Do we help those desperately in need who may or may not be here illegally? I know that in some cases the Church has been helpful in some of these cases. Many times these people do not know our customs,law enforcement laws,etc. so they are frightened and alone. I know that God is the Good Shepherd and protects His sheep. I guess I’m basically asking “WWJD” What would Jesus do?

Hi Ellen,

Just a little note-not necessarily on the thread. A very vibrant young priest was at a dinner party I was at. One of the children, about age 10, was in a discussion with a younger sibling and said, “Michael, what would Jesus do?” (WWJD). The priest spoke up and said to the little girl, “Teresa, what does God want?”(WDGW). He then went on to speak about how we should pattern after Jesus but remember that Jesus points to God and we need to discern what God wants more than what Jesus would do.
So with that in mind, I have to think that Jesus would help the immediate need, and then direct them in some way to the Father. This is much harder than I can imagine. For example: Jesus would feed a hungry immigrant. But then what? I mean what does God want? Does he want me to do more, find them jobs? A place to live? Turn them in if illegal? What does he want?
I’ll watch the posts and see if anyone can help us out here on this.
 
To all who are helping me with this situation I am deeply grateful. It is so difficult,sometimes, for us to discern what to do or what God would want us to do. I,too, ask myself “what would Jesus do”?I have discussed this situation with a priest whom I will respect anonyminity here. He told me to do no more for this person. Then, I left a message on one of the parishes’s answering machine asking that someone get back to me but perhaps maybe no one received it. It has been awhile now .
