Important Confession Question

Today, I went to Confession sure that a particular sin I had was Mortal (Since it was done out of Lust), but when I went to confession, I suddenly had the thought “There’s no way this is a sin whatsoever”, so I didn’t confess it. Well, right when I was to say my Act of Contrition, I had a feeling of “Wait, yes it is!”, but I didn’t want to say “Hey wait!” because I had interrupted him before to confess some forgotten sins and he was very annoyed by it, so I simply said the Act of Contrition, feeling terribly guilty. Did I commit a sacrilege (AKA: The worst sin possible to make), or was it so far into it (Plus adding the fact I was timid to confess it out of fear of annoying the Priest) that it was fine?

If you want to know what the sin is, it is very hard for me to say it, but I’ll just keep reminding myself I won’t meet anyone here ever. Basically, about six months ago, I was controlled by Lust, and for some reason in the shower I urinated on myself out of Lust. Boy that was difficult to type… Was this any sort of sin?

No you didn’t commit sacrilege, in my opinion, but you should still confess this sin particularly if you know it is mortal and didn’t confess it because you were to timid. I don’t know why the priest would get annoyed, maybe he had a bad day or something, but you should still confess it anyway.

Thank GOD somebody finally answered! I have been going back and forth on this for HOURS. Then the Lord said “You have suffered enough”, and he sent you.

Thank you for the reply though. I have asked several Priests on the internet if it is a sin (And if what I did was a Mortal sin), so we’ll see if you’re right. Trust me, I really want you to be.

No problem. Even if I end up being wrong then just confess that too and as long as you are contrite then God will accept your apology. That is the beauty of the sacrament of Reconilliation. We offend God over and over again and yet if we are truly sorry, he accepts our apology.

I don’ think I am wrong though. How can it be sacrilege when you are not profaning anything. At first you weren’t sure, then you said, “yeah okay this is a sin done out of lust” but decided not to confess it because you were too shy. You didn’t lie to the priest (which would be sacrilege because then you would be lying to the persona Christi) so it wasn’t a sin. It was leaving something out that you need to be forgiven for. You just probably aren’t forgiven for that sin yet because in the end you felt that is was a sin and refused to confess it. Confess it as soon as possible, accept your penance and you will be relieved.

If this is bothering you so much then I would suggest making an appointment with a priest, (doesn’t have to be your Parish priest so you won’t be so embarrassed) to confess this sin ASAP so you can move on.

It doesn’t become a sacrilege because you lied. It becomes a sacrilege if you intentionally don’t confess a Mortal Sin.

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood. When I read the you had a feeling that, “yes this is still a sin,” you were still unsure if what you did constituted as a mortal sin. If you were sure that it was a mortal sin then intentional untruth regarding grave matter does invalidate the absolution and is itself a mortal sin (both of lying and sacrilege). Intentionally withholding mortal sins in confession, except in a few lawful cases, is invalidating and itself a mortal sin of sacrilege.

What are ‘doubtful sins’ and what are the certain lawful situations in which one would withhold confessing mortal sins?

Doubtful sins are actions or inactions in which a penitent is uncertain whether he has actually committed a sin.

Some actions may be objectively a sin, but subjectively not. (e.g. It is a serious sin to eat meat on a Friday in Lent, and one inadvertently did so).

Some actions may not be objectively sinful, but subjectively so (e.g. You thought it was a sin to buy a lottery ticket, and did so anyway).

Some actions may have been mortally or venially sinful in the past (under different disciplinary laws), but no longer certainly so.

So the question becomes whether you are certain about it being a mortal sin at the time of your confession and having knowledge about it. If yes to both then yes it is sacrilege and that will need to be confessed as well. If you are unsure then maybe you committed a doubtful sin. Confess both anyway and you will be covered plus the priest giving absolution will be able to tell you if what you did constituted as a mortal sin.

Well, in the middle of the Confession when I was confessing my sins, I thought “What am I thinking? This isn’t even a sin.”, but right when I was supposed to say my Act of Contrition I thought “Wait, yes it is!”, but I didn’t want to say I had one more sin because I was afraid to do so. Does that play a role in anything? I’m not sure if it’s a sin or not. [edited]
