To my fellow Catholics:
Most of the current hot button issues today revolve around human sexuality: abortion, embryonic stem cells, AIDs and other STDs, adultery and fornication. And Gay Marriage.
Starting in 1968, with the so-called Sexual Revolution, Hollywood began making movies that included one about swingers. In the 1970s, the TV show, All In The Family, featured a scene where the hippie son-in-law accuses his father-in-law of being afraid of sex. Then ‘adult bookstores’ appeared all over the country, followed by the National Organization for Women telling all women that men were the eternal enemy. Followed by No-Fault Divorce sweeping the country in the 1980s along with porn on cable. Followed by “Adult Language” and “Partial Nudity” on network TV and porn on the Internet.
We are now in the abyss. Let’s review:
Everything is OK. It’s all good. Right? Wrong? Who knows?
Illegal drugs - OK.
Prostitution - OK.
Strip clubs - OK.
Porn - OK.
Comedians that string profanity and anti-God comments together - OK
Christianity - NOT OK.
Too many are shacking up, having sex outside of marriage, cussing out their own parents and don’t know right from wrong. This has become a free-fall culture with one central theme:
Have sex with anyone or anything as often as possible. Problem prenancy - abort it. Problems in general - illegal drug it. Problem spouse - divorce him or her. If it feels good, do it. No matter what.
All of the following are 100% wrong. Always have been.
Sex outside of marriage by single people, either heterosexual or homosexual - fornication.
Sex with prostitutes.
Sex between a married person and someone other than their spouse - adultery.
I encourage all Catholics to avoid vagueness. This did not happen overnight. The campaign to destroy the family through divorce has been going on for a while. To destroy trust between men and women and husbands and wives. And to disrespect everyone on the level of human sexual conduct. Sex is for marriage. Period.
And talking about sex is for appropriate settings and circumstances. It is not, and never should be, a joke - a series of explicit sex jokes, that cheapen the sanctity of a loving, committed relationship.
The dignity of the human person is the goal. The respect of the privacy of the human person. And to hold in high regard the true love that occurs between a man and a woman and their children.
Only then will we begin to return to commitment and right ordered relationships between men and women, and a healthier and more moral society as a result.
God bless,
Ed
