Wow. Some one really is out to get me. I just typed this all and when I hit submit it got deleted: I have a mental illness, we don’t know what it is yet but it is definetly related to stress. I can barely make it out of the house with out breaking into a cold sweat, shaking, and just generally freaking out. I can feel my mind going and this is very serious. Like I said my problem is related to stress. I am going through puberty and it is very hard to resist certain, temptations, I get and the more stressed I get the more my problem gets worse and dealing with these temptations is the main source of the stress.
My question is, if I gave into these temptations would it be as bad as if I didn’t have this problem. The catechism clearly said it wouldn’t, but people said it would still be “morally wrong”. I don’t think I could find a link because I can only go for so long with out getting plagued with these very disturbing thoughts and images I get. I am a good kid, I don’t swear, I go to mass every sunday, and I recieve communion weekly. I don’t want to hurt God, Jesus, or Mary, or anything like that, it’s just my problen is going to take my life away from me. I’m only 14 and I’m already loosing control! The stress is killing me. I want to be a good catholic. That is, a good “sane, non-spending my whole life in a padded cell” catholic. Please, tell me it would only be venial if I gave into my temptations.

Go to a priest and a psychiatrist. Both are necessary. Test them for authenticity. Then trust them. I will not answer whether it would be venial or mortal. My limited knowledge would say it isn’t based on the circumstances. Regardless, get help, don’t be ashamed, and above all trust Jesus and Mary. They are your guides. They will not let you down.:blessyou:

Just do your best to resist the temptation don’t worry about the result.
if you’re insane, then you have committed no mortal sin.

take a mmpi test and see what the problem is.

It deleted my post again I think. I pretty much just spilled my guts out gave a quote of the catechism. Here is the quote: **“affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety, or other psychological or social factors that lessen or even extenuate moral culpability” (CCC #2352)**That seems like me. Now do u think it’d be a venial sin? I do. Please confirm that it would be.

you quoted CCC 2352 which deals with masturbation. is that what cause you to depress or you just want to quote that since sentence without context?

if the problem is masturbation, I think since you’re trying to stop that, you’re not committing it with full consent, the sin should be venial.

Don’t do it, bud…no excuses. Doing the deed will not solve your problem…sounds like you have social anxiety disorder. Remember that Jesus is watching you…don’t give into the temptation. I was like you, and learned that a ‘quick fix’ does not help anything…you think it does, but it does nothing! God is putting you to the test! You can be happy for a few moments and miserable for eternity, or deal with a little hardship and be happy for eternity. Your decision.

You need to see a Dr., but I guarantee that he (if he is catholic) will tell you to sin as a fix for your problem…it won’t fix it, trust me!

Chicken Man:
Um. I don’t understand you.
full quote of ccc 2352
**2352 **By *masturbation *is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."137 “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."138 To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.
Chickman, will you please tell us what the temptation is? I don’t think lust, masturbation, porn, fornification, prostitution and rape will make you break into a cold sweat and shaking when you go out.

Ok. Maybe I wasn’t clear about what happens cause every body seems to have all these questions that I thought I already said. It all kind of intertwines in a wierd way. Please forgive me if I sound angry. Before you judge me please put yourself in my situation:

You are afraid of your own thoughts. You don’t know for sure if any of this is happening. You don’t know anything for sure. If anything happened yesterday. If you are in your house. It’s very disturbing.

The only time I can find a little bit of peace is when I am completely distracted, by televisin or something. I can’t concentrate for school work or anything. I have to leave school frenquently because I freak out. It is all around me and I can’t get rid of it.

If this is a test, why me, have you gone through anything this hard? I’m only 14 why test me so early. Am I gonna die when I’m like 20? I doubt you can grasp how difficult this is, but it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done and probably the hardest thing I’ll ever do.

We know that it comes from stress. My main source of stress is dealing with the fact that it is a mortal sin to masturbate and I can’t do it. I am resisting but at the cost of my sanity. I don’t understand why I should keep struggling like this when that quote says it would not be as bad. I could go to confession anyways. I’m surprised I’ve lasted this long.
I want some positive word. Somebody say, “It would only be venial.” or “You need your sanity to worship god and to do his will” But nobody will. Nobody cares about my sanity. I do. It’s basically loosing your life, it’s just like dieing, you can’t do anything, except drool, and mutter things. People say “You will go through stress later on in life you know” But that’s like saying “There will be terrorist attacks in the future so why prevent this one?” Do you see what I am saying. Nobody does. I need someone to understand.
But then again is this actually happening. I do not know. Please.

Nobody can tell go ahead and masturbate because we would leading you to sin. What your experiencing is a mental health problem and probably a spirtual one as well. No one went crazy from not maturbating and no one recovers from psychological problems by masturbating

You need to see a doctor and your priest as well a.s.a.p. Think of it this way if an an alcoholic got on the forum describing all his withdrawl symptoms and asked if it would be ok to have a drink because other wise he feel’s like he would go crazy do you think it would be ok to say yes go have the drink. Ofcourse not because it won’t solve anything and in the long run only make things worse.

I commend you for perservering in this area despite all your anxieties. If you fall yes go to confession, confession is a source of grace. But these anxieties are not normal and you must seek out help. Talk to your parents, or a school counselor. And also make an appointment with your priest.
Many people suffer from pyschological issues at one time or another in their lives. Much more than you would guess. You don’t need to keep suffering this way, there are things that can help you. I will keep you in my prayers.

Sounds to me like you have anxiety. Read a good book on the topic. I recommend:

amos.shop.com/amos/cc/main/ccn_search/st/%22%2Bbook%20%2B%22anxiety%20disease%22%22/sy/productsx/ccsyn/260/prd/17503217/ccsid/326062798-17682/adtg/02120541

You have to go through it. In other words, you need to surround yourself with positive influences, get plenty of exercise, eat healthy and get plenty of sleep. Guard your body and soul by dong good things and you won’t have time to focus on bad things. It will take a while but over time it will gradually dissipate.

There are prayers on here that will help you if your faithfull to them, not enough to say them once and then forget about them.

You should talk face to face with a priest about this, if your not able too, say the prayers anyway, a spiritual battle, needs spiritual weapons.
Oh and I do recommend the Rosary as well.

I agree with ppcpilot. Sounds like anxiety disorder (panic attack).
Resist temptation. When it hits you, substitute the urge with prayer. Meditate on scripture. Say the rosary. Sit quietly and talk to God in your own words. God will listen! He always does.
Remember, satan is the prince of this world and resisting his attacks is not easy to do without much prayer. God Bless you.

I don’t understand. Are you asking where you can get a rosary?

Well first off whoever said the thing about the drunk guy and the taking another drink and it would be bad, I am not addicted to masturbation like a drunk is to alcohol. Nobody has gone crazy from not masturbating but they have from too much stress. In fact, there is a disease where a bodily function will shut down from too much stress, blindness, lameness, deafness, ect. I went and saw a doctor and he said, “Nobody is perfect and you shouldn’t try to be, you will go crazy.” I went to another forum website and everybody there told me just to do it so I can get past this part in my life. All i can think about now is this people ask me why I’m being so quite and it’s because I’m thinking about if giving in would be bad, and if god would forgive me if I did it. You think it’s hard resisting temptation when you are healthy in the head? Try it when you have my mental illness that I described above. I can’t get why, even with that quote I put in that said something to the effect of, “If you are not well in the head it would not be as bad if you masturbated. Can any 1 clear that up with me? Some people give in to this temptation when they are perfectly normal but I still haven’t with all my problems. And people are going to say, “You held out this long why can’t you keep doing it.” But that’s like saying Mr. Lance Armstrong you have already finished this 50 mile or so race do you think you can do another ( lets see 14 x 6 is 84) could you do another 300 miles?” You guys seem to like metaphors so I used one. God will forgives everybody right? I believe I am a part of everybody. I can’t hold out any longer. I am going to go to hell?

Chicken Man:
I can’t hold out any longer. I am going to go to hell?
If you mess up, you go to confession. God will forgive those who ask for forgiveness.

Have you talked to your priest about these issues? He can give you spiritual direction.

What is causing all this stress you are talking about?

When I was 13 my sister died. I stood their holding her hand when she took her last breath. My mom lost her mind. She was nasty as hell after that. She told me she wished I had died instead of my sister. I spent most of my teen years and into my early 20’s having panic attacks about dying. As a teenager I drank - was it a sin - yes. Was I under alot of stress -yes. I had premarital sex - was it a sin -yes. Was I looking for comfort from my situation -yes. One does not excuse the other.

You are not the only teenager that has ever gone through hell. You fall, you ask for God’s forgiveness and start again - with the intention not to fall again. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. But you have to try. You say your not addicted. fine. Getting drunk is also a sin. Not everyone who get’s drunk is an alcoholic. No everyone who smokes a joint is a drug addict. It’s still wrong.

You don’t have to live in fear of hell. We have the wonderful grace of confession. Frequent confession gives you the grace to become stronger against your temptations. Talk to your priest, he can guide you. I will keep you in my prayers.

I think you have a couple of issues here. The first is social anxiety disorder, which is causing panic attacks and agoraphobia. Quite common at your age, and may be triggered by hormones. You really should talk to your parents about this and see your family doctor. It’s probably not necessary to see a psychiatrist… leave that up to your regular doctor to decide. There are treatments for this, both with therapy and drugs, and for most patients, relief comes quickly. It seems to me that you have been “self-medicating” with masturbation, or at least, that you feel this will give you some relief. Unfortunately, even if it did, you would become increasingly dependent on it until it would control your life… your anxiety would increase because you would always be looking for an opportunity to engage in this activity. It is not a coincidence that it is sinful. It is sinful because it is really not good for you. So deal with your anxiety as a medical condition. You’re not going insane. You’re going where all sorts of people with unbalanced hormones have gone before you. If your mother’s my age, she’ll know what I mean! The transition through puberty is tougher for some kids than for others, but with a little of the right kind of help, you’ll be just fine.
Praying for you,
olegraymere

Oh for goodness sake, you are behaving like the ultimate drama queen! I’ve read all your postings and you seem to want to be told “sure, go ahead…God’ll be cool with that”. You obviously know better and no one here’s going to tell you what you want to hear. Do yourself a favor and get some help. Quit whining about “stress”, whining does you no good and it’s annoying. You’re looking for a convenient psychobabble excuse to do something you shouldn’t. Go see a therapist if this is so miserable for you.
