Important Dates of catholics

Hi, i am currently doing a thorough research on this religion and i would like to know what are the main impt dates of catholics and how it might affect a catholic man/women in business context

Important dates in the Catholic Church would be:

1. every Sunday, because we are obligated to attend Mass every Sunday.
2. Holy Days of Obligation - These may vary by country. In the United States there are 6 Holy Days:
   January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God;
   Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter, the solemnity of the Ascension;
   August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary;
   November 1, the solemnity of All Saints;
   December 8, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception;
   December 25, the solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
   On a Holy Day, we are obligated to attend Mass. What we are doing is celebrating an important person or event in the life of the Church.
3. Also important is the season of Advent. This is not a specific date, but a period of time…the 4 weeks before Christmas. This is a time of spiritual preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth and for His second coming.
4. Christmas Day - the celebration of Christ’s birth
5. The season of Lent. This is a solemn 40-day period of spiritual preparation for Easter.
6. Easter - this is the holiest day of the year for Catholics because this is the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
7. Pentecost - the 50th day after Easter. This is a celebration of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, which empowered them to carry out what Christ commanded them to do: teach and baptize. Catholics consider this day to be the “birthday” of the Church.

There are other celebrations during the Church year, but these dates are the most significant.

As to how it might affect a man or woman in a business context, I would say it’s possible that a conflict may arise when, for instance, it’s a Holy Day of Obligation and the evening Mass is the same time as an important business meeting. However there are usually several Mass times offered, so this kind of conflict shouldn’t be too difficult to resolve.

Or maybe during Lent when our spiritual prepartion requires us to fast or abstain, the business person must attend a business luncheon that makes it difficult to follow the fast or abstention. But again, there are ways to resolve this conflict.

Actually, I don’t know that these types of conflicts happen that often. Maybe others will have some thoughts on this.

In a business context? Here in Catholic south Louisiana it would be:

January 6th - Epiphany or Twelfth Night - the opening of the Mardi Gras season. This has a significant impact on business particularly in the New Orleans area.

Ash Wednesday (a moveable feast). The end of the Mardi Gras season and the beginning of Lent. Restaurant menus change with far more emphasis on seafood even during the week.

Good Friday (a moveable feast). This is an official State of Louisiana holiday and many, many businesses also close.

Easter Sunday (a moveable feast). Traditional opening of crawfish season.

All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day (Nov. 1 and 2nd). They have a heavy impact on the florist business since we traditionally clean our graves and put out flowers in honor of our deceased relatives.

Christmas Eve (December 24). There are special menus at most New Orleans restaurants during this time. Christmas celebrations across south and north Louisiana. The Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge is lighted by huge bonfires to guide Papa Noel.

Feast days have a huge economic impact here because they affect tourism which is a major industry here.
