I was on the way to school this morning when someone commented the Stephen Jobs (Chairman of Apple) was sick and might have cancer again. I made a comment saying that if he died, the company would be lacking innovation like it was before when he was ‘kicked out from his position.’ (purely opinion, by the way) I’m not the biggest fan of Jobs, and commented that it would be good for Microsoft. I am absolutely certain about this part.

Does this mean that I was willing for him to die? I don’t think that I hate him, but it’s worrying me. I would never intentionally seriously harm him.

But I don’t think I hoped he would die. And frankly, I can’t remember and am resorting to making up scenarios -each are different every time. Am I still responsible? This has been on my mind all day, and I have been praying for an answer. My head says it wasn’t a mortal sin. So many things are saying it’s not a mortal sin, but one thing is convincing me otherwise: the possibility of not going to Heaven. I know we can never tell, especially if you’re trying to do with a pesky problem called scrupulosity (I’m getting better though, and I can state that for sure  ). I prayed a rosary today, too. I asked for inner peace and an answer to this question -my gut said it wasn’t a mortal sin, either.

This will hopefully be my last of the two “Did I commit an act of hatred” posts 😊
One question that never got answered from my last one though was if it was a sin to ‘hate’ an inanimate/virtual object with no meaning whatsoever.

It sounds like you have scrupulosity issues and need the assistance of a competent priest familiar with this issue.

You have let your imagination run amok. No, you did not sin.

God bless you and guide you in your efforts to overcome scrupulousity. You have answered your own question. Making an offhand negative comment about someone in the public eye does not equate to sin, and if such a comment was an offense to whoever heard it, you have said sorry and prayed for forgiveness.
