Immodest Dancing

I am not going to look at the video (because that would be full intention on my part to view immodest behavior) but this is clear cut.

Assuming the dance is sexual and immodest, and also between two individuals who are not married to one another, then:

It is mortal if there is no intention but full consent [e.g. At a party with husband or wife, but ends up dancing with another person and the dance becomes immodest (no intention of performing this dance with another person), realizes the dance has become immodest and sinful but continues to do dance (Full Consent)]

It is mortal if there is direct intention (full consent, and full intention, which would be going to a club knowing full well that one was going to immodestly dance with other people to whom he or she is not married, even though it is sinful).

It is venial if there exists some consent, but no intention (The individuals did not intend on performing these dances, but once they started dancing in an immodest manner they continued to do so for a little while, then stopped after realizing how wrong their actions truly were).

It is not sinful if there is no consent, and no intention(This is highly unlikely to happen in the case of a dance though, for obvious reasons).

Please Note*: The3 factors required for a sin to be mortal vs. venial. These are: 1. knowledge that the action is a sin, 2. full consent of will to engage in said action, and 3. grave matter. Intent is synonymous with the category of “full knowledge” (i.e. one knows that it is a sin but commits the action regardless).

Just a heads up (and this is out of charity that I am telling you this, and in no way intended to be judgemental), but it would be prudent not to link immodest or sexual videos to a question about whether or not something is a sin. That is called an occasion of sin and, if someone ends up being led to lustful thoughts or actions, you are culpable for their sins also. From now on, just use your own judgement when it comes to this kind of thing or ask a trusted priest. Another alternative would be to just briefly (and without much detail) what is happening in the dance so that we can get an idea without having to watch a sexual video.

Because unmarried individuals have absolutely ZERO right to intimate contact between one another, there is no reason to dance immodestly with a girl/woman. That is not to say that all dancing is sinful, but most types of dancing nowadays would lead people (especially men, who are weaker when it comes to resisting sexual temptation) to sin mortally.

Hakken (sometimes Hakkûh) is a form of rave dance originating from the Dutch Hardcore and Gabber scene. The term is mostly associated with the Gabber subculture. The origin of this dance style is probably a distortion of the dance that appeared in the video for the single Out of Space by The Prodigy. The dance is very similar to earlier European folk dance and is thought to be a sub form of zapateo with less airborne moves (unlike jumpstyle, for example, which features the “drunken sailor” style of jazz dance and high kicks).

In Australia, the dance it is mainly referred to as gabber (noun) or gabbering (verb), named after the music it is performed to. Despite the fact that it is called “Gabber”, it is usually performed to music of the Hardstyle genre by most people in Australia.

The dance consists of small steps that quickly follow to each other to the rhythm of the bass drum. The lower body (down from the pelvis) is the most important part, though it is not unusual to move the arms and torso too.

The dance is mainly performed to Hardcore techno and more specifically Gabber music. Because one is supposed to keep up to the beat of the song, the dance is usually done fairly quickly, since the BPM of this music style can easily reach 190 BPM.

Seems to be something quite difficult or extremely rapid, doubt it is lustfull being a fast derivative from folk dances it probably is not sin unless you dance naked :rolleyes: or you partake in the use of mind altering substances while enjoying this music. 😃
 
It looks like it would be a great work out at a Zumba class!
 
Here in the States, they sometimes call that style of dance “shuffling”. Nobody is actually dancing with anyone, male or female. I don’t see what would be immodest about it. There is no bumping and grinding or movements that would be deemed sexual in any way. If you really want some good examples of immodest dancing, go to a school dance for jr. high or high schools. Some of those dances are downright nasty :eek:

I don’t know what I expected, but whatever it was, it had nothing to do with what I saw :o I mean, “immodest” can mean many things. I’ve seen much, much worse 🤓 Jokes aside, your concern is very much appreciated. Follow your conscience on this matter: if it feels immodest to you, don’t do it 🙂 It’s not the most proper dancing style in the world 🤷

It doesn’t look like the dancing in the video is immodest, as they’re basically just jumping, crouching, kicking, and waving their arms. The dancers can’t even get close to each other, because if they did someone would probably get injured. But they were certainly dressed immodestly. Don’t dress like that.
 
Um… how would that be immodest? They’re not even touching each other.
 
At what point does dancing become immodest? For example, this kind of dancing, “contra dancing,” is popular around here.

Now, I have been invited a few times do these dances, and I have to confess that there have been many times that it has made me feel uncomfortable. I don’t know if that video conveys the full effect, but the dance still has you putting your hands all over all the other women in the room and embracing them. And this is just about the most mild sort of dancing I’ve ever been to. I don’t want to be overly scrupulous about this sort of thing and risk passing any judgment concerning any activity if others participate in it blamelessly, and this activity would not be abnormal according to the common culture, but at the same time, the common culture is a poor guide in moral matters, I don’t want to participate in this if it is indecent, especially when it potentially brings strong temptation to lustful thoughts.

What about waltzing or swing dancing? Does it really have to come to grinding genitals together for dancing to become a sinful act?
