How Illegal Immigration Harms Black Americans … - The Daily Signal
The Daily Signal › 2017/02/19

I’m all for immigration.

But, sneaking across the border without the US knowing is not immigration. At least not the type that the Irish did.
I’m also all for immigration. Legal immigration.

And I don’t see a problem with changing the system to make it easier for people who can contribute to the system can immigrate. We hear about employers who have to hire immigrants for jobs in STEM fields that they can’t find Americans who are qualified to do.

When people bring up the Irish, and the people who came over at the time of the Industrial Revolution, that’s a completely different matter. There were plenty of jobs out there; they weren’t taking jobs away from people, and they certainly weren’t taking public assistance
‘Anti-immigration’ is an extreme descriptor and left-wing buzz-word. Regulated immigration is legal, prudent and desirable. In one sense, the US is a lifeboat - it cannot hold the world. Access must be controlled or it will ultimately result in societal chaos. Look at the EU for a prime example of this.
Absolutely.

It’s one thing to be compassionate.

But there are limits. We can’t save the whole world.

The Bible tells us to help the poor. But I can’t give all my money away; I have to buy food for myself.

We can’t take in each and every person on the planet who wants to come here. We can’t afford it.

When we take in low-skill immigrants either they’ll take jobs away from the lower classes or depress wages for the lower classes (as another poster said) or go on public assistance. I wouldn’t mind so much their getting public assistance, but, as I posted last week, where 50 veterans died last year waiting for treatment, we should be taking care of Americans first, then see what we can do for the rest of the world.

Being in the EU we have seen first hand the result of unregulated immigration.

It has quite literally destroyed freedom and culture.

For the second time today I’m with the President and restricting it.

Getting rather tired of people playing the liberal left hyperbole. Why don’t you ask the People of Constantinople how opening the gates went.

Oh right. Silly me.

Immigration should remain a privilege not a right. To think otherwise is to be ignorant of the state of the world.

I am tired (no, fed up) with people who insist on confusing immigration with illegal-immigration.

The two are not the same.

There is scant little opposition to immigration in this country. Very little indeed.

The opposition we see is instead opposition to illegal immigration.

Let us be honest please. We cannot hope to have an honest conversation about this topic if people will not be honest about the vocabulary and the absolutely necessary distinction between what is legal immigration and what is illegal immigration.

Sorry, I smell BS.
The Church has no problem getting Visas for priests from Africa to work in the USA.
Maybe he hasn’t tried to become a citizen.

Yes, I believe there are special visas or immigration categories for religious workers.

Do you think the bishop of the Atlanta diocese has not already tried to get a VISA for Father Pineda? I would be very reluctant to assume incompetence on the part of bishop Gregory.
Maybe he hasn’t tried to become a citizen.
It is a wild guess, with the emphasis on “wild.” A deflection?

Let’s face it. Trump’s claim that deportations would focus on folks guilty of other crimes was just another Trump lie.

I gave my justification, which you could only speculate against.

What am I supposedly deflecting from?

You seem to acknowledge the Church generally has no problem getting visas for priests.

ALSO, HE’S NOT BEING TARGETED!!!

He’s a ‘dreamer’ and will get an extension when the program is renewed. My initial comment missed that he was a Dreamer, I expect the Church hasn’t bothered to try get him a regular visa.

I think we also need to stop lumping immigration in with illegal immigration. They are two totally different things.

Also, I don’t know a single Republican who wants to end all immigration. They simply want to end illegal immigration and close chain immigration “loop holes” (that were created out of American goodness) that are being abused.

Now: some people (Republican and non-Republican) want to limit immigration to only people who will be an asset to the nation. But that’s not everyone. And I could be wrong, but I don’t know any Catholic Republicans want to prevent all Latin Americans from entering the US legally.

You are right. I falsely implied in my posting that Father Pineda’s situation was evidence of indiscriminate deportations. It is not, until some action is taken against him. However we have seen other cases of indiscriminate proceedings in the news lately.

He will if McConnell lives up to his promise, and if a compromise in the Senate can be reached, and if the House goes along, and if Trump signs it.

The Germans have been told for a 2 generations that any form of national pride makes them Nazi and that they must prostate themselves on the altar of globalism to atone for the sins of their grandparents generation.

You don’t know the German people, do you? If you did, you wouldn’t spout such nonsense.

I don’t know every single German, but I know enough to form that opinion of how they view themselves, which is backed up by who they keep electing to their government.
