Hi guys thanks so much for your kind advice. Your suggestions actually helped me to remember that in a parish close to me there is confession available behind the screen (I had totally forgotten about that). So I’m going there tonight and will be so glad to return to a state of grace! Pray for me 🙂 And thanks again.
I am glad you were able to find a confessor that worked well for you from all your perspectives. You are always free to approach any confessor, even when you have a regular confessor, if you deem it of spiritual advantage in a given circumstance.

I will pray for you. God bless you!

Just to go the priest that you feel most comfortable with. Don’t feel embarrassed, any priest has heard it all before. When I go to confession and am feeling a little embarrassed, I just go behind the screen, bow my head and close my eyes. I put myself in the mind set that God is directly behind the screen and He already knows my sins. I usually break down and start to cry because I am ashamed of my sins and because I love God so much.

I am usually nervous before confession but afterwards…man, oh man, I feel so good. Reconciliation is one of the greatest gifts from God.

Hi everyone,
I have a fairly large confession to make consisting of some serious sins. I desperately want to make my confession so that I can regain the state of grace and receive the Eucharist etc.
I usually go to a regular confessor once a week but I haven’t been with him in a while.
At this point I am familiar with all my local priests and most priests within driving distance.
This presents me with a problem as I really don’t want to go to a Priest I know (either my usual confessor or another priest I know) due to my embarrassment with some of my sins. Maybe that is the wrong attitute, but it’s how I feel anyway.

So what should I do?? Should I bite the bullet and just go to my regular confessor or should I seek out a confessor I don’t know in a different parish?

Suggestions welcomed!
Honestly, I would just suck it up and go, as you admit, you’re not in the state of grace. If you die (which could honestly happen at any moment), you could expect to go to Hell for eternity.

I thought this thread was about confession advice, not about why Catholics believe in the need to confess their sins to a priest.
Tslk about derailing a thread.

It seemed appropriate to me. I was giving confession advice. Confess your sins to God, and don’t worry about confessing to certain men.
Your advice was contrary to a precept of the OP’s faith, which is that we must prepare for the Eucharist by means of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It’s not optional or up for discussion.
