannot be “full” of grace and have any sin at the same time. Divine physics, if you will. 🙂

Because Jesus - GOD - was to be born from her and receive His flesh from her, Mary was kept without sin (immaculate = spotlessly clean) from the moment of her conception in her mother’s (Anne) womb). This belief comes from our belief in who Jesus is, not so much from who Mary was.

There are parallels in the Old Testament in that the Ark of the Convenant, which held the 10 Commandments, had to be made of precious materials and in a certain way. it could not be approached or touched except by certain priests. In the same way, Mary was kept holy for Jesus.

This is why Gabriel addresses Mary as “full of grace” when he announces the coming of Jesus.

I should also mention that Mary was kept free from sin by the grace and merits of Jesus. She was saved from sin through Jesus’ sacrifice, like all saved people, but the merits of His sacrifice were applied back in time to Mary. This is possible because God exists outside of time. In the same way Jesus’s single sacrifice applies throughout time, to us in the future and to those in the past.

Get her Scott Hahn’s “Hail Holy Queen.”

Jesus was/is God
As God he is perfect
He was, therefore, a perfect son.
From the eternity of heaven, before she was born He took one look at Satan and said “Keep your cotton pickin fingers off my Momma!”

Here is some more points and Bible verses that can help out

In order to know the teaching of the Immaculate Conception, we must understand the concept of conception.

The teaching of the the Immaculate Conception is talking about when conception truly takes places. It is not looking at the physical conception (when the egg is fertalized and implanted in the womb). Conception in the teaching is talking about when the soul is united with the body.

God preserved her soul in view of her mission. Since her body was procreated by her mother and father (physical conception), Mary was susceptibleto original sin. In order to prevent original sin taking effect, God preserved her soul and sanctifying grace was given to her once her soul infused with her body.

In addition to know what conception is, learning the teaching of Mary being the new Eve and free from personal sin also help understand the teaching (which you can see in that website as well

Here is some Biblical bases of the Immaculate Conception

  1. *]In Genesis 3: 15, God said He would put emnity between Satan and the woman, and her offspring and his offspring. God said He would not let Satan get to the woman and the offspring. All Christians agree that the offspring that is mention is Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ is the offspring, then Mary has to be the woman. If Mary was not immaculate conceived, she would have gotten original sin and Gen 3: 15 would not have been fulfilled.

*]In Romans 5, St. Paul showed Jesus being the new Adam. As one brought death to the world through disobedience (Adam), the other brought life through obedience (Jesus). If jesus is the new Adam, there has to be a new Eve (Mary). Sin enter the world via Eve (a woman that was a virgin and undefiled) saying yes to the serpant (fallen angel) to eat the fruit that God said not to. Salvation enter the world via Mary saying yes to an angel (Gabrial) to be the mother of Jesus Christ. If sin came through a woman that was a virgin and without blemish, there has to be a woman that was also a virgin and undefiled to bring salvation into the world

*]In Exodus 25, God instructed to build the ark of the Old Covenant with pure gold. Hebrew 9 says within the ark were the Commandments from God to Moses (tablet of the covenant; Word of God), manna that was given to the people of Israel when they were traveling 40 years in the desert after being freed from the bondage in Egypt (bread of life), and the staff of Aaron (the High Priest staff). The ark was used to transport these holy objects from one place to another. These objects prefigured Jesus because He is the incarnated Word of God, the Bread of Life, and the High Priest of the New Covenant. If the those holy objects in the Old Covenant were being transported to another place in an ark made of pure gold, Jesus must be brought into the world through a woman made of pure flesh. That is why we call Mary the Ark of the New Covenant.
