I find Catholics don’t need printed texts because they know their parts off by heart.
As a recent convert of two years, I needed printed texts. That’s one thing I couldn’t understand - I sought out Catholicism, walked into Mass, and had no idea what or when to pray. I purchased my own “Order of Mass” cards and stumbled on the missalettes. It would be good if churches had something in the pews for newbies. It took me well over a year and still stumble with the prayer before the Eucharist (accept the sacrifice…)

Not everyone knows it by heart. Not everyone has great hearing and likes to follow along. Some people are less distracted by others if they read along.

I recommend iBreviary, as well.

Free, and if you ever make a donation it supports Catholics in the Holy Land.

In addition to all the Mass readings and prayers it has the Divine Office, and every sort of prayer you want: Rosary, chaplets, litanies, stations, devotions, etc.

God bless you for loving the Eucharist,
Deacon Christopher

Sorry but do to husband being hurt at work I can’t afford a lot so I thought of an app

Reading one’s electronic missal is no more noticeable than looking at a book. In fact, it could be less noticeable because of the size phone vs missalette.

I have to second using iBreviary. I have never used it for the mass, but use it all the time when I do not have my Divine Office book with me. It has lots of nice features and with it being free, you can’t beat it.

Yes, I don’t understand why RCIA doesn’t do more to prepare their students for what to do once they are no longer students but are expected to jump into the Mass and understand everything.

It is time for the sponsors to help those people understand what Mass is all about and what to do if those who teach RCIA haven’t done that already.

Those being received should know what to do during Mass by this time if they are being received into the Catholic Church during Easter.

Various RCIA programs do various things.

At our parish, one of the early Classes (in fact, it is sessions 2 & 3 IIRC) are on the Mass and how to use the Missal. We give each person a copy of a Missal to take home.

I got a book that I really recommend for new Catholics. It’s by Michael Dubruiel and is called, The How-To book Of the Mass. “Step-by-step guidelines, explains the Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist, walks you through the Mass, Includes helpful hints and insights from tradition.” Takes you from beginning to end in a nice, conversational style of writing.

My teachers were very nice but focused on reading and rereading the daily selections and see what word, if any, says something to you. With this book, you get the “nuts and bolts” of the Mass.

I’ll remember that book suggestion for those new to the Catholic Church. I am one of those who had studied my way into the Church and RCIA was just a repeat of what I already knew and believed. Second year when we went more deeply into the faith was great.

When you sit down in the pew, the Missal your parish uses will be in front of you. Open it up and you’ll see the title. 😀 Our parish uses the Large Print edition of OCP’s “Today’s Missal” which has the Readings and at the bottom of the page, the next page to turn to.

Sometimes it can be a little confusing. But with practice, you learn to master the missal. Except when there are options for the priest to take or special holidays to celebrate the feast of a certain saint.

Okay, thank you… I am going tomorrow to a Catholic store and getting a Sunday one…
