The first thing that comes to mind is that there are no impossible requests. There is only our unwillingness to ask, which is often rooted in our pride and sloth. In prayer we submit ourselves to God’s holy will. He wants us involved, through prayer, in His actions in our lives. Oftentimes we just leave things up to God and don’t pray - that’s lazy and prideful - using the premise that you proposed, that God’s will will triumph in the end and I’ve got nothing to do with it. Or worse, that nothing really depends on God, by not praying we can be ignoring His action in our lives.
Prayer changes us, it prepares us for accepting an outcome we might not otherwise be deposed to deal with. That job or relationship may never come about because of our lack of prayer and preparation for it. If we don’t take the step of acting in faith and praying, we may never be ready for what God has in store for us, would have had in store for us had we only prayed.
Our next breath depends on God. Be thankful in prayer for your last breath and pray that he gives you another one. Be thankful for all the relationships you’ve had up until now, romantic or otherwise, and pray that God brings you the person meant for you … while praying that He make you the person you need to be for that person, as well.
Be at peace.
