Hello,

I’ve committed a mortal sin and I do not believe I have perfect contrition. One of my most notable feeling is that I do not want to go to hell. However, I have firm resolution to go to confession when it becomes available. I’m really afraid 😦

Imperfect contrition is sufficient. I quote Fr. Mike Schmitz who once said that even if just a really small part of you wants to be reconciled to God and forgiven → then that´s sufficient contrition.

Go to Confession and let Christ heal you and forgive you. He truly desires to heal you and He delights in you and your desire to repent. Confession is so freeing and beautiful.

You have no need to be afraid of confession. The priest is there to help you, guide you and to give you the mercy of Christ. He will not judge you. He is just happy that you desire to grow closer in your relationship to God and that you seek to be forgiven of your sins. Remember that everybody has their struggles and that the priest himselves is a sinner. And he has heard it all before.

I suggest that you watch this video by Fr. Mike Schmitz which is about the power of confession. It´s truly beautiful and inspirational! (Confession is a Place of Victory - YouTube). There´s also some more content about confession at Ascension Presents on YouTube and Catholic Answers.

Prayers to you. God bless.

Just a note to the OP that it is called “mortal” sin, not “moral” sin.
Call your parish and ask to make an appointment with the priest for confession as soon as you can.
