Impossibly Hard Situation of Doom

Don’t tell yourself it’s impossible. You know the difference between the Good Murderer (the first Catholic Saint) and the Evil Murderer? The Good one didn’t think salvation was impossible and he asked Jesus not even to save him but to remember him. Et voila, guess who entered the paradise with Jesus that very day. The other thought it was impossible and he gave up trying.

It is possible. I am 21 and unmarried. I’ve done lots of bad stuff, including stuff that falls under the Sixth, but with God’s grace I’ve been able to stay away from masturbation (and without having real intercourse with real people instead). It is possible. It seems your temptation was stronger than what I had, but I still prove it’s possible to live without masturbation and without wanting to do that, either.

Pray a lot, take cold showers, put your hands on the cover and not under it, don’t sleep on your stomach, delete all porn from your hard drive and preferably all women photos other than your friends and relatives in modest outfits, explain to yourself why masturbation is bad and why you don’t want to do it. Because you don’t. Right? You don’t want masturbation to be allowed to you, you want to stay away from masturbating. Right?

Go to a doctor and a priest. Or a doctor who is a priest. I’m sure they could find you one. Go to a therapist, but preferably a church one, not a healthcare one. If it goes to such an extreme that you really think there’s no way you can resist, you can always ask your father to go the toilet with you, someone from family to watch over you till you fall asleep and check in in the morning. Find a Saint, pray a lot. There’s a lot of saints for chastity and I’m sure someone could give a hint. Probably St. Joseph is the most matching one for a Christian guy who wants to have a normal Christian family without fornication, adultery, contraception and other bad stuff. St. Judah, the Lord’s Brother (cousin), is the Saint for hopeless cases. But there are more. You don’t have to pick just one, either. You can ask someone else to pray for you, as well. You can ask the priest to say mass for you, begging God for help in overcoming your temptation. You can start a copybook and note down every single temptation you resisted, along with dates. If the amount of resisted temptations rises and the amount of un-resisted ones drops, you’re making progress. Save the book, you can offer it to God or a Saint after you’re rid of your problem. Or to your future wife (it’s not my idea - someone on a chastity site came up with it).
