importance of Apostolic Tradition

i’m fairly new to this forum and been lurking on here for a couple of months reading responses to threads. i’m relatively young, i’ve had my first three sacraments, and at one point in my life question the existance of God (weather by pride of ignorance). It was by the love and grace of God working through my alcoholic mother (who is a devout catholic) that brought me back to faith. fast foward 8 years later…my mom still an alcoholic, i’m in RCIA and planning to marry in the RCC, and heard plenty of protestant pastors during my search.

During my search while listening to protestant pastors preach, talking to protestant Christians that were “on fire”, and now here reading responses on CAF, i get the impression that Apostolic Tradition holds no value what so ever to their faith. All they need in the 21st century necessary for their salvation is their belief in/of the stories in the bible and nothing else. What links their belief to the actual events that happened 2000 years ago? How can they be so sure that a first century jew is understood by a 21st century american, european,…etc.ctc. Apostolic Tradition is what makes the Bible real. without Apostolic Tradition the stories in the bible that happened 2000 years ago becomes exactly what they are…just stories.

Without Apostolic Tradition, everything just devolves into individual interpretation, which is chaos & Protestantism in a nutshell.

Many Protestants are willing to admit the role tradition (no extant sources) played prior to the NT writings yet ignore the large quantity of writings relating to tradition and the role it played after the NT writings. Pelikan discusses this anomaly. JonNC is right tradition is viewed very differently by mainstream Protestants vs fundamentalist who r “on fire”.
